  1. A friend near New Glasgow, NS texted this morning:

“worst damage i have ever seen… worse than Juan and white Juan. Lots of very large trees torn out by the roots and snapped 10-12″ trees 6 feet up in half

power to be out till wednesday ish

we have gen running 30min on 2 hours off to conserve fuel”

No texts since. I read somewhere that much of the cell service is out.

    1. Hope your friend is doing ok. I think your grind is right on the hen run: 30min/2h probably to get the freezer/fridge going. I’ll add that t my prep book.

Cheers, and let your friend know, when you get back in touch, that many of us out west are praying and rooting for them!!

  2. Lots of family and friends in NB, NS and PEI are living off the grid for a while. I read this morning that 95% of Islanders had no power and 410,000 blue nosers were without power. Gerald Butts must be orgasmic this evening. Lots of trees and telephone poles are down but not too many buildings damaged except where trees fell on a roof or two.

    1. Get ClimateMarmot the EnviroWhacko off to NFLD for a week so he can try off grid living for a week . Try out his policy results.

  3. In Torbay just north of St John’s. Windy but that’s pretty much normal for here. No damage I’m aware of.

  4. It was by far the worst storm to hit NS, in my life time. The winds were out of this world, lost power for 13 hours, lost roof shingles, ripped the down spout screws and all off the house. It rained so hard it was like you were trapped in the washing machine. Trees down every where, power poles flattened like twigs. I lived in NFL, they know wind, and it would of scared the bejesus out of those hardy souls. Clean up is going to be a while, I hope Justine does the right thing and sends in the army to help with clean up.

    1. Unless you are really young Rose, I must disagree. It may have been the worst storm to hit Eastern NS, but in Halifax, Juan was much worse. Lost power for 12 hours, and every third property or so has a damaged or down tree, during Juan it was 5 days and virtually every property. Juan was compact and made a direct hit on Halifax, Fiona was much wider and hit in the Straight of Canso area, so certainly worse there, better here.

      1. Agreed. Juan hit Halifax dead on. Fiona passed us by 100 miles or more. Cape Breton was in the bullseye this time so I imagine it’s a lot rougher up there.

  5. Well, on my street(small town of Bathurst, north east of NB), most of the apples on my neighbour’s apple tree were shook to the ground.
