Even those with combat experience in Afghanistan have not experienced what is currently going on in Ukraine. Russian weapons are powerful and indiscriminate. Those weapons weren’t used by the enemy in Iraq or Afghanistan.

I’m also not surprised of the lack of available guns in Lviv. Those are needed at the front lines. Even checkpoints guarded by Ukrainians that are further from the action might not have any guns at all. There’s been a few interviews of Ukrainians that man those checkpoints who confirm this. You can go from Lviv to Kyiv without much of a threat. Maybe the odd cruise missile, I don’t think small arms are useful for that.

Even those with military experience aren’t going to be handed an NLAW or MANPADs and told to go get em. Ukraine has no idea who these people are, and FSB infiltrates everywhere. Recently a few were arrested in Lviv. A bunch of priests were arrested too.

The Easter Rebellion in 1916 was spearheaded by an Irish language activist, Patrick Pearse, who had no paramilitary or military experience.

While seizing key buildings in Dublin started the rebellion off well, it was ultimately doomed to fail because the British army was well-trained, well-armed and organised, something the rag-tag Irish volunteers were not.

My point is that there are no great poets to whitewash this gong show to make it palatable.

If we could just ship out all the Stand with Ukraine leftists over there, (with a blanket each, or course), we’d stand a chance of fixing this country, and it wouldn’t make the Ukraine noticeably worse than it already is. Win/win.

Non of these volunteers seem to have read WW2 history in Europe or the Pacific or the Eastern front. They likely expected something like the video games they played where you can rewind and try again.
