90 Replies to “Down The Primrose Path”

      1. Yes. I confess that while I understand the American isolationist impulse, I just don’t understand why it seems to have become so pro-Russian in this matter.

I might not agree with a straightforward argument like “nothing to do with us, we shouldn’t be involved” in this instance, but I could accept it. What I don’t get is all the silly conspiracy-theory nonsense (such as this Robb article) being bolted onto that argument.

The Russians tried to pull a coup de main last year and failed abysmally. Instead of seizing Kyiv and installing a more pliant Belarus-style government, they’re more or less back where they started, minus lots of men, equipment and the cruiser Moskva. Their “special military operation” makes them look thoroughly incompetent now as well, which is never a good look in warfighting.

Before 24 February 2022, this was viewed as a regional conflict sputtering and fizzling along on the periphery of the West’s attention span. But it was the Russians, not the West, who upped the global ante with their disastrous flop of a invasion.

        1. It is still not our war, and it would be best for everyone if our leaders were made to understand this. And it is still just a regional conflict sputtering and fizzing on the periphery of the West sphere of influence.

The only difference is that the conflict is somewhat more intense now.

          1. Russia is absolutely our problem. Belligerent in every sphere from the Arctic to cyberspace, they wouldn’t conquer us but they can do a lot of damage. Glad we’re damaging them instead. Oh and their war on Ukraine drove up food prices.

          2. Well, both sides seem to be committed to goals that they cannot achieve. So the war will continue until something breaks. We’ll have to see what.

        2. “I just don’t understand why it seems to have become so pro-Russian in this matter.”

It is combination of multiple factors.
          1. Some are genuine tankies.
          2. Others are team players. They are on team Anti Biden, Pootin is on team Anti Biden, hence Pootin must be a good guy. That’s essentially it. They are deeply cynical about it. They will dress it in some convoluted arguments framed in distorted visions of history, nonsense about NATO expansion and “spheres of influence”, but they really don’t care about any of those arguments (hence why those arguments always seem artificial). They want Brandon Alzheimer humiliated and will use any means to get it done.
          3. Useful idiots, those are the morons who truly believe russians are more free than people in West. That russia is corrupt less than West, that Pootin is leading a holly crusade against “Globohomo” and that Zelensky is stealing the aid money for his Florida mansion.
          4. “They lied to us all the time so they must be lying again crowd.” People who stopped evaluating MSM messaging and reject everything wholesale. For them opposite day is everyday.

There is overlap between those groups, but that is essentially it.

      2. “I agree, let’s get Russia out of Ukraine.”

So let’s get serious and send in NATO ground troops, then. Canadian soldiers fighting and dying in Ukraine is just fine with you, right Allan? Because that is the *only* way any one is getting Russia out of Ukraine. Period. So either man up and call for direct NATO intervention, or STFU about it. Your whining is becoming tiresome.

        1. “Because that is the *only* way any one is getting Russia out of Ukraine. Period. ”

Ugh no, it isn’t. Russia cannot sustain this war. Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Afghanistan again are examples why. They will leave, that is inevitable now. I suspect that Crimea will become a Kosovo like enclave under some kind of International clusterf*** control and likely with a huge Chicom presence and growing mooselimb presence. Orcs will maintain Sevastopol enclave within enclave. The rest they cannot hold. I know you like to nurse your delusions about russia stronk, but that reality is that russia has GDP more or less of Texas and they are grinding to a halt.

          1. “Ugh no, it isn’t. Russia cannot sustain this war. Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, Afghanistan again are examples why. ”

With three times the population of Ukraine, they can easily sustain it long enough for Ukraine to collapse. Air power can never take the place of ground troops, as is aptly demonstrated by your examples above.

Negotiate now, or negotiate after a few thousand more deaths. Your choice.

          2. Regarding population:

That’s not how it works. With weapons production outside of Ukraine they will never run out. Orcs need to produce at home. Apart for Iran, orcs aren’t getting much. There hasn’t been confirmed Chicom supplies reaching orcs yet. And of course as China goes so does North Korea. That’s why orcs are scraping from the bottom of the a barrel while Ukrainians now have better equipped force than they ever had.

