CTV slips up saying "…NDP didn't get the votes WE WERE HOPING" @CTVNews you are definitely bought and paid for. pic.twitter.com/JtGnCEfjYb

The smear campaign failed.
More… Everyone that is so impressed that the NDP gained seats is a moron. Danielle Smith is the story here, but of course it’s ignored.

HA! Did (i) a CTV commentator actually say that or (ii) was CTV interviewing an NDP talking bobblehead – this is unclear here (although both possibilities are equally believable)
The MSM – whose polls I was always skeptical of – went full “Pravda” on this election.
To paraphrase Tropic Thunder’s Kirk Lazurus, “never go full Pravda”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAKG-kbKeIo
So …. occasionally they tell the truth?
Occasionally they absentmindedly share their inner thoughts out loud.
My wife watches the Toronto CTV morning show. One of the hosts mentioned that the NDP lost a “close” race, you could hear the regret in her voice.
I have never noticed CTV hiding their partisanship. They were blatantly anti-conservative yet the idiot prime minister, Steven Harper, approved one Bell Canada merger or acquisition after another. He should have appointed a brand new CRTC, all of whom despised CBC and CTV. The idiot Harper even let the CRTC kill the only TV network that supported him, Sun News.
The CRTC didn’t kill Sun News. They were just terrible. Further, it is not the business of government to punish your perceived enemies.
Agreed, Scar. I asked my cable provider every couple of months when Sun News would be available for over a year. We got an email gleefully telling us when Al Jazeera became available, but they stealth-added Sun News and their own salesfolks “missed” it being available.
Uncomfortably narrow wins in many ridings but a win is a win. After Kenny’s diasterous leadership, a UCP win was considered DOA. Danielle Smith brought the Conservatives back from the brink of political death in a few short months, despite relentless attacks by the media, unions, etc. Imagine the gains she could make given 4 years in power. That’s my hopeful prediction for Alberta’s future.
The provincial NDP and Trudeau’s Liberal-NDP coalition government really needed to win Alberta. Now they’ll have to battle two of the richest provinces over every piece of federal government legislation designed to hobble Saskatchewan’s and Alberta’s economy. And, that is why journalists used the word “we”….because they are a wholly owned subsidiary of the Liberal Party of Canada.
The media was viciously fighting against Smith….and still the NDP couldn’t win. As Notley’s drinking problem gets out to the masses, she will fade away…they won’t be able to airbrush her photos any longer.
Yeah but… Nenshi is waiting in the wings for his coronation once she retires to Kelowna.
Yeah, just keep whistling past that graveyard.
And I’m happy that our local UCP member lost. When I was with the Wildrose party she came to talk to us (while she was a member of the Progressive Conservative riding association, while the merger talks were occuring) and her stated qualifications for being our nominee started with being a woman of colour and how important diversity was. She was not the winner of the race within the riding to be our nominee, but the winner decided to spend more time with his family a few months later…
Kenny’s UCP was responsible for the lockdowns, and that deserves a reckoning. Many of the MLAs who backed the covid nonsense wholeheartedly are the same ones now chaffing about Smith and “That’s not who we are!”
Opinions noted and discarded.
Blackie issued a statement that he is looking forward to working with her, to make Alberta a leader in clean energy.
Yeah, well that ain’t gonna happen
Smith needs to be the first leader to unequivocally reject the premise of “climate change”. It does not have to be overnight, but she and her govt need to start exposing the fraud and manipulated data. CO2 is life. More CO2 is more life.
Two things she must make perfectly clear….first that she will NOT allow Albertans to undergo energy poverty or shortage….second that she will not allow Ottawa to interfere with farming operations to interfere with food supply.
Third, that despite the Liberal / NDP’s whole “Net-Zero By 2030!!!” shlock, it’ll be the Eastern ba$tards who freeze in the dark, not Albertans. Saskatchewan is showing the way – and Ottawa’s only answer, Yes but only QUEBEC gets to drop “Notwithstanding” on anything they don’t like, doesn’t wash. “WE tell YOU what to do – and YOU DO IT!!!” – “No.” What’s Little Potato gonna’ threaten AlSask with – Canada’s sadly depleted army?
I also like the idea of banding-together with the NW States to run an oil pipeline south of the border, into Seattle. “Well you can’t sell your oil – you have no way to get it to market!” ” – Syke!”
Totally agree. As long as we accept the frame of climate change bad we will always be on the defensive. Smith needs to be firm about making those who are promoting this lie prove the efficacy of any measures. It can’t be done. There never has been an honest accounting.
Who gives a shit about CTV. Contemptuous twits.
Well done Alberta!

