  1. Interesting. I would like to know how “subsidies” are defined and if the same definition applies for each energy source. I know here we are always hearing about how the government provides subsidies to the oil & gas industry when – so far as I can discern – said “subsidies” are mainly tax “breaks” similar to those given to other industries.

    1. The big subsidy for O&G as I see it is the ability to expense the well after you drill it. The other “big subsidy” is the value they assign to the pollution effects in the industry. I don’t see them doing this to any other industry (attributing all the pollution costs of O&G and assigning to the companies as a subsidy) but then this stuff isn’t real anyway.

The Russians just shut down an oil pipeline in Eastern Europe. That is real.

    2. depends on who is doing the defining.

Oil and Gas exploration is allowed under the tax code to take “Accelerated Depreciation” which allows them to depreciate equipment, permits and other costs as they are purchased rather than over time. If you are a watermelon, you would claim this is an “Oil and Gas Subsidy” and should be eliminated, but would have the net effect of driving most small players out of business because they can’t afford to wait 20 years to recover the cost of their equipment and consumables, especially when they hit dry holes.

This is different than where Wind and Solar were given multiple subsidies in the form of enhanced price support, and contracts that required their power to be purchased first, before even baseload power such as nuclear or hydro, as well as government cash and enhanced financing.

    3. The BIG LIE … is when the CAGW’ists define Tax write offs for new plant and equipment, and exploration costs as .. “subsidies”. Utter nonsense.

  2. And those receiving government subsidies keep pushing “the science” of Climate Catastrophe by paying to get more of “the science” confirmed by “experts”.
Its a virtuous green circle of government narrative/subsidized science.

    Always Follow The Money.

  3. If Solar is subsidized at 82% it means that only 18% of the energy comes from the sun, the rest comes from tax payers.( I know it is a bit more complex than that but if you have functioning brain you get my point)

    1. SOLAR.
Well, if ya put the entire population into 32′ RV’s, w/ 400 watts of solar, a good 2500 Watt inverter, 6 or 8 6 Volt batts and put em ALL in the Arizona Deserts…?? as for large Industrial scale – nothing but blatant SCAMs to take CAD/USD from taxpayers. Not one of those supposed Solar farms produces anything remotely useful. See Medicine Hat for classic Example or any one of the massive setups in Kalifornia.

As for Industrial scale Wind..?? Another pile of utter BS.
….and how long did they continue with the Feed in Tariffs..?? Long enough to ensure their buddies ended up with fat wallets….regardless of country it was installed in. A quick look while close to Pincher Creek, Ab and the some 1200 mills there. 95% at a COMPLETE stand still on ANY GIVEN DAY. Thanks to that Communist clunt Notley. Give it another 15 yrs and they’ll all start burning up or simply shutting down…and left to Rot. If you need to know what that looks like..?? Have a gander at Old Palm Springs.

Wind has not and will NEVER ever BE, self sustaining or profitable. The most colossal pile of BULLSHIT ever put on (Prior to Covid)…ever. The only folks who made Wind “profitable” were the Dutch/Danes from the 1300’s up to the early 1900’s using them to pump out water, and mill grain.

      You want power mate.?
Coal – Gas – OIL – Nuke: Period.
      ….now piss off laddie

  4. The hydro companies are figuring this out. In Ontario (at least) they are splitting the cost of electricity into usage and delivery fees (the right to usage), each one being priced separately. Unless you go completely off-grid you have no incentive to reduce your electricity usage because they still charge you the delivery fees.

Regardless of subsidies to individuals, the hydro companies will still get their pound of flesh.

  5. And precisely why I look at oil companies who constantly tout their “green energy investments” with a jaundiced eye.
“investments in renewables” is another word for “gov’t subsidy harvesting” in my opinion.
    Grifters.
Further – Imagine the gov’t arbitrarily hiking the price via carbon taxes on a product you produce and sell to the public…how is it that I never hear a squawk of protest from these corporate whores???
Have you visited GreenPeace Suncor’s hompage lately? Big news I guess…Martha Hall Findlay is their new “Chief Climate Officer”. *Golf clap*
