July 26, 2022: Reader Tips

I’ve long thought that advertising myself as a “Divorce Photographer” is a brilliant idea but Canadian comedian Ryan Long has a different entrepreneurial idea: Male Escort / Travel Guide.  Clearly he needs to work on his pitch.

Your best news tips or billion dollar venture ideas are much appreciated!

You really think Stephen Harper is less well
        regarded than Prime Minister Blackface?

        *

        1. With the help of the CBC and the other Trudeau-paid professional liars… abso-freaking-lutely!

Harper has been sold as Trump-lite to the ignoramuses and hate-filled leftarded voters of Canada for years now.

      2. Not after Trudeau. I think many people now miss the stability and good sense we had under the Harper government. Much of the anti- Harper sentiment was media driven and has now dissipated.

    1. One WEF member endorsing another WEF member? I know, I know… Pierre disavowed the WEF, but then, conservative members, just who are you sending your ballots to? Ask yourself “who’s counting the votes!” Hmmm…

      Here’s a hint: https://ipolitics.ca/news/deloitte-declines-to-clarify-role-in-conservative-leadership-vote
Yes, I know… 2017, but the same firm is involved in 2022’s leadership race. I saw the ballot return envelope.
So? Well, Deloitte is connected with the WEF. Shocked yet? I’m not.

PP talks a good game, but my overall impression is that he’s a little slick for my taste. So I’m raising the red flag on Pierre. Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer! Having said that, PP as PM would be a far better outcome than the current lying, stealing, corrupt government we have today led by the turd.

On a side note, in the latest poll for preferred leader, JC has closed the gap immensely with PP. I don’t think we’re going to see a first-ballot coronation here, and dare I say, prepare yourselves for a possible upset. Now having said that, I don’t want some of the clowns out there to think for a second that I’m endorsing JC. I still think that the best possible outcome for the CPC is PP (with a possible second being LL), but what I’m also suggesting is that we watch PP like a hawk. I simply do not trust him.

“PP talks a good game, but my overall impression is that he’s a little slick for my taste.”

        AGREED.

        I voted for Roman B.
        2nd choice: Leslyn
        3rd Choice: Pierre

As for the rest of field..??
        Liberal Garbage in disguise

      2. John Baird…..PP’s campaign manager, is a full fledged public member of WEF.

        Their tentacles are everywhere.

That said, Charest is a joke, and would be the third blunder in a row for the Cons, if he were to succeed. Kind of fitting, if that’s the outcome, eh wot? It would be a great outcome for MAX.

      3. “One WEF member endorsing another WEF member? ”

You’re right, it is best to let Potato to stay in power, what’s the worst that can happen?

the movie The Grifters was mentioned and I just finished watching it.

It stars Anjelica Huston (director John’s daughter), Jon Cusak (back when he still made decent movies and before he went all anti-Trump and SJW), and Annette Bening (who get nekkid a few times). The cast also includes a number of recognizable character actors, including Pat Hingle, J. T. Walsh, Charles Napier, and Xander Berkeley.

Some reviewers on IMDB consider it a film noir, but I don’t think it quite fits the bill. Usually, in the end, the baddies get their respective comeuppances and that didn’t happen in this flick, at least not for all of them. The movie’s OK for the first half, but I thought it fell down during the remainder.

It’s directed by Stephen Frears, who also made My Beautiful Laundrette, Dangerous Liasons, and Gumshoe (featuring Albert Finney).

  2. I’m killing beer tonight. Several beers in, my friend messages me, and we ended up going to refill water containers. Came back, more beer. Last week I ran 12 km to the next town and back….just to let you know….

Anyway, when I drink enough beer, I end up streaming ‘Star Trek Voyager’ episodes….specifically ‘Year of Hell’ and the series finale. And the Stargate SG1 series finale “Unending” was also one of the best finales ever.

And check out ‘Freaks’ with Lexi Kolker.

  3. Tour guide/male escort….. It sounds like something that a certain prime minister might do after he leaves office….. if he leaves office…..

    1. I like her comment that the entire dog and pony show is about nothing else than Prinz Dummkopf conveying the image that even the Bishop of Rome is accountable to him. Since the latter’s boss is God Himself, what does that make HRH, eh?

It’s all an exercise in delusion and power. Maggie must be so proud of him……

    2. I can honestly say that I don’t GAF about this show biz tour of the visitor from Rome and whatever the wampum brigade, and the Mediots are saying.
This is nothing but acting and posturing.
Have made extra efforts to not watch anything related to this, except with the sound off, if by accident.
It’s actually pretty funny with the sound off, watching grown walk around wearing dresses and feathers.
One pretending to be “god on earth”, and the others pretending to be “caretakers of the earth”
      SHOW BIZ.
When do the grifters demand their millions, or is that a back room task?

