The one sided ledger

With an allegedly conservative government fervently committed to economic suicide, who needs Labour? I thought that the UK went for Brexit precisely to avoid this kind of nonsense. Oh well…..

Considering that we haven’t heard from him for a long time, did Stephane Dion morph into a UK Tory politician?

The UK has set a legally binding target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, as part of the global effort to avert the worst effects of climate change.

Calling net zero “the growth opportunity of the 21st century”, Mr Skidmore says the UK “must move quickly” and decisively to reap the economic benefits of achieving the target.

“We have heard from businesses that economic opportunities are being missed today because of weaknesses in the UK’s investment environment – whether that be skills shortages or inconsistent policy commitment,” Mr Skidmore writes.

“Moving quickly must include spending money. We know that investing in net zero today will be cheaper than delaying, as well as increasing the economic and climate benefits.”

  1. Mr. Prime Minister, we must not allow a net zero gap…………..Misquote of General ‘Buck’ Turgidson…

  2. Net Zero is a moving goal-post. So a legally binding target is one thing. What qualifies as a target offset is another. This post will move.

  3. So what’s the plan Comrade? Start building a few dozen more Nukes starting tomorrow or follow the energy poverty green brick road to suicidal oblivion while China erases your entire effort every16 months. Given the reality of the enormity of delusion that has come with suicidal levels of energy ignorance, you have two choices, mass murder or continue with fossil fuels until they become too expensive and or the Eloi learn about energy density and opt to go nuclear.

  4. How could Net Zero possibly be a growth opportunity?
Its effect is going to be systemic collapse and the dawn of a Sinocolonial age because the chicoms are just paying lipservice to it.

    1. It’s a terrific opportunity for rent seeking (consultants, pseudo-green energy proponents, scammers and grifters), poverty-pimping bureaucrats, realtors, foreclosure and bankruptcy accountants and lawyers, for a while.

  5. As timing would have it, I had just finished sending an email to my provincial minister of “crown corporations” (in Saskatchewan) when I opened your blog and saw this post. My response to him was due to a reply from an earlier query on SMRs. In his response he brought up the provincial goal of NetZero by 2050 (Yes the same net zero as your post refers to). I can only wonder who is serving the kool-aid that these people are drinking. My suggestion for him was that he get all proponents of NetZero to live under the consequences immediately. Allow them the lower costs of wind and solar along with the reduced reliability. Require them to use only electrical generation for all their power needs. And when the wind does not blow, not the sun shine, let them huddle in a corner to keep warm, or run to a root cellar to keep cool.

  6. The Ontario Liberal government, at the urging of Canada’s “Green” Rasputin (Gerald Butts), passed the Green Energy Act in Feb. 2009. The government and its supporters said all the same things that the U.K. conservatives are saying today, 14 years later. Not surprisingly, the “Green Energy” ideologues and their supporters throughout the mainstream media do not want anybody to ask what happened in Ontario after 2009. This is why:

“On January 1, 2019, Ontario repealed the act—one month before its 10th anniversary. The 50,000 guaranteed jobs never materialized. The “decolonization” of energy did not work out. One-third of indigenous Ontarians now live in energy poverty—their electricity bills more than doubled during the life of the act, making their electricity costs among the highest in North America. Its promises turned out to be false, and the actual results made people’s lives worse.”

That above was the # 1 reason for us to Leave Barrie in 2010.
Abject Idiocy…including the supposed SMART meters.

      1. The film is definitely worthwhile which means it has been effectively buried by the mainstream media since it reveals many facts the Greenies want to keep hidden..

  7. The UK is no longer democratic in any way, shape, or form. The “markets,” whatever they mean by that, runs it. They proved that when they ran Truss out as quickly as they did. Same as Canada, the big five banks run the government, the people are just inconvenient annoyances.

  8. A bad idea but 1) the EU had nothing to do with this and 2) not necessarily economic suicide. Just build all the nuclear plants you can.

  9. Thank you for thinking of the polar bears.
Thank you for not being selfish like most rightwingers who will not give up their fridges, stoves, trucks, and REFUSE to live in environmentally friendly mud huts!

  10. All “net-zero” plans will have net zero effect on the climate, but will result in net zero jobs, and net zero growth

    1. The public sector will continue to expand in numbers as it has done dramatically in Canada over the last three years. Public sector employment now represents 25% of those employed in Canada. Government employees will never let the politicians they elect/ control (always Liberal and NDP) lay off any of them.

  11. At this point, you can really only shake your head and sigh.

Carbon dioxide is the foundation of all life on earth, and the planet is currently starved for it.

    Bunch of brainwashed morons.

  12. I guess not being able to hand monopolies your friends is a missed opportunity for some.. High level snake oil and all that stuff.. Face it, your? national government has created another level of government above themselves.. The UN.. They have to move quickly to enrich themselves because every CON is time sensitive.. Whatever :(..

It hardly matters what hyena eats your carcass when they are all laughing at you..

  13. Gang Green is exactly that.
A disease that spread through out its host, killing them in the most painful and ghastly manner.
    One, Gangrene, kills individuals.
The other,Gang Green, whole populations of people.
C.A.G.E is our only hope,we must amputate the infected bodies.
For while they will all deny that they are the disease, they always destroy the communities that they infest.

  14. Only if “growth opportunities” mandate the death of millions. The funereal business is booming!

  15. Net zero can never be legally binding as it is a physical impossibility. Play all the games they want, CO2 is not a pollutant or climate driver. Everyone on the planet could die tomorrow and net zero will still not happen.
