Hopefully Reuters does not make a habit of drawing ridiculous conclusions, but maybe that’s fitting if your main concern is a narrative and not logic. Who knew that EV production is totally immune from supply chain bottlenecks and parts supply disruptions? They must truly be magical vehicles.
The supply crunch could accelerate the plans of some legacy auto firms to switch to a new generation of lighter, machine-made harnesses designed for electric vehicles, according to interviews with more than a dozen industry players and experts.
“This is just one more rationale for the industry to make the transition to electric quicker,” said Sam Fiorani, head of production forecasting firm AutoForecast Solutions.

They apply the same logic to “car repairs”, and how they’ll become a thing of the past, as though brake jobs, alignments, tire & windshield replacements won’t be required on electric vehicles. That short list basically accounts for about 75% of what people spend in the first half dozen years of a car’s life. Then there will be the skyrocketing cost of building cars when all the build materials that are currently by-products of other energy processes are suddenly no longer by-products, and the whole process is dedicated to making what used to be by-products. That $18 worth of seat foam suddenly becomes $360 worth of seat foam.
Bill
In the Biden/Trudeau world, you won’t be spending any money on car repairs.
You’ll be taking public transit.
Do these idiots even have the faintest idea of how much diesel fuel is burned to mine enough copper to build an electric car. What if the price of fuel goes up so high that it’s uneconomical to mine copper. They seem to think that EVs are magical entities that just appear and then you can drive them for free. Still no report on how well they do in northern Canada.
Wondering when organized crime will start stealing EVs to get the copper.
Or even the batteries.
Too heavy and bulky. Easier to steal gold bullion
Organized crime is selling you the EVs.
Yes, they DO think all of this is magical.
This is why I believe in air-lifting people to various places, like a cobalt mine in Congo, for example, so that people can see the black children they exploit.
I’d prefer these dolts replace the children and work the mines themselves.
Then they surely would get an up close and personal view.
Who knows, maybe WEF and Company have just that scenario in mind.
Presuming they can actually achieve this massive shift to EV’s, just who will they then blame when the massive overnight electrical demand results in rolling blackouts and rationing of EV charging (say, 2 hours per day)?
Won’t be in their neighbourhoods.
I agree with a lot of what I see here about EVs, but this point doesn’t hold water. The grid is massively underutilized overnight (hence the lower rates) and as such can support a significant number of EVs charging overnight without any increase in capacity. This would actually increase the overall efficiency of the grid.
Yes, about that:
“Level 2 chargers are quite common, but installing one wasn’t as easy as the Nelsons had thought. Level 2s have about the same electrical needs as a dryer or stove—240 volts/30 amps—and the Nelsons’ house, like most older Canadian homes, was only wired for 100 amps. They also have a pool and air conditioning, and in the middle of summer, with both the pool pump and the AC running, charging the Bolt could overload their electrical panel. They needed to upgrade to 200 amps, meaning several thousand more dollars and digging up their yard to lay in the proper electrical service.”

There is nothing green about EVs.
I believe they refer to the harnesses pictured here.

the economic conditions imposed by our idiot politicians point to an imminent return of Bennet buggies. It is a far more sensible solution than electric car charging that our electricity grid cannot support
Je Suis Mennonite.
Say what you will about the Amish, Mennonites, etc. but they are well positioned to survive the coming economic & societal collapses with much less disruption to their lives than just about everyone else in the west save the doomsday preppers.
““This is just one more rationale for the industry to make the transition to electric quicker,” said Sam Fiorani, head of production forecasting firm AutoForecast Solutions.”
This level of idiocy does not bode well for Sam Fiorani’s consulting business…
If customers wanted a “transition” they’d be asking for it, and not many are
Anytime I see a prog narrative supported by “dozens of industry insiders” who are not willing to sign their names to said Virtue Signalling, I question:
a) if the writer is just making stuff up, or grossly exaggerating the numbers and credentials of these unnamed sources, or
b) if these “inside sources” actually believe what they are saying, given that they remain unnamed.
Same goes for political stories supported by unnamed sources.
EV
Short for Evil
No more gas or diesel for us…
They are shutting everything down…
Well, eventually “they” will be shut down.
The supply chain disruption for the part in question (made in the Ukraine) is another result of our masters’ starting a war with Russia for no good reason and without a thought for the possible consequences.
Doesn’t it seem a bit odd that suddenly the Ukraine is the manufacturer of all kinds of things that we can’t get? It appears that we also bought everything from fertilizer to transistors from Russia and that explains the shortfalls. Seems a bit odd. Russia never stuck me as a hotbed of manufacturing. And, of course, the price of fuel goes up because Putin Bad. Apparently Russia had a stangle hold on oil and gas too. Who knew?
I’m sure it’s all coincidence.
Too bad there’s no oil in Canada.
It’s all going to end in tears.

“The supply chain issue is just one more rationale to make the transition from coke to Pepsi ” according to pepsico vice president in charge of marketing Les T Gotrudeau.
People !
Don t you know that electric cars will bring world peace and put an end to racism?
They may even cure cancer !!!
and marital infidelity !
All kidding aside,
Reuters said this a year ago,
“… With the advent of hybrid and battery electric vehicles, the amount of copper wiring used to power an automobile has increased. There are generally three types of electric vehicles, each requiring more copper than a traditional internal combustion vehicle. —May 5, 2021 …”
So if electric cars use MORE wires and MORE harnesses than gasoline cars, how can it be easier and quicker to make those longer heavier bigger harnesses for electric cars?
Reuters is lying because it fits the narrative that electric cars are fantastic, marvelous and perfect!
Electric cars will bring world peace, make racism disapear, will cure cancer and marital infidelity !!!
