Ban All The Things!

Land of the freezing, home of the bug eaters.

Under new Energy Department efficiency standards, bulbs manufactured and sold now must meet the “minimum energy-efficiency standard” of 45 lumens per watt, giving rise to LED bulbs that some researchers have suggested can cause health complications.

Biden’s light bulb ban joins the list of growing home items the President has fixated on. Perhaps most notably, gas stoves have been a target of his administration for several months.

Specifically, the DOE-proposed energy consumption standards that, if enacted, would reportedly make half of America’s gas-powered stoves non-compliant with the rule, a move Republicans have warned would wreak havoc on financially burdened families.

Because of this, House Republicans passed two bills aimed at blocking federal attempts to regulate gas-powered stoves, arguing that, on top of the economic implications, it would also violate consumer choice.

Other items like gas furnaces, AC units, washing machines and refrigerators have also come under DOE scrutiny, all in the name of “energy efficiency” and combating climate change. However, many don’t agree that the efforts to regulate home appliances are climate-motivated.

  1. Aka death by a thousand cuts. America is not dying, covid/vaccines, boosters, illegal immigration, gender mutilation, reduced sentences, taxes/mill$ steel from gov purse, climate change crap, inflation, what else? let’s give to Ukraine, Africa etc – all this and America STILL not dying. Well, let’s invent new ways to torment the citizens.

  2. Odd.. That we have conflict of interest on politicians enriching themselves with money.. But no conflict of interest of them enriching themselves with power.. Ban the competition, monopolies for their friends / political platforms..

Its the same thing.. Especially when the “friends” are heavily subsidized and knowing of the political nature of it all.. Talk about a built in fan club regulating it self.. More or less a front door conflict of interest.. Forced to join a political movement..

The finer points of our life.. The fact that science is so dependent on government.. Is wide open for mistakes and abuse in support of the political party supporting it.. If either one fails the other one goes down with it.. How can that be trusted with no oversight?

Who’s side are they on?.. Who is even who?.. I have no idea and that’s the plan..

  3. “It’s about doing away with the fossil fuel industry; they’ve been pretty clear about that.”

Kinda. Better wake up to the fact that ultimately it’s about power and control.

Still pretending that guy decides which pudding cup he’s having for lunch, eh?

    1. Yup, Phantom. pResident Brandon no longer decides when to poop. Even that decision is not in his purview anymore.

    2. The “President” these days can’t even fixate on what flavour ice cream to choose. He’s a puppet and as such let’s his handlers do the fixating.

  5. I wonder how many, such as me, are old enough to remember when the customers and the marketplace decided what we can buy and sell, not the government.

    1. Exactly the problem. Did any of the elected sociopaths campaign on telling the voters what they will eat, wear, what they can cook on, etc. A government that can’t balance a budget doesn’t deserve the respect nor obedience of any of its citizens. Become ungovernable.

  6. It’s just dumb. I converted to all LED, and my electricity use has skyrocketed as a result. It’s great because I’ve got tons more light, I’m not changing bulbs nearly as often, and with automation I don’t use switches as much. My electric bill runs around $300.

I have a HE condensing furnace, an he condensing water heater, and a gas stove/oven, and my last gas bill was $30.

    1. I’m a bit confused? Are you saying your electricity consumption has skyrocketed, or the actual cost, ie the dollar cost.
BC Hydro gives us a comparison between current and past consumption, and although ours is usually slightly lower currently (no pun intended) the cost is at least 50% higher.

  7. Liberals pissing their panties over climate change also want landlords to be required to install AC in rental units.
Because the planet is boiling or something.
Don’t bother trying to explain power requirements or electrical loads to them.

  8. LED performance has come LONG way since they first emerges in the early 1970s

As glass-tubed fluorescent tubes have failed, I have lately been replacing them with LED tubes with the appropriate swapping out of the “starter”.

There are commercially available pocket-sized LED units that have adjustable brightness AND colour, Try that with a filament or “CFL”.

The LED “boom” had to wait until some clever folks finally developed the “BLUE” LED. Thus, increasingly bright and robust video displays and domestic, theatrical and industrial lighting that surrounds us all today..

    Three colours to make then all;

    Magenta: (A very specific “red”)
Cyan: (A very specific “green”), and
    “Blue”

The presence, variation (or absence) of these colours of light can produce pretty much everything from black to white.

The infra-red, LED laser is another marvel of modern technology.

  9. “Ban all the things”.
    Damn fine idea.
    I shall join the cause.
I have banned all “Assault Style Liberals” from my life.

The “Mandators” shall be fed to the maneaters.
The perfect win win for civilized people everywhere.