Disagree that Smith is the story – she faced what any remotely conservative leader would have faced.
NDP have gained votes in every single election since 2008. They have not relinquished a single vote from the 500% increase they gained due to Smiths floor crossing in 2015.
Fighting on the lefts terms, using their terminology, placating the enemedia are fruitless endeavors. It will win you no votes from the other side, and cost you chunks of your base. Alberta is now a 2 party state. Smith needs to govern from well right of center, not the mushy middle. NDP governs and campaigns hard left. Not even close to middle ground. Works well in terms of building base.
NDP gained 160K votes from last election
UCP lost 115K
Did Smith lose conservative votes because
A) Too conservative
B) Not conservative enough?
On top of that the ballot process is an insecure joke – wide open to fraud. First order of business is to fix this.
Mostly wrong.
She had to fight an election on very short notice given the way Kenney was forced from office.
She had to fight with a deeply divided UCP that was constantly threatening to fall apart in the usual Tory fratricide. She had no time in office before she was in election mode.
She had to fight Alberta forest fire disasters along with running an election.
She inherited all of the policy disasters of her predecessor with no time to fix them.
She faced an onslaught by the NDP of character assassination only.
She was attacked relentlessly by the lamestream media right up to and including election night.
So, why was there some slippage of vote support? Mostly because of quislings like you.
Wrong guy to call a quisling cgh – the real enemy are the ones making excuses and not focusing on the fact that mushy middle conservatism loses you votes, and those who buy into that argument. See Scheer, Otoole, Kenney etc.
Kenney was given a massive majority and mandate – and he pissed it away because he is, was and always will be a progressive pretending to be a conservative.
NDP did not stay home – conservatives did. Or perhaps some shennanigans.
Which means that you did nothing to support your opening statement “Disagree that Smith is the story – she faced what any remotely conservative leader would have faced.”
That’s you, and I showed you were wrong. Try some evidence next time to back up your nonsense.
I attribute most of the swing from the fake-right to the ultra far-left due to two major factors:
1) 24/7 far-left media propaganda
2) voter fraud
No one swings to the commies. A big C conservative might have drifted to the Liberal Party, but not to the commies. And Alberta was a place where the right could be split between the fake-right PCs and the center-right Wildrose, and the commies would still come in a distant third.
There’s no evidence of voter fraud.
I am not sure that gaining 160,000 votes from the even further left alberta party is the heroic flex you think it is…..
Interesting voter split, isn’t it. Around 97% for 2 parties, out of the 15 that were registered for this election. Liberals and milquetoasts voting strategically again to back the NDP, knowing that their preferred parties didn’t have a chance.
It’s too bad really. I want better options. I want Notley gone! I am astonished that she not only stuck around but will continue to do so. Truly awful decision making by the NDP.
What do you call someone from Toronto in a cowboy hat?
A Calgary NDP voter.
Always remember, the media hate the citizens. Honk, Honk.
I think a good way to manage climate change is to give people options, so they can spend their money as they wish.
Set up a provincial government gas station chain with “climate solution” 25% additional tax prices. The dippers can all go buy their gas there and the govt will be rolling in dough.
Just to rub it in, set up another chain for climate skeptics who would pay no tax at all. You vote for the climate you foresee. We’ll find out how much of an “emergency” the public perceives.
Or put the climate taxes on pot, reasoning that woke socialists are not going to mind even before they get high.
And they can add a place on the natural gas bill where you can send in climate $$$ indulgences. What a great idea!!
The controlled media are spinning the rejection of Kenney’s fake-conservatives as voters embracing Notley’s commies.
And the real story here is the continued march to destruction as the controlled far-left media, the far-left public school system, the Freemason-controlled churches, the priests of the Roman Catholic cult, the globalist companies, NGOs, and every gov’t and quasi-gov’t agency pushes every aspect of communism under different names.
Because they are ALL on the same side. And it is against freedom and the middle class. Every change THEY CAUSE is spun as the people having spoken.
Even though the commies didn’t win this time, they keep getting closer as new generations drink the Koolaid, and millions of immigrants/refugees flow into the country.
And it is hardly a victory to have the Liberal Party win in Alberta, even if they use the word “conservative” in their party name.
Canadians will continue to live on their knees until they address the Media.

