Globe and Mail- Norway’s government approves more than US$18-billion in oil, gas investments
Norway’s government said on Wednesday it has given approval for oil companies to develop 19 oil and gas fields with investments exceeding 200 billion Norwegian crowns ($18.51-billion), part of the country’s strategy to extend production for decades to come.
Norway’s parliament in 2020 introduced temporary tax incentives to encourage petroleum investment at a time of low activity, triggering a rush of applications from energy companies.
These people are smart.

When the Scandinavian countries were doing all sorts of socialist shit, we were supposed to follow them. Now, when they’ve returned to their capitalist roots–not so much.
I find this strange. Norway’s last election saw the left of center factions win. The most important issue per exit polls was “climate change.” Prior to that election, the “conservatives” had the majority. And, during their tenure, oil exports to China were increasing significantly each year….until 2022 (which saw a major export dip of Norway crude to China) which saw the left of center factions take the majority.
I can’t make sense of it. You would not expect them to get behind an increase of fossil fuel development, nor would you expect them to show the hand to China.
The gig is up. Seems some have come to realization gas and oil fuel a prosperous economy. Kids gotta eat. It’s called a sound plan that those in government here are not aboard with. WEF fouck you.

Without oil & gas revenue, Norway would be one of the poorest countries in Europe. With it Norway is the 4th richest country (based on GDP per capita) in the world.
It must be nice to live in a country where the PM lives in the real world.

Our betters in the UK government (and His Majesty’s Official Opposition) have decided to ban any new oil and gas leases in the North Sea. Not to stop using fossil fuel, but to ensure we have to buy it from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Russia (via India of course, after it has been mixed with some stuff from Venezuela/ Iran/ Iraq/ insert thirld world pariah state of your choice, to cover up that it is, predominantly, Russian).
Yeah, don’t get the tax (£55Bn at the mo) into the UK Treasury from digging up our own oil and gas, allowing UK companies to gain some profit (not to mention provide jobs), let’s send it overseas.
Apparently “freezing to death in the dark” didn’t resonate with focus groups of the Norwegian electorate.
With Norwegian wealth taxes driving high worth individuals out of the country, they need to do something to prop up their revenue base. Stick with what works because their bright new ideas stink.
They should have consulted with Blackface and the Grimace before doing that. There is no “business” case for oil and gas investment.
