Cops in France have been granted the authority to remotely activate a suspect’s cellphone camera, microphone and GPS, after the passage of a provision in a wider “justice reform bill” on Wednesday night.
Well, yes, there is a form of spyware that can be loaded onto a phone simply by receiving a phone call.
of course, you can always load one of the no spy builds, but it gimps most functionality

I design very high tech crap yet don’t have a smart phone. Don’t need one. When I leave the office, I leave the office. When I go on vacation, I am on vacation. I have a very basic dumb phone in the car for emergencies only, battery out.
When I meet friends and family, guess what – I talk to them .

Correct. In the bag, no calls. Sometimes its the only way I can get any peace and quiet. As to whether or not its off line when you turn it off I think that is a VERY questionable assumption.
The new phones are never off unless the battery is removed.
They have always done it.. Who wants to do real police work when you can just press a button.. The only trick was figuring out how to use it.. Now they don’t even need to bother..
