Florida State University criminology professor Eric Stewart was a guru of the claim that “systemic racism” infests America’s police and American society.
Now he’s out of a job on account of “extreme negligence” in his research.
The academic was fired after almost 20 years of his data — including figures used in an explosive study, which claimed the legacy of lynchings made whites perceive blacks as criminals, and that the problem was worse among conservatives — were found to be in question.
College authorities said he was being fired for “incompetence” and “false results.”
Among the studies he has had to retract were claims that whites wanted longer sentences for blacks and Latinos.
But he’s successful. The only media noting his firing and retractions are the more conservative media, while his erroneous studies will live forever and be continue to be quoted and cited by the MSM. Retracted or not, it’s entered into their fact book as truth.
Google Scholar says that his work as been cited about 8600 times.

Peer review is absolutely useless. Pal review is more like it. Real science has been horribly damaged by those who have allowed politics to stick its nose into science.

1. I have never said any paper should be automatically trusted because it’s been peer reviewed. You’re making it up wholesale. I will say peer review does increase credibility, but no one paper should be believed without reservation. This is why repeated studies are essential in science.

Except it’s based on a misconception on how the entire system works. Peer reviewers don’t decide if a paper is accepted or rejected. Editors do.
Peer review is extraordinarily valuable.
It’s mostly scientists advising other scientists how a paper can be improved; where the gaps in logic are, how it can be better organized, what citations should be added, how the figures might be better designed, where the errors are, and so on. Sometimes they bring to the authors’ attention work that seems particularly pertinent.
They also advise the editor if the paper is worthy of publishing, and that is where people suspect that reviewers are getting all “political”. But I’ve rarely seen that happen. Editors are not obliged to act on a rejection recommendation, and they often don’t, particilalry if they think a reviewer has an axe to grind. At any rate, the decision to accept or reject always rests with the editors, and that won’t change by getting rid of peer review.
