    1. Yup …Canadians are indeed sheep.

If Vladimir Putin arrived in Ottawa and together with Trudeau announced that Canada would immediately become a communist country (as we are currently headed without Putin’s help) , many would bow down in acceptance … just like the COVID mandates.

    2. The big thing to realize here is that the radio/web station in question is paid quite handsomely to push the narrative and/or “not report bad news” by the local government and corporate citizens. That’s from opinions and stories of people working from the inside.

      1. Then it’s not just reserves that should be concerned about their drinking water.

      2. I grew up on The Rock (up to about 16). As the child of small business parents I was aware of Newfie UI games and welfarism but it seems that I held on to a sense of Rockian hardiness. I was positively startled to learn about Newf extreme COVID compliance.

In an email correspondence with an old friend from The Rock I probed with a little test; asked, “But surely you disagree with my being banned from planes, boats and trains!?”. Crickets.

  1. 75 – 25 now.

This poll reflects the fact that despite some positive signs in the US, Canadian governments and their legacy media hacks still have a stranglehold on information/disinformation flow in this country.

  2. I hate being confined with people (Covid or not), so I don’t fly, so I don’t care.

    1. any more stupid than the residents of Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver? and they outnumber us 40 to 1. You can be critical without being insulting.

      1. You do know that Newfoundlanders have their own genre of “mainlander” jokes right?

        1. Regret joining Canada yet? There’s got be a Smallwood joke in there…….

          1. Read “Don’t tell the Newfoundlanders” by Greg Malone. Election rigging has a long history here.
I am also an honorary member of the Newfoundland Separation Federation 😉

        2. The best Newfs are not defensive about Newfie jokes — indeed they usually enjoy and tell them. I’m a former Newf who’s been CFA since the late 60s so that has probably changed.

          1. Newfie jokes are great. Newfie is just a word like any other . It can be a term of endearment or an insult – all depends on the tone and intent of the speaker

  3. You can’t get on a plane without ‘the jabs’, so why would masks be needed at all?

    Safe and effective, right?

  4. And people wonder why I drive to and from my house in B. C……

    1. So did I, even though I’m like you, a pure blood.
Now I’m thinking that perhaps I voted the wrong way. Why should I care about the discomfort of those, who by their acquiescence to an evil regime, have denied me my rights?

      1. There are no scientific or medical reasons to support denying unvaxxed people from flying. The only reason is because Blackie is punishing the disobedient.
        He is a petty tyrant.

  5. I have no issue with older people or those who are not ‘the sharpest tool in the box’ following orders. Watching seniors who are doing what they have been feared into over the last two years by those in charge is dreadful.
I do have a problem with those who are issuing the orders and those who have the capability to check and research and challenge but choose not to. (What’s the point? I choose to focus on positive things…).

  6. We’re not out of this yet. City of Hamilton voted to fire their remaining 441 un-injected staff, including 40 firefighters. BC won’t bring back their un-injected nurses. I’m not litigious, but I hope the lawsuits are flying.
    This isn’t ignorance, it’s evil.

    1. How can millions of people lose their ability to reason? That’s exactly what happened. However the shift started long before the pandemic.

      1. The shift started long before the pandemic.
        Yup.
That comment brought to mind an essay from 2008 in the Atlantic mag entitled “is google making us stoopid?”
The contention was that the Internet has undermined our ability to concentrate on lengthy thought pieces.
As Jordan Peterson has noted, thinking is hard.
However, some people thirst for depth and sustained reasoning. That explains why some of us will listen to lengthy conversations by the likes of Peterson and others, and try to digest the difficulties inherent in such mindful attempts to deepen our understanding.

        1. Peterson also dealt with this point in the interview at Hoover that was posted yesterday.
Basically, and generally speaking, if you have no moral compass or faith in God, you will fall for anything. This was in answer to the question “Why did so many university students follow the ‘rules’ without resistance?”

        1. One thing this crap taught me was I vastly over-estimated the reasonability of the masses.
And the result of that is zero tolerance.

          1. I think he meant they never had it in the first place, so nothing to lose.
That was my loose take, anyway.

      2. info hungry. (good handle).

        How? Menticide.
In my handle the ‘x’ means stop, end.

  7. When the government is the Province’s biggest employer either directly or indirectly don’t expect bastions of rock hard conservatism nor anything that’d require thinking outside of what they’ve been told. They know who butters their bread.
The last federal election told me all I needed to know.

  8. Did my duty (still 70-30).
That result is certainly due to the fact that 50% of the population is below average.
I cannot imagine why people would vote yes? 1) Masks do not help. 2) Corona is more or less over; 3) The rest of the world is opening up very quickly, including airlines.
(Flew Stockholm-Prague a couple of weeks ago, no checks on vax docs or vax tests, no masks, neither in airports nor on the flight, i.e. it was normal!)

  9. Thanks for the effort Kate but, being locked in NL for the entirety of the pandemic, I can assure you the narrative runs deep here. The population is old and get their news exclusively from mainstream sources. In the words of the warden from Cool Hand Luke- “There are some people you just can’t reach”. NL has always been an insular society and the touted NL hospitality only exists for two reasons. 1 – they are nice because they know you are leaving soon and, 2 – they would much prefer to talk about you behind your back.
A CFA (come from away -i.e. not one of us) in outport NL will learn the meaning of “Othering” very quickly. It has primed the population to accept “Othering” for any directed reason (vax) without question and with the associated moral righteousness because it already exists as a part of NL culture.
I have seen some small turning of the tide here in the last few months – but that just means 70-30 against freedom now rather than the 80-20 it has been

    1. they are nice because they know you are leaving soon…

Good point. Watched the movie Come From Away some time ago, I’m sure you’ve seen it. One of the Americans involved was so enamoured with NL he indicated he was looking for a residence there to soak up all that love and kindness on a permanent basis.
      I remember thinking…”Oh dude, I think you’re in for a bit of a surprise.”

I also remember having a conversation with a fellow in Lunenburg,Nova Scotia who lived there for over ten years and was moving back to Ontario where he was from originally. When I asked why he told me…”You can live here but to them you’ll always be an outsider”.

      1. right on both counts – and you can even be an outsider from a different bay. I am a native but not living in the town I was born. I am a CFA to the people in this town

  10. When I first saw the poll it looked like it was preloaded with fraudulent responses. No random group of people would be over 2/3 in favour of masks.

    1. masks are no longer mandatory here but when I go shopping only 1 in 10(maybe) is maskless like me

  11. 69/31…and all it took was 75 yrs of CBC 24/7

    No surprise there…
I cannot recall the last time I read in depth or listened to Anything CBC….At least 12-15 yrs.

    1. The only use CBC has for me nowadays is as a way of checking the reception of my radio gear. I haven’t listened to it for more than a few minutes ever since I switched over to SiriusXM.

  12. Just voted…..the Yes at 66% now. Can’t say I’m totally surprised…..when we go to the supermarket(s) here , (Eastern Ontario), we’re always among the ~15% who are unmasked.

  13. I’ve flown to NFL and I agree that 76% of them should be wearing masks. But not for covid! For that matter about 76% of the population starting with me should wear a mask to protect the children from such a horrific sight!
