A baffling mystery….

When startling numbers of bird cuisinarts unexpectedly collapse, it’s really not that much of a mystery. Highly subsidized systems that have to be force-fed capital from reluctant investors are bound to have these outcomes. It’s a feature, not a bug, of central planning.

Wind turbine failures are on the rise, from Oklahoma to Sweden and Colorado to Germany, with all big three manufacturers admitting the race to create larger turbines has caused manufacturing problems, according to a report by Bloomberg.

The pressure to produce larger wind turbines has accelerated production of the attachments. Bloomberg reports that Siemens experienced quality control issues on a new design, Vestas experienced project delays and quality issues, and GE experienced an increase in warranty costs and repairs.

I know there are a host of other problems with this worthless “technology” but all it took for me (a windmill lover) was seeing the Dirty Jobs episode where Mike Rowe went to a wind turbine to do maintenance. Yeah, green jobs yay! but the maintenance and how the guys described what they were doing showed this is not sustainable by any definition. Constantly having to clean up the (fossil fuel) oil that allows these things to run. It’s all fiction. After all, everyone loves a windmill!

  2. Not that baffling, when you consider how complex the blades are, and the bigger you get, the more internal joints you end up having, along with needing much bigger ovens to cook them in… if they aren’t done evenly then you’ll end up with stresses outside of what the models predict.

  3. I’m wondering if we have fatigue weakening of the windmill mast?

    Perhaps coupled with UV damage to the composite materials used in construction?

  4. Easy peasy.. The cost of building them properly would make the business plan even less attractive.. The idea is to sell the stupid things so you can cash the check, change your name and do it again.. They are competing with dirt (coal) after all.. As in cheap as..

    Politicians are sticking their necks out with our money.. Some sort of value must be included in the process.. Not so much cutting corners as building them to lower specifications.. A few days or weeks of border line high winds where shutting them down AGAIN is not politically expedient..

    Government kind of sucks.. Just as the person running the manufacturing plant in China will keep the line running even if they are missing parts.. Their careers depend on it.. Our green grifters are in the same boat..

    Save the world with cheap crap or build them properly for double the cost.. You get what you pay for..

  5. This should be no surprise to the designers. This is not new technology, it is basic mechanical engineering. Everything can be modeled and predicted.
    The ability to make mechanical devices last virtually forever is not new. Look up the Kingsbury thrust bearing used in hydroelectric plants. The original ran about 70 years without wear. I visited the Holtwood Hydroelectric plant in Pennsylvania on the anniversary of the bearing. That was around 1985.
    The modern day windmills are either designed by idiots or they are designed to fail.

  6. You’d think that Northern Californians … of all people … would KNOW BETTER about wind energy. 14,000 idle windmills littering Altamont Pass … deader than a Rolling Stones concertgoer. Every commute over that graveyard of windmills should have made the Silicon Valley workers wise to the futility of 1970’s era ollllld technology. They should have learned these contraptions only function was to mine government subsidies.

    But it appears as your highly educated, Californian “betters” … thought it would be different this time. Huh? Kinda like Socialism.

    Those 14,000 wind turbines lying idle in California’s Altamont Pass, Tehachapin, and San Gorgonio areas and elsewhere around the world are testimony to the continuing and accelerating failure of hope over experience, funded with taxpayer monies. And these areas were selected as being “in the best wind spots on earth,” which are now, according to Natural News writer Jonathan Benson, just “spinning, post-industrial junk which generates nothing but bird kills.”

    Once those taxpayer funds are withdrawn, the real economics of maintaining these expensive monstrosities are so overpoweringly negative that they are left to rot — skeletons proving the fraud and deceit of the whole global warming meme. As James Delingpole, the author of Watermelon: The Green Movement’s True Colors, noted during an interview with Lew Rockwell last November:

    Wind farms do not generate electricity on any commercially competitive level. The only reason that wind farms can survive is through government subsidy, which is … stolen from the taxpayer and funneled into the pockets of rent-seeking businessmen.

  7. To be anywhere near economically viable (by standards that ignores life cycle return on energy), they must be marginally unstable. The towers can’t be guyed due to the necessity of multi-direction wind capture so must be stable enough for resisting strong winds on blades that must feather off with winds that exceed their design limits. Chasing the weak links in design can be costly. The result is expensive grid parasites.

  8. Windmills were good for grinding grain, but they are not the sort of technology one would expect could provide massive amounts of electricity to 8 BILLION CUSTOMERS.