This combines with the question of loses. If you have 3 three times the population but are losing more than three times as many soldiers (which happened on many occasions) then it is unclear who can last longer.

Furthermore not all people are created equal. Age and health matter. Age distribution is awful for both, health distribution is disastrous for orcs.

            Regarding negotiations:

There is no polite way of putting it. It has been explained to you before that any negotiations means accepting genocide of Ukrainians in the areas occupied by orcs. Hence: 1. Not going to happen. 2. Your conscious denial of genocide perpetuated by orcs on Ukrainians makes you a worthless piece of excrement.

“Effective immediately, you have all been drafted to serve in the US military. Democracy is at stake, and we have run out of Ukrainians. Therefore, we are mandating that you leave your home and report to the nearest military installation for processing. Do not be concerned about leaving your house. It will be occupied and cared for by our dear friends and future citizens from south of the border. It probably will still be there if you manage to return from the war.

Also, we find it necessary to appropriate your 401k and passbook savings and cancel any government or private pension obligations. You probably won’t be needing that pension anyhow and this war looks like it’s going to be very expensive. Remember, democracy is at stake, so it is your patriotic duty to follow all government mandates.

For those of you who are renters and not homeowners, please proceed to the nearest exit where a bus is waiting to transport you to the nearest military training facility. Leave your car keys with the cashiers at lanes 2, 3, , or 4. Our future citizens from south of the border will store your car at their place for the duration of the war. It will be returned to you if you return from the war. Some wear is to be expected, but they have been instructed to change the oil regularly.

Remember, democracy is at stake, so do exactly as we say… or else.”

  3. “Those who do not study are doomed to repeat it”

    Hitler. Sudetenland. Look it up.

      1. Did Joe Biden not say back the month before the invasion that if it was just a little invasion he was fine with it? Not taking sides, just asking.

      2. Probably something along the lines of: “I wonder what it will feel like to get out of my dad’s ballsack”

        1. You only ever make idiotic comments and claims with zero evidence. Answer the questions. Your grasp of history is equivalent to my dogs.

          1. Your insipid harping on Vietnam merits no serious response. ‘Nam is neither here nor there.

          2. Because you can’t respond. I’m betting you hated that involvement and are all for this one. Logic ain’t your strong point.

          3. “I’m betting you hated that involvement and are all for this one.”

Not responding for UnMe here, but abandoning South Vietnam and feeding them into communist tyranny was a crime against against humanity and arguably the greatest betrayal in post WWII history.

  4. The Swarm is brining us to the most dangerous stage. They can’t accept that Ukraine can’t take back the Donbass or Crimea. Every escalation in what the west is supplying Ukraine started out with the statement “if they just had more howitzers…amoured personnel carriers….guided MRLS…..main battle tanks, they could push the Russians out of Ukraine”. None of these “game changers” actually turned out to be game changers. Now we are on to 4th generation fighter jets, F-16s to be specific.

After F-16s don’t turn out to be “game changers” then what? F-35s? Deployment of NATO troops to the front? Tactical Nukes? Do not underestimate the derangement of these people. They blew up the Nordstream pipeline, they are pretty much capable of anything.

    1. HIMARS was an inflection point in the war. Russia still hasn’t hit a single M142 or M270. Thencounteroffensive hasn’t even begun. There isn’t a single picture or video of any NATO tank or Bradley in combat.

      1. You know shit. No one who isn’t there knows and it’s likely not too many there do either. We are being told more lies than anyone can process.

      2. Ukraine has not taken a contested city, before or after HIMARS. It didnt stop the Russians from taking Soledar or Bahkmut. When does this phantom counter-offensive begin do you think? Are they waiting for their F-16s?

          1. Yeah civil wars tend to go that way. Fighting to the last Ukrainian is quite the plan! Oh wait! No Ukrainians were lost in these operations. Trust us!

