  1. 85 miles? Not so bad if you are only hauling your boat to the marina, or your tractor for service. Obviously it’s a non starter for a lot (the vast majority) of people who traditionally buy pickup trucks. But maybe it’s fine for a farm truck for certain conditions, just kind of expensive for such a purpose when I just saw an old f-150 with 100K miles on it for $4,000 by the road, and it would do all of that too.

  2. Now try that in the winter in Denver, Colorado.

My guess for EVehicle range 50 miles max.

    1. Ford should be happy they didn’t test against the new 3.0l Chev diesel.

  3. 85 miles. Not so good in Canada, most parts don’t have chargers for hundreds of miles, and the idea is to get somewhere, not hunt for juice and wait, and wait. TPTB want you stuck in your little corner just like under covid.

    1. Now if that trailer was hauling a running diesel generator hooked up umbilically to that EV……

      1. At the charge rate these batteries are limited to, it’s unlikely that your generator-trailer could keep up.

  4. OT: “A widespread Rogers outage on Friday is interrupting wireless, cable and internet services across the country. It’s also having an impact on emergency services and payment systems, causing far-reaching disruptions to transportation, education, retail and more.”

  5. Rented an Eco Boost F150 last year estimated mileage at fill up 1200 Km
Twin turbo V6 went like hell too.

    1. Cal
My Eco boost, has more steam for towing than fords 5 liter V8, and yah the sucker goes like HELL. But I’ma selling the thing, as I bought a new one, with 3.3 liter, great on gas, and tows all I need to tow.

  6. Probably could have done a better comparison between the Lightning and the F150 powerboost…

  7. It gets worse. Longmont is at 5000 feet, Pueblo 4700 feet. The route is high elevation, hilly, and drops 300 feet overall. These factors all play into the electric vehicles favor.

    1. And between Longmont and Pueblo there are 305,000 morons on I-25. A basic principle of driving on the Front-Range is that Coloradans’ get into their vehicles and immediately become complete assholes. Enough to wear out a set of brake pads in 125 miles. I attribute some of that to the massive migration of ex-Californians to Colorado since 2000.

Guess where I don’t live anymore.

  8. Now take it off-road, shake the daylights out of it and park it on your garage.

    1. TFL bought the truck outright ($82,000.00 US) with plans on driving it to Alaska. Ford is loaning them a gas powered truck with 110 volt outlets in the bed as a chase truck to charge up if (when) needed. Someone should race them on a pack horse.

  9. So the EV truck got half of what it estimated it would get…not surprised…

Wait until our government forces us to go green all the way, bans coal, gas, diesel etc etc

our economy will be half as strong as it is today, our dollar will have half the buying power it has now.

And then they will raise the price of electricity.

    1. Indeed, you may be right, but I think that today’s economy isn’t nearly as strong as you think it is.

  10. A fireman told me yesterday that they all have to take training on how to deal with electric vehicles when it comes to using the jaws of life. You cut into the body and you risk electrocution.

    1. Jaws of life will never be needed on EV’s … all occupants are trapped and burned to death.

  11. The Robertson Range Extender.
    Functional Unit 2.
Exactly as John Bosley says above..
Except make the diesel loud, use massive amounts of chrome , megaphone exhausts and a screaming turbo..
Most electric forklifts and golf carts have a safety feature, preventing them moving while under charge..Easily defeated, for a small fee.
And after getting your market for range extenders saturated, you can come back to the same customers and improve their efficiency..
By eliminating the batteries,an unnecessary weight and expense on a diesel electric.
Ditch the batteries and your range, now in litres of diesel, will improve.

    1. Use a Screaming Jimmy or a 6V92 for the noise factor.
Had to move an old big 5 ton GMC the other day that sat 10 years with the same fuel in the tank.
Fired right up after a few revolutions on the starter.
      Good old Detroit Iron.

  12. I watched that video last week. The next day I drove 100 miles, in my Hemi Ram with the same size fuel tank as FLT’s GM, towed a 5500 lb trailer back here, and still had over 100 miles of range left. Imagine all the folks who drive an hour or two on a Friday night to camp at a non-serviced campground. You’d have to run the generator all weekend long, just to have enough power to drive halfway home. And you’d have to leave early because of the people who’ll run you out of the campground over yer gawddamn generator.

  13. I watched that one as well. There’s an even more embarrassing part to the story.
Not only did the EV have to stop for a charge after 85 miles… but they turned the gasser around and headed home…. made it back to the filling station start point while the EV was still charging.
