RIP Burt Bacharach

Early on, Bacharach had horses with Whittingham. The best being Advance Guard, a Stakes Winner, but Mirlivam and Bdashed could run some as well. Bacharach wasn’t Charlie’s favorite type of owner. Whittingham thought owners should be treated like mushrooms — kept in the dark and covered with manure. Bacharach used to make surprise visits to the barn in the mornings and soon advised Whittingham that maybe one of his underachievers needed to be wormed. Charlie, noting a lack of recent hits, advised Bacharach to worm his piano. – via TB acquaintance Curtis W.

  1. One of those guys that when you looked them up we’re surprised to find that they were still alive

I think that he brought to life the old adage that success is 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration

  2. (There’s) Always something there to remind me. RIP Mr. B.
As a totally unsuccessful songwriter, I admire the heck out of Bacharach and David.

  3. Thanks everyone for the Burt Bacharach and Hal David links from yesterday’s Reader’s Tips. Enjoyed them.
Can’t be too sad, 94 is damn good. The only thing that is discouraging is as these greats go, we’re (sic) replacing them with Lizzos and Sam Smiths. Horrible to listen to let alone look at.

      All the “entertainment” worth missing…

    2. Isn’t that the truth …

From: One Less Bell to Answer … to Wet Ass Pussy and Unholy. As a Rock enthusiast, I am all for “edgy” and love “Prog. Rock” … but we’ve gone from musical pornography to music snuff videos.

  4. I’m a fan of Marilyn McCoo and One Less Bell. Could never figure out why they made her pretend she is playing guitar?

Bert Bacharach was a genuine talent. Andrew Lloyd Webber not so much.

  5. The picture in the linked article, I’d like to know the story about the jacket Bacharach is wearing.
Crossed hockey sticks and a puck on the front.

    1. I didn’t realize BB wrote Wives and Lovers. Jack Jones is an under rated singer. Does a great job on W&L – jazz waltz.
