Two years down the drain

If you want to read an excellent synopsis of everything that went wrong with pandemic policy over the past two years, look no further than this analysis. I’ve not run across anything which so consistently ticks all the right boxes, one after the other. Every single paragraph hits it out of the park.

Especially in deep blue areas, any restriction or mandate instantly became the status quo, the null hypothesis: The Science™. It was like the children’s game King of the Hill. Rolling back any policy required proving that doing so would lead to no community transmission of COVID. Fail to prove a negative? Back down the hill you go.

As two Rutgers law professors said in this excellent essay in Tablet, discourse was “fostered by an elite culture whose overconfidence led to … undermining open discussion in a vain attempt to prove that complex questions could only have one universal and immutable answer.” The “overselling of policy … led them to religious like zeal and dogmatism about particular interventions.”

  1. Notice how conversations start now? Wow, everyone around me is sick with covid. Everyone in the house. I ask if they are vaccinated. Of course! Everyone is.

And here we sit, all unvaccinated and still on leave without pay. No-one in our house has gotten it. What a mystery.
Nice to see though, more and more are going maskless. Except Loblaws. All the Karens in Ottawa shop at Loblaws.

  2. There needs to be penalties for those who did this. Ranging from an ass kicking to some hangings depending on the level of vainglorious stupidity and downright evil.

  3. I’m telling you… Things did not “go wrong!” Things went according to plan, except for the fact that we caught on to their scheme. Question is, did we wake up in time, or did we oversleep past the alarm clock buzzing?

    1. Since I see no bird pecked bodies hanging from posts and trees , I’ll say we did a Rip Van Winkle.

  4. Reading the comments was interesting but disappointing. ‘Vaccines saved the day. The author needs to say that.’ Totally ignoring the reams and reams of adverse reactions. Plus the fact that if yu look at the data without the manipulations like converting any adverse reaction days 1-14 (1-21 in BC and Sask) into COVID in the unvaccinated the vaccines did not work and caused more death and disability than the virus ever did Lots of “We didn’t know any better.” They did. We have decades of experience handling respiratory viruses from animal reservoirs and our ethical standards were developed precisely to avoid exactly the kind of horrific excesses that occurred during the lockdown.

If we had simply followed ethical standards we already knew worked none of the bad stuff would have happened.

They are still in denial and the still cannot accept they did harm.

    1. The whole thing was like a Rube Goldberg machine to catch a mouse with no proof that the mouse was ever caught or ever could be caught.

    2. The vaccine program completely and utterly failed. Anyone who says otherwise is in denial. This subjective business about reduced severity is cope. They don’t work. Like at all.

  5. It’s almost like the founding fathers of the United States and all of the precedent which lead them to their revolutionary ideas were right. This whole pandemic has been a complete subversion of democracy in favour of technocracy which is a very idiotic philosophy (Google it). Technocracy literally used to be a political movement at least in BC. Anyway it’s bonkers and it’s exactly what was adopted. Trust the science, don’t question public health measures is basically their dream come true.

What’s worse is none of it worked at all. Literally we could have done nothing at all with the same result. If people ever figure that out…

      1. Correct, I was right from the get go and I am still right. No one has successfully shown that that approach would not have worked. It was is and continues to be a flu. There is no “vaccine” and masks cannot prevent the spread of a virus, any virus.

  6. If nothing else, this is an extremely well-written piece. As Dennis noted, every paragraph makes a point. You may or may not find it persuasive, but it is a sterling example of the writer’s craft.

  7. i have to post. This just happened today. My brother-in-law is not vaxxed. His son is. His son works at a grocery store.

His son came home a couple of nights ago with a fever (and had tested positive at work, so naturally he came home).

Ok, so everyone says “see, he got the shot, he got the virus”.

Now my brother-in-law has it. Sore throat, hard breathing, fever. 1+1=2. Unvaxxed people catch it too.

I think some in here do more damage by pretending the virus doesn’t exist. And I keep saying, I personally (not a friend of a friend of an uncle) know more than 3 people who passed away with it. Sadly, husband and mother-in-law. They were in their 70’s and had not taken the shot and were in decent shape. As well a close family lost a husband because he didn’t get vaxxed and the wife ended up in hospital because their teenage daughter came home from a seniors home where she worked and probably picked it up there.

So please, be aware of it, but don’t diss it as a conspiracy government world order exercise. Sure it may have originated in a lab, but Occom’s razor – it got out into a meat market because some chemist thought he could make money selling the meat rather than disposing of the bats.

    1. Vaxxed or unvaxxed makes no difference. The vaccine does absolutely zero at best and probably makes it more likely to catch covid. Luckily it’s mutated into a cold and is not worthy of thinking about at all which I don’t other than stupid cuck muzzles on planes and the idiots still wearing them.