          2. Please explain how it is not? Ukraine has been part of the Russian empire off and on since … forever. Oh right! You just make claims without evidence. How did you feel about Viet Nam, by the way? Were you all for the US keeping the NVA outta SVN? Or was that not a civil war either? Stop talking outta your ass.

          3. It’s not a civil war. It’s an invasion of a sovereign country by another attempting to re-establish a (dead) empire.

          4. Sure and the US civil war was an invasion of the sovereign Confederate States by the USA. Same as it ever was. Logic and facts always elude you.

          5. “Ukraine took back Kherson and bled the Russkies white in Bakhmut.”

The Russians didn’t contest Kherson. As for who got bled white in Bakhmut maybe history will lift the veil of propaganda, for now all we know for sure is who won.

          6. The Russians didn’t contest Kherson, and weren’t the only ones bled white in Bakhmut. The latter was a battle more reminiscent of Verdun or Passchendaele, where both the attacker and the defender got bled hard with nothing to show for it.

At Bakhmut, the Russians would have been better off had they stopped attacking once they bogged down, and the Ukrainians would have been better off had they just withdrawn and made the Russians start over from square one at the next defensive line. Instead there was an attritional bloodbath that did no one any good, but ultimately hurt the Ukrainians worse, as they are less able to replace their casualties.

          7. Wrong, at Bakhmut, orcs got decimated at rates many times that of Ukrainians. We don’t know the exact numbers of dead on either side. We will have (after the war) accurate Ukrainian numbers, we know they were significant*, but orc numbers will probably be a matter of debate for decades**. Either way the loses were extremally one sided. So it would not be better had Ukrainians withdrew. Had they done so, they would have to defend another place. They made their stand and bled orcs to the point that orcs were unable to mount a meaningful offensive anywhere else because they were throwing endless bodies into the meatgrinder.

I know having amnesia is a required trait among orc supporters, but do browse the archives at SDA and remind yourself how you have been spanking your monkeys about orc winter offensive bound for Odessa and such.

*Albeit nowhere near as significant as cretins like Gateway Pundit “analyzed”.
**a Large number of Wagners were killed before they were formally registered with their units so they are filled as dead to accident on their way to the front line.
**b Large numbers of mobiks were sent to for on the job training in Bakhmut (yes!) and their deaths have been filed as non combat deaths during training accidents.
**c Above are just two examples of creative orc statistics, there is more. Everything russian about russia is a lie.

        1. “When does this phantom counter-offensive begin do you think?”

You mean the russian Winter offensive when orcs will finally regain their initiative and win the war. About that… yeah Winter is over and orcs bleed out at Bunker Hill city called Bakhmut.

          1. “orcs bleed out at Bunker Hill city called Bakhmut.”

So you claim. You don’t know that though. Neither of us knows the actual casualties on either side. I can see why you want to believe that though as all we know for sure is who won.

          2. I rely on rapports of independent journalists and foreign medic volunteers who until recently were in Bakhmut and analysis by very good specialists. Can give you a list if you’re interested but most are in Polish. You relay on wishful thinking and accuse your betters of doing what you are doing. You’re only partially excused because quality of western Osint is rather pathetic.

    2. “After F-16s don’t turn out to be “game changers” then what? ”

They will not. None expects them to be that. Yes F-16s are needed and they will help. Just another tool in Ukrainian arsenal. A tool that is badly needed but it is not Wunderwaffe. Country’s military capability is a product of multiple factors. With exception of overhyped Bayraktar, every other high profile Western System helped to turn the tide, and the more systems Ukrainians have the better as the whole is much larger than a sum of the pieces.

  5. And who is this ‘Swarm’?

Honestly, it sounds a bit like Biden’s ‘white supremacists’.

    1. It’s the ‘globalists’: a vague scapegoat of a group. Kate and the linked author don’t have arguments and they can’t even come up with decent conspiracy theories. So we get these ‘conspiracy theories without conspiracies’. They’ve lost.

