Endless meddling

Canada’s newest central planner claims to have a real “passion” for, well, central planning. But this time, we are assured, the planning will work.

I have a concern: since I subscribe to Acorn TV precisely to watch British shows, is the CRTC going to force them to carry Canadian content? Doesn’t that undermine the whole reason that I watch Acorn in the first place?

Eatrides said in a brief conversation with the National Post Monday that she will look to make a tangible difference for Canadians, indicating a focus that includes lowering prices.

She said people should expect “somebody who’s really focused on and concerned about Canadians. So really, that that’s where my head is at.”

“I really want Canadians to be able to say, OK, what has the CRTC done for me?”

In reality, she probably doesn’t want people to ask that last question.

  1. “I really want Canadians to be able to say, OK, what has the CRTC done for me?”

And I’m sure her deputies will insure she only sees the positive responses

  2. The Communist Radio Television Commission has done nothing for Canadians other than the former TV executives that take over.

  3. The CRTC has done nothing but deny people what they want since its inception. One of the purist forms of bovine excrement, kind of like the CSA – arms length Crown entities consisting of industrial meddlers covering and protecting their own posteriors and gleaning as much wealth as they can grab. And that is why we pay the highest prices in the entire world for cell service, as an example (fact, not fiction).

    1. Codex

      ….and Dairy
      ….amd Airlines

      Monopolies all.
There is no such thing as competition in Canada, never was…all designed (incl. The country itself), to Enrich the East at the expense of the West.

Long Overdue for us out west to say adios mofo’s…

    2. I live in Mexico. Cell phone costs $13 per month; unlimited talk and text to Canada, the US and Mexico. High speed fiber optic internet, $40 per month. Amazon firestick for TV; $85 to purchase outright, numerous free and paid apps for movies, live and archived TV shows worldwide. No commercials.
What has the CRTC done for me lately; what did they ever do!

  4. She said people should expect “somebody who’s really focused on and concerned about Canadians. So really, that that’s where my head is at.”

pathological altruism? in this government? c’est incroyable.

  5. I watch the CBC only for the British programming. I enjoy “Call the Midwife”; Escape to the Chateau”; and “Escape to the Country”. Cannot be bothered with anything else.

    1. Same here. Love Endeavour, Helen Mirren in her series, New Tricks, All creatures Great and Small….

    2. I flatly refuse to give MotherCorpse either an intertoob click or a second of TV watch time, no matter what they may say/play. May they rot in hell forever.

  6. Next up, book burning. There will be a new Ministry of Pure Thoughts whose mandate will be to ensure there is no misinformation or impure thoughts in any written materials available to Canadians… all for the common good. Canadians will gratefully embrace this new program as sources say that most people under 50 are afraid to pick up a book for fear of being offended or shocked. The PM said today, that since very few people read paper books, all but those used for child sex education will be better used to supply renewable energy.

    1. What Justin meant to say is that HE doesn’t read books.

I certainly do and will fight anyone who comes after my books.

  7. “I really want Canadians to be able to say, OK, what has the CRTC done for me?”
That’s funny…she doesn’t even realize what she is saying. Doesn’t exaclty make one’s confidence level rise.

  8. She is nothing more than an unelected bureaucrat who has no idea what she is doing but does like the idea of being a well-paid bully.

  9. Screw MSM in all it’s iterations.

Cut the Chord. And viewing freedom will be yours. Watch what you want – when you want without commercial interruption…all the while saving yourself over 100/mo.

    What’s not to like…??
R ya really gonna miss that daily hour of MSM lies – Propaganda – BS and continuing exhortations to take a 7th booster or the now, VERY suspect flu shot..?? All for the “privilege”of paying ~170.00 a month for NETWORK NEWS..??

Do it…you will not regret it evah..!!

  10. I understand how funding things nobody watches works.. Hello, CBC.. I have no idea how you create demand with federal oversight.. IMO the Feds are just putting them all on welfare.. Move over CBC, everybody wants 1.3 billion a year..

I put no thought into Canadian content.. Its only noticeable when it bad.. Take one for the home team when better offerings exist?..
Oh boy, I can hardly wait to not pay for that..

  11. But what if it is the “Canadian content” you are trying to get away from?

It’s bad enough we have to watch and pay people on the CBC spout off the talking points they receive from Katie telford……..now we have to pay for it twice.

Most Canadian content on the “news” is just crap propaganda. The Liberals are just trying to make sure their lies are everywhere a voter’s eyes may end up.

  12. I suggest you get a Star-Link now before they are banned, it may be a temporary stay before the storm troopers come knocking. Just like those who had US satellite tv in the 80’s before the government granted Bell and others sole distribution in Canada.
Canada’s legislation and governance on most areas of enterprise is simply to allow their friends to repackage foreign products, place a maple leaf stamp on it and call it Canadian while their buddies get rich. This allows them to cushion their future once their political gig is up. Canada has been hollowed out by this type of protectionist legislation, our forefathers would be appalled.
I will go without before I will buy into this crap, besides there are several work arounds available.
