Conspiratorial conservatives

The only phrase missing from this editorial masquerading as news is “right wing authoritarianism”. Judging from the choice of political leaders used as examples of liars and the complete absence of any discussion of lies promoted by leftists, it’s pretty clear that the book’s author is convinced that only conservatives could possibly buy into conspiracy theories.

“I studied the words of big liars throughout contemporary history, from Hitler to Trump and found common patterns,” University of Toronto linguist Marcel Danesi told CTVNews.ca.

Danesi points to the Nazi regime, which described its targets as “pests” and “parasites” – terms that have been echoed more recently by white supremacists in the U.S. and elsewhere.

  1. Things evolve. Funny how today Nazis want less government and greater freedom . Hitler never said “drain the swamp.”

  2. You thought Toronto couldn’t get worse?
Mayor Chow has declared ALL MALES are not welcome due to their violence towards women.

  3. “Small fringe minority… with unacceptable views”
    “Those people”

Seems like those are pretty ‘Nazi-esque’ things to say from my perspective…

    …but that’s just me.

As for the the “conspiracy theories and political lies…

…you mean like J6 was an insurection?
…that Antifa and BLM protests were “mostly peaceful???

  4. Danesi seems to forget, in his virulent hatred of all things rightwing, that National Socialism was and is Socialism, in no way significantly different from Marxist Socialism. All socialism means bigger government at the expense of the individual.

What Danesi also seems to forget is that under all of his beloved socialisms, it’s always the intellectuals like him that are the first ones marched off to the government firing squads first.

    1. A quote that I’ve often posted hither & yon:

“There are two breeds of Bolshevism…..there is nothing to choose between the philosophies of Moscow and Berlin.”
Duff Cooper, British politician, August 23, 1939. (Found in Niall Ferguson’s ‘The War Of The World’)

      1. There is a small difference, but essentially they are the same thing.

The “differences” were often discussed at the time and many businessmen in Germany would answer this question with an anecdote which was very popular among them. It tells of two peasants who did not understand the difference between Bolshevism and National Socialism. One of them asked the other his opinion on the matter. The answer was:

“Under Bolshevism all your cows will be taken away from you because you are a kulak. Under National Socialism you are allowed to keep the cows; but the State takes all the milk, and you have the expense and labor of feeding them.”

  5. Transference is a mostly progressive disorder and one used incessantly by their media eunuchs. Whatever they say about their enemies is actually their sins.

    1. It was left leaning people who very recently favored taking away the human rights and bodily autonomy away from the uunvaccinated. Polls showed Democrats going to the extreme of agreeing with the idea of confining the unvaccinated in prison and taking away their children. I wonder if the author has heard of the term projection.

“Projection is stating that other people have certain traits or characteristics, or engage in certain behaviors, when you yourself are actually the person who acts that way or has those personality traits.”

“Projection can be made on an unconscious level, but other times, it’s done deliberately as a defense tactic. A politician, for example, will use projection to distract from their flaws and shift the blame.”

  6. “Big liars”. I’ll assume this pathetic idiot didn’t look once at Joe Biden’s history of lies going back 50+ years.

    1. Denesi may be pathetic but he definitely comes under the category of “useful idiots” in the communist ideology.

  7. Also be on the watch for people who wear German suits and drive German cars, because its always in good fun until someone loses Nakitomi Plaza.

  8. This putz needs to ask himself why he has such “strong convictions” as he strolls the halls of paradox.

All will be resolved once he realizes his arguments are entirely defensive. Until then, off to another TED Talk little Marcel.

It’s funny that Danesi conflates Nazis with Trump supporters while he collects a paycheck from the University of Toronto, the only Canadian University activly involved in the BDS movement against Israel.

  9. …pests and parasites – words echoed by white supremacists, eh!
And who was it that used the phrase “basket of deplorables?” Oh yeah, Her!
Got her a ton of attention, but lost her a lot of support.
This linguist should not be anywhere near the halls of academia the same as the Hildabeast should never be in power. I guess the score is 1 for 2.