    2. Lockdowns of hundreds of millions, mask mandates and vax passports = government world order exercise.
if you don’t think so, then you are doing much, much more harm than anyone who says the virus doesn’t exist.

      1. Oh, I won’t admit to knee jerk reactions from the governments but the narrative of a global conspiracy is stretching it. Think about it, governments want to loose millions of dollars in revenue? There is incompetent but this beyond that, There are the fake fact checkers and big IT doing weird things, but that is par for the society we are in.

        1. Yeah, there is no such thing as Schwab’s book “The Great Reset” and his sending it out to politicians all over the world, no such thing as the WEF’s young leaders school that has numerous alumni spread over the west’s political landscape, and its just a coincidence that the COVID measures that these alumni are implementing are neatly outlined in said book.
You are either willfully blind or willfully spreading misinformation.

    3. Get back to me in three days when B-I-L and family have kicked the bug with zero problem. That’s the course for 99.995% of WuFlu infections. I didn’t make that up, those are the government numbers. You just have to dig like hell to find them.

And that’s the point. It’s a cold, and not a bad one. For this we spent two years in hiding, spent a trillion bucks in economic damage and straight up failed businesses, and let the camel’s head of mass social surveillance into the tent. Won’t be long before the rest of the camel comes in. I’m predicting months, not years.

      1. Phantom, at one point the IFR was 0.26%. Not real deadly. And yes it always was an exercise in control and possibly population decrease with the not-vaccines.

    4. Latest data out of Europe. For every life saved from COVID 1.2 lives were lost to cardiac deaths caused by the vax. Yes, the virus is real. Yes, people die from it. No, vaccines do not work. Vaccines kill more people than they save. The virus mostly kills old people with comorbidities. The deaths due to the vax are mostly in young people in the prime of their life. Before COVID people died every year from flu but we didn’t kill off young people to try save old people.

      1. I agree, people die from the flu, so nothing new. But what is the difference is this Covid strand. My daughter and grandson came down with the flu, but tested negative – so at least not everything is Covid.

  8. However, we are still assured by the Dispatch that “It’s Past Time for Conservatives to Reject Conspiracy Theories.”

The last two years taught us that today’s conspiracy theory is tomorrow’s headline.

Wuhan flu vaccines are snake oil.

President Trump was overthrown against the will of the American people.

And yes, the people who lied to you about Wuhan flu are lying to you about what’s happening in the Ukraine and why.

If the Republicans are serious about gaining fraud-proof majorities, they will hammer home each of the points above, as often as possible. If they want to stay in power, they will hold the liars accountable.

  9. Our effete elites are useless and clueless.
Convinced of their superior wisdom and armoured by their arrogance, they panicked, declared Crisis and then showed us what they can do in an emergency.
Concentrated incompetence, group think and butt covering prevailed.
    Fire them all.

Every politician that imposed “Emergency suspension of rights and freedoms, was telling us they were inadequate to the task at hand..
So utterly incompetent, that they could not manage a social panic without destroying civil society.Too greedy ,too immersed in their delusions of adequacy to step aside.

That “Charter of Rights and Freedoms ,they all blatter on about …meant absolutely zero.
The cost of locking down the healthy..No thought.
And the price of telling me,that my government has the right and power to tell me what medical procedures I must partake of…Is yet to be paid.

Every aspect of our institutions failed..
Unless you consider a State of Thuggery an achievement..

What happened to the Emergency Response training and specialized crews we spend decades paying for?
Where was the “balance of interests”..
    Non existent.

We are governed by Fools and Bandits..
    Did anyone actually expect Statesmen?
That any of these clowns could even see the “Good of society” let alone put that before their own self interests.

    Follow the money.
    Reward this “help” properly.
Such that none will dare to repeat this idiocy for decades to come.

The minions of The State, believe that the individual is subordinate to the herd.
Too stupid to comprehend the obvious.
If the individual has no rights or freedoms ,neither can the collective..

    Civilization is dead.
    Enjoy.

    1. “So utterly incompetent, that they could not manage a social panic without destroying civil society.”

They created the social panic, and exploited it to destroy civil society, on purpose, as is their wont.

  10. “Every aspect of our institutions failed..
Unless you consider a State of Thuggery an achievement..”
and the biggest thug of them all remains in the big chair ready and able to force feed and inflict Canadians with more of his thin gruel specially made from a recipe that could have been devised by Satan himself. Enjoy indeed!

    1. To that I agree, but 2 Timothy 3 says we will be facing perilous times…and read all the signs happening.