      1. Shakespeare must have had you in mind. “It’s a tale told by an idiot. Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.”

        1. That is indeed an apt summary of conservatism, the associated movement, and its people.

          1. I am struggling to decide which of the preceding two comments falls closer to original purity of the big bang of stupid.

          2. If you want a comeback to an irrelevant Shakespearean quote you’ll have to scrape of your chin.

  6. B Galtski
Try “swamp”, and you have a pretty large portion of the swarm membership list, just don’t say JOO, as you may hit a nerve with the bible bangers.

  7. Meh, The US and the rest of the west has been dominated by Trotskyites AKA progressives sho idea of perpetual war/revolution with the aim of perfecting humanity. They took over in the 1880s and have convinced a lot of foolish people that progressivism is the way to the future. Sadly these useful idiots have never understood what the aim truly was. The progressives are violently anti God and want to destroy any vestige of His worship or following. The WW! went a long way in destroying the Church and WWII was a further eroding of the social order. Now a Country such is Russia is the enemy simply because it holds to Orthodox Christian views.

    1. The US has been dominated by Trotskyites AKA progressives who took over in the 1880s

The last fairly decent US president was Grover Cleveland. No joke.

Samuel Clemens’s comment after coming out of a private meeting in the White House with Theodore Roosevelt could be applied to almost every successor: “The President is clearly insane.”

    2. Trotskyites took over in 1880? Interesting. They travelled back in time or something?

  8. In the words of JFK to his brother Bobbie, left stunned and horrified after being advised by senior members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to launch a massive preemptive nuclear strike on Russia in early ’63 – “That’s the thing with those people…nobody will be around to tell them they were wrong”
Imagine turning Europe, and most likely North America into a sheet of glass over a fake country that’s been part of Russia since the 10th century.
SMDH. I see the usual cadre of armchair warriors are out in full force today.

    1. Calm down no one’s getting glassed. But Russia is getting destroyed, and will probably fall apart this decade.

      1. You fool! If they succeed in getting rid of Putin, you assume his replacement will be better? Get your head outta that dark place!

        1. That’s besides my point, which is that Russia as we know it will stop existing.

          1. Maybe we will all stop existing if this continues. I remember when the left pretended they were against war especially nuclear ones. Now they’re all in and big defenders of Big Pharma too. Orwell would be proud to be proven right about that memory hole.

      2. “But Russia is getting destroyed, and will probably fall apart this decade.”

Yes, process has already begun and is irreversible.
        Mene, Mene, Tekel, Parsin

      3. “But Russia is getting destroyed, and will probably fall apart this decade.”

        In your dreams.

        1. Yes, but more crucially also in realty.

Muscovy delenda est (don’t forget the salt).

    2. “….a fake country that’s been part of Russia since the 10th century.”

      Who taught you history kiddo?
Russia did not exists in the 10th century.
Ukraine wasn’t a part of russia for most of russian history.
Russia was a Mongol fiefdom since its inception until 1700 which is for most of their history.

      1. No, but it has been part of the Russian empire and the Soviet empire off and on. Their languages, religions and cultures are similar. First cousins if not brothers. Cossacks have served many masters. The Soviets starved the Ukrainians and then the Ukrainians allied with the Nazis in WWII and there is still a significant Nazi element there but why exactly are we involved? Attempting to bring Nato to the Russian border was inviting this from Putin. As if the US would have been happy with Mexico joining the Warsaw Pact. I’m not pro Russia but neither am I for taking the side of the Ukrainian kleptocrats. We have enough of our own. This is as much a civil war as any I can remember or have read about. The only difference would have been if the USA had have allowed CSA independence for 30 years and then decided to reverse it. YMMV.

