Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I am in favour of MAID as an option for the terminally ill so long as safeguards are in place so that it is used only when justifiable. Demanding that people eke out a hopeless existence of pain and sickness with no plausible possibility of recovery, simply because we can keep them alive a little longer, is not humane.
Those who abuse it, however, are jeopardizing the entire program, so that the terminally ill might end up being refused the option. That is unforgivable.
The problem is. (IT) has been abused in other countries.
Damn shame
First it’s voluntary and then it’s mandatory.
If a government program exists, it will INEVITABLTY be abused by bad actors as well as callous officialdom. All conservatives know this.
In those antediluvian olden days, before assisted suicide became a virtual left-wing sacrament* (the religious allusion is intentional), a doctor would “accidentally” leave the full bottle of sleeping bills at a terminally ill patient’s bedside or would “miscalculate” the dose of opiates needed to dull a terminally ill person’s pain and – per Jonathan Rauch’s idea of Hidden Law – the patient and/or family knew what was happening and its was not discussed and the world went on. Then assisted suicide became this HUGE progressive/left wing crusade (again the religious allusion is intentional – remember Sue Rodriguez and her good pal Svend?) and then the Lawyer Class, a group inextricably intertwined with the Liberal Party, got hold of it and we had to officialize this sort of thing (I’m not sure why) and we get what we have today.

A note on Rauch’s Hidden Law doctrine. An insightful piece from 2001 that no one 20 years hence seems to want to follow

“I am in favour of MAID as an option for the terminally ill so long as safeguards are in place so that it is used only when justifiable.”
I’ve seen you play this tune before. Just remember what I told you last time, and add the fact that this is a corrupt program being run by a corrupt bureaucracy for the benefit OF THE BUREAUCRACY, not the patients.
The mere existence of the program indicates the extreme moral degeneracy of the governing faction. The progression of events since its inception was predicted at the outset, they are right on the glidepath we expected.
“Demanding that people eke out a hopeless existence of pain and sickness with no plausible possibility of recovery, simply because we can keep them alive a little longer, is not humane.”
We have a good solution to the problem already, called a DNR “Do Not Resuscitate” order. This is for people who don’t want to suffer through the medical treatments. Letting people die of their ailments by specific request is morally defensible.
Murder is not.
The Phantom, you have argued the best reason for why MAID is so morally reprehensible …”We have a good solution to the problem already, called a DNR “Do Not Resuscitate” order. This is for people who don’t want to suffer through the medical treatments. Letting people die of their ailments by specific request is morally defensible.
Murder is not.”
Health care has really degenerated into death care in Canada.
No surprise. In our corrupt health bureaucracy it’s far easier to kill people than successfully treat them.
“Do not resuscitate” is not an adequate replacement for MAID. Cancer and other ailments can take months to kill someone. Neuro disorders can take years. You would force these people to continually deteriorate as they suffer constant pain.
When are you going to figure out that ethics are for accountable people without big pensions ?
Yeah if someone who is terminally ill wants to go so be it.
But why should someone 57 in emerg be asked by the doctor if they want resuscitated, and when the patient sits up and looks them in the eye puzzled says , YEAH of course !…… the young doc dejectedly replies I have to ask 16 years old that question.
Happened to me 4 months ago.
Seemed awful strange and sad to me and to be honest very modern liberal, and “progressive”.
Ethics are dead , and money talks….. until people have the guts to really wake up.
It’s the new “safe and effective.” 100% cure rate. Also it will be handy for dealing with anyone who disagrees with you “programs”, is costing the system to much money or has valuable organs to be harvested. Apparently, there is already a program in place to help you donate for the latter.. Finally, we are a world leader!!

it’s an excellent way for doctors to bury their mistakes.
Are the organs being used for Canadians who need them or sold on the open market worldwide?
1939 the Nazis had fun with it and didn’t have any paperwork.
Sometimes my grandchildren will have problems and one of them confided in me that she wanted to commit suicide, I told her to listen carefully, we’ll have a verbal contract. I will kill you and then I PROMISE I’ll kill myself. SHE laughed and said thanks I don’t feel like going that route anymore.
1939 the Nazis had fun with it and didn’t have any paperwork.
Apparently not. They had extremely accurate records. Read Edwin Black’s IBM and the Holocaust. They knew everything about everyone and where they were sent and disposed of.
How about this? The lib/dip coalition can afford to keep killers alive at what cost, yet can’t afford hospital care to those in need.
Thread winner!
Canadiens donated more organ transplants from MAID patients among the four countries studied that offer this practice.
Fantastic…
I can now get the penis that I’ve always deserved.
Make sure you don’t order the Chinese model.
Wrong Fricking Ordered Organ.
Should have used UPS.
In Soviet Kanada, suicide hotline calls you.
I am totally in favour of MAID for anyone to my political left.
I understand the arguments. My problem is having the government health care system administer it. When I was young I had a brain injury, my mother was told I would never recover and would be a “vegetable “ . My parents made the decision to take me home and deal with it there. It took several years but I healed up and got on with life. I’ve learned to never trust a government paid doctor with my life.
Since human euthanasia is now legal, why are there still suicide hotlines?
And when do the various medical and veterinary colleges and related associations amalgamate, since MDs are now becoming indistinguishable from DVMs?
There you go. A couple of cost-saving measures right there!
Watch for the MAID in Canada logo! Remember to Die Canadian!
The only thing in Canada that should suffer assisted suicide is the CBC.
?.. Has Maid lowered the freelance suicide rate?.. or are they breaking new ground?..
They’re breaking new ground.
Just consider that notion for a moment, eh? It really wakes you up.

I know people forget the number of aborted innocent babies since the Mulroney regime allowed the abortion laws to lapse in 1992.
Back then, Statistics Canada announced that 100,000 babies were being aborted per year.
Here we are 30 years later, at 100K per year that’s 3 million Canadian babies murdered, and no end in sight.
I would think we would be 10% of America’s numbers as we are about 10% of their population. That would make the number over 6 million.
Killing the next generation in the womb is not the smartest, best idea, never mind the immorality of it.
