With all the controversy about gain-of-function research and all the concerns about how dangerous it is, you might think that scientists have stopped doing that kind of work.
Well, no.
In the latest news, a team of scientists in Canada and the U.S. report that they have re-created the 1918 influenza virus and used it to infect macaques. Let’s be clear here: the 1918 flu vanished from the Earth, long ago. It’s simply not a threat, or it least it wasn’t, until someone figured out a way to bring it back.
I simply cannot fathom how educated persons could imagine a reason to resurrect long dead viruses.
“Gain of function” is pathologically evil. The only rationale I can imagine is to develop new harmful and more powerful bio weapons to release onto the current civilization. And my tax dollars are helping to bring these to reality.
Almost like a hemp farmer weaving his own strong rope that he knows will be used at his own hanging!

Look no further than the past two years. Governments the world over have achieved a level of tyranny they did not think possible.
Imagine what another virus might do when people grow tired of Covid.

It’s not reassuring that this research is being done at the university of Manitoba. The university and Trudeau Liberal government are still blocking an investigation into the recent serious breach by Chinese scientists at this Manitoba lab.
“The Liberal government breached parliamentary privileges by failing to provide secret documents to the House that would explain the firing of two scientists from Canada’s top infectious disease lab in Winnipeg, House of Commons Speaker Anthony Rota ruled on Wednesday.
On June 2, opposition MPs outvoted the Liberal minority government to pass a motion that would force the government to give the House’s Special Committee on Canada-China Relations unredacted documents that contain details on why two federal scientists were fired from the National Microbiology Laboratory.
The Trudeau government refused to comply, saying it would give uncensored records only to the National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians.”

Once again I ask, is there any Canadian institutions left that have not been corrupted by the Trudeau Liberal/NDP coalition government?
In a word, no.
Connie Willis used something like this as a plot device in her excellent time-travel novel “Doomsday Book.” Archaeological researchers accidentally unearth a burial plot from medieval Britain which releases a dormant flu strain that ravages present-day populations. A lot of the panic surrounding the ‘Vid was a part of the plot of that book, too.
It’s one of the best SF/spec-fic books I’ve ever read, and there are others by Willis in the same “time traveling Oxford historians” milieu.
It’s ego. The competition between peers in the scientific community is like a room full of pre-adolescent girls. They want to get published. They want other scientists to gush over their achievements. As the author points out, there is no reasonable reason to identify and publish the complete genome for Spanish Flu other than for bragging rights.
Incidentally, the eventual exploratory trek that led to the discovery of an obese woman possessing what the team needed was financed by the Veteran’s Administration and the US Department of Defense.
Want a little shiver down your spine. Read the book “Ninth Day of Creation.” Gosh, what’s it about? Oh, just about a fictional biotech company that recreates the Spanish Flu by identifying its entire genome. Try to overlook the naval combat between the US and China…that could never happen either.
Hubris, yes? Pride goes before a fall.

Assuming that the biotech boffins are actually privy to the eventual purpose of their well funded research is an unreasonable conclusion.
Everything in the controlled “news” involving viruses is absolute BS. Viruses are solvents produced naturally by the body as a last resort to fight off infection. This could be from bacteria, mold, metals, or other toxins.
Vaccines are various poisons injected into the body, under the lie that they are helpful in fighting against evil viruses.
The Coronahoax and the Spanish “Flu” share one thing in common – they are pure fiction. The Spanish “Flu” didn’t harm a soul until the controlled media and governments started frightening the populace and strong-arming them to take the “cure”. The immediate damage caused by the vaccines was then blamed on the non-existent threat.
The same playbook is being used today by the same organizations.
The real game being played is transhumanism, which requires victims to be loaded up with no shortage of nanotechnologies (such as hydrogel) to prime them for the final solution. A micro needle patch injection will complete the human programming to the new digitally-controlled humans. All mind-controlled through the recently pushed 5G technologies into every major center, and using blockchain cryptocurrency technology. Making them slaves to their overlords forever, with zero risk of revolution or even a peep of opposition. Working not for money and a brighter future, but for credits for food and entertainment. Given so long as they do what they’re told to do.
Of course untold millions will die in the process, but that is an acceptable figure to the scum behind this plan.
And stories like this will be pushed out now and then to get people pointlessly arguing about idiocy, like bioweapons labs in China.