        1. Everything you said is either out of context or pure nonsense. Every single point. So I am not going to bother with the pseudo historical drivel and artificial comparisons. Except for one thing. The issue of Ukraine in NATO was briefly floated by Bush Jr and then promptly abandoned by Hussein Ogabe al-Chicago who sent Hitlery with the RESET button (that was after orc invasion of Georgia). To further appease Pootin and punish pro US allies Ogabe withdrew plans for missile interceptors from Poland the Chechia and made it very clear that NATO will not expand further. The issue was literarily dead and burred until recently. Go back a decade ago and majority of Ukrainians weren’t even interested. So this entire narrative is false from the start. Ogabe, Merkel and Macrone were bending over backwards to assure Pootin that NATO will not expand into Ukraine. And it wasn’t going to.
It will now, thanks to Pootin’s disastrous decision to invade Ukraine.

  9. FFS, I’m so sick of the “brink of nuclear war” rhetoric. Short of launching strategic ICBMs against Ukrainian cities (which woud prompt a massive response from not only NATO countries but also China) he has no way of accurately deliving tactical warheads onto Ukrainian targets.

    1. And you know that how? By the way, assuming that was true, just how accurate do you need to be with a nuke? You know what they say about horseshoes and hand grenades?

  10. Silly article, it describes what does not exists but would be desirable as existing and undesirable.
    Nuts.

  11. I don’t know what the left’s empathy for the Ukraine is considering Hillary and Obama literally flattened the Middle East…killing and displacing millions and all this while not saying one god damned word. Wassamatter “progressives”…not white enough for you to give a shit? The only thing I can think of is there must be a shitload of gas and oil somewhere to benefit someone.
Now they’re all jiggy about sending billions and weapons to a leader whose claim to fame is playing the piano with his dick and a fake country they wouldn’t be able to point out on a map if their life depended on it.
    Seems about right.
All of you should have I Stand With Raytheon tramp stamps. War whores…everyone of you.
I take a screenshot of every pro war slut on this board. Might come in handy one day when the shtf and it will.

    1. “Wassamatter “progressives”…not white enough for you to give a shit?”

I can’t speak for progressives, but no, I don’t give a shit about turd worlders with anti civilization views in general. Ukrainians are not that so I give a shit. Clear enough cupcake?

    2. “All of you should have I Stand With Raytheon tramp stamps. War whores…everyone of you.”

Agreed. Too many low-information posters here, for sure.

  12. Get the wife to carve out a uni for you on the sewing machine, Hemingway? Make sure there are at least two chevs on the sleeve, wouldn’t want a geo political genius/Ukraine patriot such as yourself to be mistaken for a lowly E1. You are signed up right? No??!!??
Oh right…you’re a sofa soldier, which means others to do the dying for you. Death and destruction are someone else’s problem.

    I can’t speak for progressives,…
Right. Thanks for the p.m. chuckle, Chuckles.

    1. “Oh right…you’re a sofa soldier, which means others to do the dying for you. Death and destruction are someone else’s problem.”

Yup. Colonialista, Allan S, UnMe, a couple of others not even important enough to remember their names…every one of them willing to support this fight TO THE LAST DEAD UKRAINIAN. Sick pieces of sh*t, all of them. May they rot in Hell.

      1. Oh you great humanitarian, if only you could help speed up the orc genocide of Ukrainians. I bet you would be especially gentle herding Ukrainians into torture chambers, you’d make sure that the kidnapped children will go to truest russian families, you’d even provide lube to would be rape victims.

The only thing more vile than an orc are their enablers.
It should open at the right time stamp:
        https://youtu.be/XrGtrdNqOa4?t=23

      2. “TO THE LAST DEAD UKRAINIAN.”

Regurgitating your old lines. What drives Ukrainians is not Western support, not hate, not fear, it is holly rage, and there is not a force in the world that will stop it until the last orc on their soil is turned into fertilizer. Listen to what they have done with Bella Ciao: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xaM3Po3xAqc Orcs have about as much chance against Ukrainians as Santa Anna had against Texans.

