What size battery does it take to start a battery?
On Monday, Ford Motor Co. notified dealers that it would be issuing a stop-sale notice for the all-electric “Mustang” Mach-E. The note made mention that the high-voltage contacts on the battery could overheat and cause malfunctions — potentially causing the vehicle to lose power while in operation or even fail to start.
Considering how absolutely wicked battery fires can become, this was likely a prudent move on the part of Ford. Over the last several years, EVs have been getting some negative attention for fires related to charging or battery failures of late and Blue Oval is likely aware that any mishaps with the Mach-E will be amplified as a result. Nipping this in the bud immediately is wise. However, the resulting recall has defaulted to the industry standard solution of issuing a software update on the affected models.
While tweaking the software can help mitigate problems, manufacturers have started leaning on the strategy as a way to buy time until a more comprehensive hardware fix is developed. This may also be the situation with Ford, as it doesn’t even want dealers to demonstrate the Mach-E to potential customers and used capitalized letters to make that point. Transcripts of the dealer notice shared on the relevant Mach-E forums have likewise mentioned that parts pertaining to the subsequent recall were unavailable. However, the phrasing used by the automaker makes the assumed lack of any parts interchangeable with the planned software update a corporate spokesperson said should be available next month.

The ghost of the Pinto haunts the modern EV…
I thought the same thing panther, although I think when pintos were blowing up no one commented that they were “getting some negative attention” as a result.
Don’t worry, Justin says you can take the bus.
You mean the “diesel” powered bus? After 2035, it won’t exist either.
Codex…
Given the DEF issue facing N. America…? I’d say after 2025 max.
(At least for any diesel bus mfgd 2010 afterwards…)
Looks like my 2005 F350 just gained another 10k in value. Might not be a bad time to sell it to someone with more money than brains.
As the owner and modifier of several generations of true Mustangs, I say good riddance. My current 06 GT gets 30 MPG on the highway and has 170K on the odometer. Nothing but fluids, tires, bulbs, belts, and wipers. I plan to drive it until I die.
The EV version is a sad joke to the Mustang moniker.
It should have been called the Bronckette, or the Rangerette. The Torinov?
Anyways, I can think of a lot better ways to spend $90K than these abortions. Mind you, from what I understand, most of these high end virtue signalling products, are leased as cheaply as possible. It’s the only way the virtuous can “afford” to drive them. Otherwise, purchasing them makes no economic sense whatsoever. The loan payments, far outweigh the cost of a similar ICE vehicle plus gas consumption. It doesn’t even compare, for anyone that can perform math skills without taking their shoes and Sox off.
Taking a Bus.
Democrats want all our children going to school on electric busses.
Someone at SDA had a video showing an electric Bus that caught fire and burned In about 30 seconds.
Most of the kids could never have escaped.
Oh come now Justin assures us electric buses are perfectly safe as you can see in this video.

Time to stop the EV foolishness. Good grief I have never seen such idiocy in my life. From the “covid” scam to the climate change scam we are in the worst of times.
Agreed. The only change I’d suggest is ‘we are in the stupidest of times’.
Pretty sure the only people in Canada who have used stupid as an adjective more than VOWG are the Timid Truck Tool’s teachers!
I could be wrong but the corporate strategy here may be to create the conditions to quietly terminate production.
The tide may be turning against big green and they just want to be ahead of the curve.
Slightly related
The CAMI plant in Ingersoll is transitioning out of Equinox production into EV delivery trucks.
Big Blue has a habit of taking production from successful plants and giving it to the flagship plants no matter how bad the quality is at the flagship plant. Then the successful plant gets a dog of a product which doesn’t sell and they get mothballed as a result.
The lucky workers are the first ones to get offered a package.

Not a hope in hell my friend, these Climatards will simply dbl down. As for the Automotive industry as a whole, the lack of CPU’s and other chips along with Diesel Truck production is going to fall off a cliff…sooner than later. I work pt at a GM dealership.
Trucks and other vehicles are being sold without Entertainment systems. 6-8 months delay if ever….And why anyone would buy a New Duramax is beyond me. DEF & the lack thereof is going to be a MASSIVE issue in the months to come…not only in passenger Trucks, but in the Trucking industry as a whole. (it’s made with UREA & de-ionized water…also in Dire supply straits)
The idea of course is for us to walk, bus or buy a horse.
…and if that kills us..?? All the better.
My first new car was a Ford Mustang. It must have been built on a Friday, as I had nothing but problems with it. It only lasted 7 years and then was kaput! My next car was a standard Mazda 626. It was even worse than the Ford. Best cars have been Toyota Camry and XLE.
Sounds like a “Mustang II – Boredom 1,000. Built in the early 80’s. One of the ugliest and mechanically feeble car in history! Heavily endorsed by Jimmy Carter
EV’s are good off the start, as electric motors produce max torque at 0 RPM, but once my little 4 cyl ICE hits 4k rpm it eats those shitboxes . And their bragging rite go out the window
There was a time I was very bullish on new technology and innovation but the hype powering EV development, renewable energy, and now even vaccines, is making me a denier. I gloat over every fire, failure, fatality and recall. I’m not happy about that but I feel that there has to be a penalty for dismissing proven and reliable systems and embracing these stupid contraptions. FTW.
Batteries don’t scale like fuel tanks. Its that simple. The failure probability of a fuel tank doesn’t increase with the number of litres of fuel it can contain, it stays pretty much the same, whereas the failure probability of a battery increases at least linearly with the number of cells in it, probably a bit faster.
That sounds too much like science. Can’t you come up with some facts that conforms to peoples feelings?
Yes I can.
Fuel hurts my state-sponsored feewings!
Feewings, nothing more than feewings of the way we were…
The Pinto explosion problem was a media generated lie. The car was fine.
The same cannot be said about EVs.
IMHO, Ford deserves this for abusing the historic legacy of the Mustang to sell some shitty SUV’s.
That’s right up there in the world of automotive gaslighting with Chrysler calling a four-door sedan a Charger, or NASCAR completely ignoring the fact there has never been a production V8 powered, rear-wheel drive Camry. Again, just my opinion as a lifelong car guy.
The Pinto was an example of gaslighting too. In 1975, it was safer than the Toyota Corolla or VW Beetle, among others.
My guess is that it was killed because it focused on user-maintainability.
Another defective electric toy for the kids.
The aggregate engineering intellect of car companies is plummeting.
