      I don’t think increased life expectancy mandates a comparable increase in the length (also measured in years) of sentient mental capacity. Is it possible that our bodies are outliving the temporal capacity of the human mind to function effectively?

      1. roaddog, that is something I personally have thought about as well. The slow break down of the human body has to effect the mind as well as the muscles. It has been an observation of mine that once we pass 80 things can change quite quickly. I am still in reasonable shape for my age and I can still walk 18 holes of golf carrying a half bag of clubs three days a week, I used to play everyday possible during the season when younger.
        Another observation is that when younger any stressful physical activity improved the activity, sore muscles stopped being sore, the ability to continue longer improved, now, nope I just plain get tired.
        Age does have an impact.

  5. As Wagner’s Prigozhin marched closer to Moscow he was unable to gather support. Russian soldiers did not oppose him, but they did not support him either. Sensing the emergence of a suicide mission he tucked his tail and turned. Putin stays in Moscow and Prigozhin hides in Belarus. The media invented the term “negative loyalty” in an attempt to describe the soldier’s reaction to the mutiny. But it is more accurate to suggest the soldiers showed positive loyalty to each other rather than either leader. They would not mutiny and they would not fight Wagner soldiers on Russian soil. Only after Prigozhin realized this did he abandon his certain death march. I would rather be Putin in Moscow than Prigozhin in Belarus.

    1. Facepalm. No, when you’re a soldier tasked with defending your country and a coup d’état is happening next to you you don’t get to vote “present”. If principles are your strong suit, you side with those you believe are right. If self-preservation is your strong suit, you side with those who you believe will win.     2. Per simplicius, top Russian command never gave the order for troops to engage Wagners marching on Moscow. The plan was to negotiate a deal to avoid bloodshed between Russians. That helicopters had engaged and were shot down early on may have been due to a commander jumping the gun. Wagners live to fight another day on the Belarus- Poland border as this escalates.

  9. Too bad Canada (or the west for that matter) doesn’t have journalists stationed in Russia. People who have contacts they can meet with over a bottle of vodka and get a story. The reports on the recent ruskie events we got from our media might have just as well come from the Hafford Sk Hotel (Uke central).

    Our media was completely incapable of interpreting what was going on. They had Priggy taking a city without a shot being fired. Does that seem likely(?) or did he receive a hero’s welcome? If it was a revolt why was he allowed to walk? Not one story suggested he was a patriot admired by the masses.

    2. Per McGreggor, team Priggy’s protest marchers are also Rusian “patriots”. The intent of the protest was to impress on Putin the need to stop lollygagging & finish off the Ukies before NATO puts boots on the ground in West Ukraine. Some Generals are of the same opinion. Staged or not, Putin won’t let the crisis go to waste. He needs to get the public onboard to go full war. P.S. Wagner recruiting offices are back open.

        Priggy is a hawk and has had enough. He wants to get the war over by whatever means. He was sending a message to vlad. This may be the excuse vlad needs to up the effort or…he takes out priggy – or both.

        Who will take over Wagner if vlad caps priggy? There may be some risks (revolt) to vlad if he does that. The ruskie people are on board for now but they will be reluctant to accept a humiliation.

    Scientists from the Omsk State Technical University have developed engines for small spacecraft that run on a mixture of water and alcohol. The development will allow creating maneuvering orbital constellations of satellites. The development of “Gazeta.Ru” was told in the press service of OmSTU.

    Small spacecraft (SSC) weigh from one to 500 kilograms and are used, in particular, for remote sensing of the Earth and space monitoring. Such devices operate in low Earth orbits, where the influence of Earth’s gravity is strong. For their operation, small engines are needed to perform various maneuvers. In addition, sufficient fuel reserve and low power consumption are important.

    Freons, isobutane and other gases harmful to humans are now used as fuel for propulsion systems on small spacecraft. Scientists from Omsk State Technical University have proposed an engine design that can operate on an alcohol-water mixture that is completely safe for humans.

    “The alcohol-water mixture comes from the fuel tank to the automation elements and enters the microengine. It consists of a large number of gas channels and a heater. When voltage is applied, the micromotor warms up, the fuel evaporates, the generated steam overheats and creates a thrust force,” Anton Lukyanchik, senior lecturer at the Aircraft and Rocket Engineering Department of Omsk State Technical University, explained to Gazeta.Ru.

    The development will improve the performance of small satellites and create maneuvering orbital constellations of satellites.

    Lukyanchik noted that the design of the engine can be easily changed depending on the tasks of the satellite. For example, automation, solenoid valves, a micromotor can be left unchanged, and the fuel system (tank and pipelines) can be equipped for specific purposes. This provides the possibility of orbital maneuvering. In addition, scientists have managed to improve reliability and reduce the mass and time of creating propulsion systems, Lukyanchik continued.

    The scientist drew attention to the fact that the necessary components for creating prototypes of the propulsion system were received by the university at the end of 2022 as part of the Priority 2030 program, the national project Science and Universities. Now specialists are engaged in their assembly. And by the end of this year, they plan to conduct tests in a vacuum chamber.
