Mark Rutte, the Dutch prime minister, has announced his resignation and that of his cabinet, citing irreconcilable differences within his four-party coalition about how to rein in migration.
The decision on Friday by the Netherlands’ longest-serving premier means the country will face a general election later this year for the 150-seat lower house of parliament.
“It is no secret that the coalition partners have very different views on migration policy,” Rutte told reporters in The Hague. “And today, unfortunately, we have to draw the conclusion that those differences are irreconcilable. That is why I will immediately … offer the resignation of the entire cabinet to the king in writing.”
Opposition lawmakers wasted no time in calling for fresh elections.
Geert Wilders, leader of the anti-immigration Party for Freedom, tweeted, “Quick elections now”. Jesse Klaver, leader of the Green Left party also called for elections and told Dutch broadcaster NOS: “This country needs a change of direction.” […]
During provincial elections earlier this year, a populist pro-farmer party put Rutte’s party into second place. The defeat was seen as a possible incentive for Rutte to do his utmost to hold together his coalition until its term ends in 2025.
Mark Rutte should be turned into fertilizer and spread across acres of pasture.

Hope my ‘rite-wing’ cousins aren’t too badly upset by this, but I will drink a toast to this event!
As you would expect from the Grauniad more fake news, there are at least three major problems that faced Rutte,
1. immigration of hoards of muslims (both legal and illegal) that refuse to integrate into a stable society
2. an inability to understand farmers concerns in a very large agricultural country.
3. following the disastrous lead of the EU and NATO by supporting Ukraine, as a result gas imports have been massively reduced and energy prices have gone beyond affordable.
In summary he was at odds with the majority of the country but especially the long term residents that built the country from the ashes of ww2. As a WEF member he will not be missed.

One minor quibble; the long term residents you mention are now declining in importance electorally. As they age and are killed off the memories of the Hunger Winter recede. The legendary Dutch largesse to farmers in the 60’s and 70’s is perhaps becoming less a budgetary priority compared to saving the world via the mad Green Agenda. More an opinion by myself, if you have more firsthand knowledge I defer.
How about this: Holland is seizing farms in the name of curbing carbon, because it is politically easier than stating the true goal; the former farmland will be used for building new towns necessary to house all the new Dutch “ citizens” – 3rd world immigrants.
