A travel nightmare is unfolding right now on Amtrak. Passengers on the Auto Train have been stuck on board for 29+ hours, currently sitting in the woods in rural South Carolina. Passengers called the local police saying they’re being held hostage.
They did finally make it to Florida .
37 hours late? So they still beat their family members who drove the Tesla …

Unfortunately with the “Auto” train, your vehicle is with you on the train and has to be unloaded at a proper unloading facility……..
2.5 hours to fly, 12 hours to drive, and 19.5 hours to take the train normally.
Of course, Amtrak should have just stopped at whatever station is closest, and waited there, instead of a siding in the middle of no where
The train operators are regulated as to how many hours they can “work”.
Once they’re at that point, they can no longer legally operate / move a train.
The train company Amtrak, hadn’t sent replacements. Part of me hopes they were sent by train as well…

I’m well versed in the Hour of Service regulations for railroads. The new transport canada hour of service regulations are going to make some engineers and conductors very unhappy when they find out they are limited to 300 hours of OT per year.
Given that Amtrak rerouted the train, and might be able to do basic math, stopping the train at a station makes more sense than stopping at a siding, and trying to find a replacement crew off the normal route and change locations.
The trip takes up to 3 operating crews already, so you could expect relief to show up at some point, but probably in the wrong place and then having to travel via cab to where the train is.

If an ETS bus were to maybe get high-centered in say Musidora or Marlboro there would likely only be two on board counting the driver!
And 2 few people would give a damn.
And this is the “Auto” train, where your vehicle is loaded onto the train and travels with you to your destination where it is then unloaded for your enjoyment.
They can just drive there quicker…..
