I suspect the few slaves in Canada were domestic servants of the few rich people. The truth is early Canadians were small scale, often subsistence, farmers who were as poor as slaves and couldn’t have fed them much less have purchased them. Slavery was long gone in Canada before it was outlawed in the rest of the Empire. At its peak in the United States 1.6 % of the population owned slaves. I suspect in Canada a tiny fraction of that number owned slaves.

About the only large scale slave owners in Canada were the Indians. When they officially banned slavery in the British Empire, they were freed and the owners were compensated by the crown. The few black slaves owned by the Indians was statistically small compared to the white and other tribe captures.

My Grandfather came here as an indentured farm hand and worked for a farmer like a slave for the several years of the contract. His treatment was little better than a slave’s, but as he was white, the euphemism protected his status for the faint of heart or those who simply don’t want to know the historical facts of our noble Canader.
When WW1 was declared, Grandpa immediately enlisted and became a Lance Corporal in the cavalry. He was twice wounded in action and was awarded a medal for gallantry.
He spent the last few months of the war in hospital grievously wounded,after being left for dead on the battle field,and only rescued when some French peasants sent to check for survivors noticed he was still breathing.
He was honorably discharged and being considered 80% disabled, could no longer work his farm and was given a pension of a few dollars per month, but not enough to live on, so he had to take on menial jobs such as taking census or helping to run elections at the local level.
He was one of the founders of the Royal Canadian Legion, formed by veterans to fight against the government that tried it’s best to ignore them. He assisted many Indian veterans who were illiterate to get the benefits they were entitled to but were held back by the federal bureaucracy, whose attitude always was, “once the fighting’s over, veterans are of no more use.”
So when an idiot like Justin Trudeau or a racial activist starts to weep over their treatment at the hands of us White Oppressors, I get a bit testy, as our forebears were treated no better than those ethnic “victims” and often worse,and tens of thousands of them sacrificed their lives for this f***ing country with little reward except the privilege of citizenship. And that shithead Trudeau sneers at “old stock Canadians”, calls us racist and genocidal, and asks us to feel guilty because a few rich Canadians could afford slaves.