      1. Only once the dog-and-pony apology tour is over, and the indigenous folk decide they’ve humiliated the pope enough, does this issue get down to the real stage: the demands for reparation. The only thing remaining to decide is how many zeros can fit after the ‘one’ on the cheque.

  4. I can’t remember the author, but there was a scifi short story aeons ago that mentioned a ‘divorce cake’!!! It was black (chocolate?) and had the bridal figures with their backs to each other at either end of it…!!!

After the amicable ‘divorce party’ (which, even then, I felt presumed a lot) the formerly married persons went off with their new partners… Which also presumes a lot!!!

    1. Larry Niven in “What Can You Say About Chocolate Covered Manhole Covers?”

      1. Danke!!! I kept thinking it could be Alan Dean Foster, but I wasn’t sure…

Most of my favourite scifi authors are either dead, writing with someone else, no longer writing, or corrupted… Examining the shelves of one of the few remaining scifi bookshops here is disheartening nowadays…

Nice star system, by the way!!!

    1. So Pat is a woman!
      And fat and ugly…
The last time Pat saw some bratwurst she was in Germany…Hans was just trying to keep warm, the poor bastard.
      Take care Pat!

    2. True, beauty is only skin deep. But why do pro killing baby females, cant presume they are women, have so much skin and why is it so thick?

    1. community organizer

In industry, we used to call people like that “s**t disturbers”.

    2. I’m surprised. As mayor, she might actually have to do some work. Might lose her clothing allowance.

  5. Probably posted here before, the Institute for the Study of War.
    https://www.understandingwar.org/

    https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/russian-offensive-campaign-assessment-july-24

“Moscow Calling notably defined the arrival of HIMARS as a distinct turning point in the war and stated that previously provided Western weapons systems (such as NLAWs, Javelins, Stingers, and Bayraktars) did very little against Russian artillery bombardment (they are not designed or intended to counter artillery attack), but that HIMARS changed everything for Russian capabilities in Ukraine.[8] Moscow Calling strongly insinuated that recent Ukrainian strikes on Russian warehouses, communication hubs, and rear bases are having a devastating and potentially irreversible impact on the development of future Russian offensives.[9]”

    1. What’s fascinating is that they have achieved this with originally eight, then twelve HIMARS plus a few of M270s. I think real numbers are actually higher but not by an order of magnitude. War seems to be entering phase four. Both sides are learning (russians are slower). We will see what will be next. It will be a fascinating conflict to study in decades to come.

  6. I don’t know why I laughed, it’s not funny at all. Really. Making fun of women who are protesting in favour of abortion. What is funny about that?

    https://www.businessinsider.com/matt-gaetz-abortion-susan-b-anthony-disgusting-2022-7

One of GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz’s chief lines of attack against abortion rights activists is that they’re ugly, unlikely to get pregnant themselves, and even “over-educated.”

“Why is that the women with the least likelihood of getting pregnant are the ones most worried about having abortions?” Gaetz asked the audience. “Nobody wants to impregnate you if you look like a thumb.”

Comedy gold with a heavy thread of truth.

    1. There was another video going around of two mid to late twenties gals, who were being interviewed about the issue, stating that they are so distraught, that they were going to get sterilized. They were both decent looking gals, by the way.
Thing is, their “decision” justifies the Pro-Life movement in every way. In essence, the gals were stating that abortion was their birth control of choice, and that, has been one of the heavy critiques of abortion. It seems leftist wymyn are too cheap or stupid to purchase their pills or rubbers for their random encounters, but have lots of money for their cell phones and all other luxuries of life.

      1. Some interesting statistics on abortion.

#1. Number of abortions has dropped by 50% since 1991.
#2. 44% of abortions are medically induced (pills taken to terminate the fetus).
#3. Women in their 20s make up the largest demographic, followed by women in their 30s.
#4. Almost 10% of women seeking an abortion are “out-of-state” (these are US stats).
        #5. 85% are unmarried.
        #6. 38% are Black, 33% are White, 21% Hispanic.
        #7. 58% are first-timers.
#8. 40% had no previous children.
#9. 93% of abortions occur in first trimester.

“EU energy ministers approved a draft European law meant to lower demand for gas by 15% from August through March. The new legislation entails voluntary national steps to reduce gas consumption and, if they yield insufficient savings, a trigger for mandatory moves in the 27-member bloc.”

    Heh, schadenfrozen.

“So instead of being an ableist (discriminating against those with disabilities), make it work. Let’s make it accommodating for people. Being obese is a recognized disability. In order to have fun you have to fit in this little box?”

Put a cork in it and maybe stop supersizing all the big boxes of food you eat, fatso.

    1. “Fatso” is a derogatory term. CBC News, CTV News and other government-approved media suggest one use the terms “plus-sized individual”, “cellulite-challenged person”, “endomorphically-inclined individual” or some other supportive term. Obese people need safe places. /sarc.