        1. Holly rage? What’s that…a Ukraine Christmas thing?
Nice story…brought me to tears, especially the Santa Anna part. *Golf Clap*
Nah, I’m messin’ with ya. I don’t give a shit.
Y’know, It just occurred to me as I sit here in the autumn of my life that the biggest threat to my granddaughters isn’t from external forces like Hitler…PolPot…Mao…Che and other psychopaths.
It’s from domestic assholes like you.

          1. Yup, worrying about Russia, and just another hole the crony capitalists use for deflection and filling their pockets.
Evil under your fking nose and they go on like the West has any legs to stand on.
Have they looked around lately, looked at a kid and thought about their future HERE?
            Fk ……..
Kids don’t even know what rememberace day is except time off. We have been pissing on veterans graves for three years now anyways.
The West is in danger of not coming out of this malaise, cultured by the progs, started long ago.
            And that’s the truth.
            We are weak and lost.

        2. Maybe you should watch the videos of the AFU press gangs dragging men off the street in western Ukraine to send to the front. They don’t feel quite so inclined to fight the Russians as you do. Then again you’re not headed to the front anytime soon are you?

          1. Most of those videos turned out to have been Ukrainians security forces hunting orc collaborators. Others were identified to have been filmed in russia, where press gangs roam and recruitment offices go in flames regularly. In any case Ukrainians conscript very little and mainly from specialized occupations. The numbers of Ukrainian volunteers exceeds their training capability, hence why so many NATO countries are helping.

  13. “Oh you great humanitarian, if only you could help speed up the orc genocide of Ukrainians.”

No, idiot, I’m actually on the side trying to *end* the slaughter…you are the ones trying so hard to perpetuate it. Stop the shooting, and the deaths also stop; keep fighting, and death toll keeps rising…see how that works? You’re welcome.

(LOL at your inappropriate use, once again, of the word ‘genocide’. Don’t ever change…;)

    1. No idiot, you don’t want to end the slaughter, you want Ukrainians to stop resisting the slaughter, the torture, the rape, the russification, the gulag, the child kidnappings, the genocide. Hence the Bad Santa clip linked above.

      1. “No idiot, you don’t want to end the slaughter, you want Ukrainians to stop resisting the slaughter, the torture, the rape, the russification, the gulag, the child kidnappings, the genocide. ”

What part of “negotiated ceasefire” confuses you, exactly? You understand that the end of hostilities applies to *both* parties, right?

Get help, before you go right off the deep end. You are barely even coherent at this point.

        1. “What part of “negotiated ceasefire” confuses you, exactly? ”

The one when you negotiate with a rapist horde to stop raping people they have under their control. There is no negotiations with orcs until you have a boot on their necks and a bayonet pressing into their ear. And in that case it is best to just press it harder than to talk.

Besides the reality is that russia will not recover in its current form this war. Russia is drowning and needs to be thrown an anchor and preferably some depth charges with it. It is a historical opportunity to destroy the whore once and for all. And that at a minimal cost.

The ceasefire would give orcs a lifeline, a limited ability to rearm and regroup. Contrary to your delusional opinions, it is orcs that have their backs to the wall now and it would be a disaster for Ukrainians to stop pressing.

Basically, all your opinions and assessments are wrong because you’re both an idiot and a scumbag.

  14. This war will end like the vaccines. At first truth weeped slowly out of the cracks., then it began to ooze out out, still slow, but that ooze panicked the swarm. They doubled and tripled down, you must obey, “safe & effective”, repeat the mantra, get your boosters. But at some point the pubic said no. Were not going to vaccinate our children. We’re not getiing any more boosters.

The same thing will happen with Ukraine. We dont want to send any more weapons or money to this black hole of death and corruption.

    1. Good point. It’s not so much I’ve become isolationist – I’ve just lost any confidence in the West going in and getting anything done. I’ve seen this too many times before.
Sure, I hope Russia is pushed back, but I hope Europe shapes up and does it.
As evidenced thorough various posters above, the most vocal supporters are doing it for ethnocultural reasons. I don’t care about these tribal feuds and I find it suspicious that both sides of the political spectrum are howling mad for this conflict.
That alone should make any rational person suspicious.