No but you can avoid catching socialism by upping your dose of vitamin L (logic).
She better be.
Cory Morgan @CoryBMorgan · 5h
Smith has a small majority, but has a 10 (11ish) seat buffer in the legislature. She can get stuff done.
Let’s not forget the popular vote story. The UCP got 52.56%
In 1993, Klein got 44.5% for comparison.
It was a reduction in seats, but a clear victory.
Peter McCaffrey @peteremcc
The UCP is down just 1% from 2019.
The NDP took the Alberta Party vote.
That’s it.
I heard turnout was lower than last time, which I find baffling. I’d be interested in the vote totals by riding.
You’d find them much more interesting if you walked on your own two feet.
How much money does the Chinese Communist Party pour into these Canadian media companies?

“By the time of the next Alberta election, the CBC will have been sold by Poilievre…”
meanwhile, x-mayor of Calgary Nenshi plots his return…
“sold by Poilievre…”
Sold? Like someone will pay for a company that loses over a $ billion per year. Auction the pieces.

Christ that last linked Tweet was some wildly self-congratulatory BS. Fact is, this is as disastrous a victory as we could ask for. It was far closer than it should have been and the NDP made gains particularly in Calgary, which is the most important place. It is where a cosmopolitan educated political right can form that can actually lead us to real victory instead of blathering about ‘the establishment’. If the UPC becomes a rural party it’s dead. As is, Smith barely won after a campaign of throwing money at stadiums and other special interests. The NDP lost the election but won the really important struggle. Alberta is just another place now. Maybe it always was.
Wanted to make an observation about a comment I read earlier on another thread.
The gist of it was that the poster was glad that Tyler Shandro had been beat by the NDP candidate & that this was fitting punishment for being such a Covid Nazi.
1. Tyler Shandro was a Covid Nazi. No argument. I even sent an email to him when he openly criticized my MLA for taking his grandson down to Coutts to see the protest.
2. Voting for the Commies to spite Shandro is stupid. Shandro could be re-elected, then replaced in a by-election.
3. Now that ED has no recourse. They shot themselves in the foot.
4. This was one of the harder lessons for me to absorb: It’s not the candidate, it’s the party. Help the party win, then replace the candidate.
Shandro’s possible redemption was that we was ostensibly on board with Smith’s move to reject federal soft-on-crime and gun-grab/ban laws. Too bad the UCP seemed to downplay increased provincial sovereignty.
If he and others of that ilk had admitted they were wrong and just owned it, they could have coupled the public apology with an announcement of “Here’s what we’re going to do to make sure it doesn’t happen again.” I think that would have slaked some of the anger that drove people to other parties.
There’s a song about the Alberta NDP, it goes like this:
Four wrong things that are Notley’s
seven e’s that don’t work,
climate change and settler guilt are all they know,
but the bad times are all gone,
as Alberta’s moving on,
you can call yer pal George Soros tell him so.