  9. How many pow-wows has the Pope attended on his apology tour? What constructive will come of it, history can’t be changed, we can feel sad, be shocked but we cannot apologize for the actions of those who have gone before us.
Hopefully his visit will ease the pain of all affected by bad decisions of governance and trusting people of the cloth who were more rotten than righteous.

    1. It’s all ShowBiz Liz. Pomp and ceremony.

Signifying nothing to any critical thinker.

If the grifters want to think that a man in a dress that thinks he is “god on earth”, makes all their sins of the past disappear, then they will. They’re naive. This is just more posturing and flimflam.

  10. Turner Classic Movies’ (TCM) ultimate movie star showcase – Summer Under the Stars – returns this August for its 11th year as TCM pays tribute to 31 different stars in 31 days.

Sixteen of this year’s stars are being celebrated for the first time duringSummer Under the Stars, including Oscar® winners Joan Fontaine (Aug. 6), Mickey Rooney (Aug. 13), Wallace Beery (Aug. 17), Hattie McDaniel (Aug. 20), Downton Abbey star Maggie Smith (Aug. 22), Charles Coburn (Aug. 24), Martin Balsam(Aug. 27), Shirley Jones (Aug. 28) and Rex Harrison (Aug. 31). Also featured for the first time will be silent heartthrob Ramón Novarro (Aug. 8); legendary French actressCatherine Deneuve (Aug. 12), whose day features six films making their TCM debuts; Ann Blyth (Aug. 16), whose marathon will air on her 85th birthday; and Mary Boland (Aug. 4) and Glenda Farrell (Aug. 29), two outstanding character actresses who never received the recognition they deserved. They will join 15 returning favorites, including Humphrey Bogart (Aug. 1), Doris Day (Aug. 2), Charlton Heston.

    1. Thanks to past editions of SUTS, I’ve seen a number of movies that were new to me. Some were worth watching and others could be classified as “OK, so I’ve seen it,” after which I promptly forget about them.

    2. Also coming up next month, the final 3 episodes of the AMC series Better Call Saul. It’s a prequel, of sorts, to Breaking Bad and it’s equally as good.

      1. I’m binge watching it on Netflix. I don’t know what to make of it, very well written– only on S1Ep3, actually on –at this moment….

    1. I have ‘ em playing in the background as noise, the latest news and politicians’ gaffes are not enough.

      1. And there are enough movies that are simply worth watching time and again. I have only read about two or three books more than once, but there are lots of movies that I’ll watch for the third, or twenty-third time. 🙂

        1. In addition, there are a large number of movies that have been uploaded onto sites such as Odysee and YouTube that one might not even need to have cable TV.

        2. BG: Your book “Uncompahgre,” which I plan to read, seems very interesting. Please excuse my comment, if that is not yours.

I’ve never read a book twice, and rarely watch a movie twice. It would’ve been something exceptional if I did that. Some of the really old movies are still great fun, though. There is nothing that compares to them. I suspect they’ll survive and be studied for hundreds of years and will always be superior to some of the movies out now.

Recently I looked at what was playing at the local theatre– it’s nothing I’d want to see. The multiplex houses are advertising leather recliners to better your movie experience. Is it to nod off? Yeah. That’s it.

          1. One of the problems with I’ve noticed with movies made in the last 20 years is that they are, quite frankly, boring. It takes a long time before anything actually happens and, once it does, watching paint dry would have been more exciting.

For example, I’ve found most movies directed by Kathryn Bigelow that I’ve seen to be tedious (e. g., The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty–zzzzzzz!). One might think that she learned nothing about that sort of thing while being married to James Cameron.

          2. I refreshed my memory and checked her bio, she has a great body of work. (Mostly Awards…sarc) Her movies are violent, not a big fan. Despite her great body of work, she’s known for this cult classic, saw it years ago, it was kinda kooky:
            https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_Break

            P.S.
Saw those flicks — yeah, yawn.

      2. Some of the movies I’ve mentioned on SDA lately are of that quality. They’re something to look at while I’m tinkering with some Arduino code or debugging a circuit.

    2. VOWG:

I’ve seen a number of movies that have been made in the last 20 years and most of them weren’t worth bothering about. That’s one reason why it’s been nearly 3 decades since I last saw one in a cinema.

If I watch them at home, I dictate my environment. I don’t have to pay an outrageous price for popcorn, I don’t have to worry about someone’s head being in the way, and I’m not disturbed by someone’s candy wrappers.

  11. The World Economic Forum (WEF) is calling for an end to private car ownership. A recently published paper calls for an end to “wasteful” private vehicle ownership in favor of public transportation and communal cars.

    nationalfile

    1. Yup. I’ll be moving my stuff using Edmonton Transit….. Mind you, considering some of the nutters I’ve encountered on the highway during my road trips to and from Fort St. John in the past year or so, some people don’t deserve to drive a motor vehicle, let alone own one.
