Vimy Memorial is quite impressive. Worth a visit.
Also they have restored a section of the Canadian front lines. And you can go into some of the tunnels behind the Canadian lines. Lots of carvings in the chalk rock by Canadian soldiers.
There is also a 16″ shell buried under approx 30 feet of soil. They found it when they were restoring the tunnels. Apparently Royal Marine Engineers removed the shell. It was replace by a dummy and cemented back into place. You can see it at the end of an abandoned tunnel.
The names of over 11000 Canadian soldiers with no known grave are inscribed around the base of the monument. Walking around the monument gives a new perspective on how many 11,000 is
Yes, I’m very glad I saw Vimy, it is most impressive and moving. If you’re ever anywhere near, don’t miss it.
Probably 10 or 15 nice buildings and the rest are pretty awful. In my humble opinion.
Wonderful viewing. Like modern art you can see architecture slowly going to hell starting around the seventies. “Dancing House” in Prague…seriously, what the hell is that all about? It’s like they’re not even trying anymore.
Anyways, I enjoyed the trip. Thanks.

Definitely an inclusive selection.
