I called RBC this morning on the customer service line. The representative brought up my accounts and investments, and we both agreed that I have no mortgage, no debt and no loans. Just savings and investments.
Then I explained that, as a political blogger who is on record as supporting the trucker protests, I believe my assets are no longer safe at the Royal Bank. She asked why I felt that way.
“The Emergency Act. I have no confidence my assets are secure from the government in your bank, if they can be seized without warrant or notice because of my political speech and beliefs.”
All she could say was that “we have received no directive from the government” (interesting) and that I should speak with my branch manager.
What you can do: do the same.
Yes! Because somebody(ies) higher up the the food chain in the RBC, and other banks are among the ones holding his leash and they need to understand that their golem has turned on them.

Spoke with Coast Capital Savings yesterday. Customer service says they will follow Trudeau regime edicts and seize funds if instructed.

Well ahead of you, Kuz, but in a different direction. The freeze dryer I ordered back at the start of January has been shipped and is now just tied up in border customs, hopefully to soon arrive. I won’t mention the brand, but Peavy Mart used to sell them until the manufacturer decided that regulatory changes made it prohibitive to continue dealing with Canada. So far I’m into it for $3652 USD (inc extra parts and upgrades). It’ll be worth it over time as I expect inflation to be pervasive and sustained.

Kate, I just heard you on Gormley with Couros. They are lying. I work with a lady that has a sister that works with a credit union in Saskatchewan, they were given a letter from the government. I asked for a copy but because it came via Snapchat, no picture. They have very heavy overly broad instructions that allows them to freeze accounts with impunity and no grievance process. All the bank does is “believe” that the funds are suspect and that’s it. We are in banana land right now.

RD: The Emergency Act was invoked by the Liberal Trudeau government via an Order-in- Council (OIC). Cabinet meets, decides to invoke the act, the OIC is drafted and the Governor general of Canada signs it thereby bringing it into force for 30 days, with extensions possible. Essentially, what the prime minister wants in Cabinet the prime minister gets.
The invocation must be reviewed in parliament within a short period of time. The Trudeau government does not have a majority in the House of Commons but is supported by the limousine socialist party of Jagmeet Singh (New Democratic Party) who in shockingly bigoted tweet stated, “Today Conservative MPs have endorsed a convoy led by those that claim the superiority of the white bloodline and equate Islam to a disease.” There will be no relief from parliament.
The Conservative party in opposition has stated they will not support the use of the Emergencies Act, but they lack the votes to overturn it.
You won’t get any support from the NDP; they always vote in lockstep, no real democracy in that party. If you don’t want Marshall Law in Canada longer than a week, the focus must be on the Liberals.
Jagmeet’s tweet exposes hatred towards a group that includes a Jewish guy and a Metis woman and in the broader sense the larger group. It occurs to me a complaint to the Human Rights boards would be in order. Imagine if hundreds of complaints were received about Trudeau’s defamation of the nonwasp component.
It is illegal, the emergency act is not passed. Don’t sweat anything there a Lawyers who have this all on lock. If you don’t like something contact the military if you want action.
I think this should be a serious concern for anyone supporting any conservative cause, through donations or through reading and commenting on sites like this. Clearly the goal of the Trudeau / WEF regime is control of communications (internet) as well as finances (via digital currency). And at this point I’m not sure that the majority of Canadians won’t support these goals.

As Kate says, only way to avoid confiscation – never thought it would come to this in Canada, but there you go – is to locate your assets in another country where the government has no ability to seize them. Why do you think the rich routinely buy big mansions in various countries? To live in a few days a year? It’s called insurance. Great short and succint book for investors is William Bernstein’s Deep Risk, where he discusses this and other types of permanently impoverishing human and natural calamities that have wiped people out in the past. Ironically, since 1900 or so, epidemics like the famous 1918 flu which killed 20% of infected and especially productive young, caused barely a ripple. Today’s COVID, the disease sure isn’t doing it, but the (un)intended side effects of government financial and societal interventions are heading that way.

The rep was quite flustered – I would say that they are getting a very high volume of calls regarding the same thing.
I’m guessing that the potential for pissing off people who may know where there are critical infrastructure weak points, or who have high security clearances, or both, is high.

It’s not a debate from what I watched. Trudeau is stonewalling the so-called debate.
Trudeau is bluffing with the Emergency Measures act in an attempt to spook the truckers and give the impression to some dumb cops that it is automatically invoked on General Trudeau’s command.
From the moment the Emergency Measures act is announced the government has 7 days to have a vote in Parliament AND the Senate and both Houses must pass it unanimously otherwise it expires.
The clock is ticking … we are at day 4 and Trudeau is delaying a vote in Parliament … AND the Emergency Measures act is not yet in place until ratified by Parliament and the Senate.
If he had the support he would have held the vote not delayed it.
Required debate in the HoC is currently being done (see links above), and it only needs a simple majority in each house. If it passes the House, I would expect the debate & vote in the Senate to take place tomorrow.
My understanding is that while parliament could vote not to support the invocation of the Act, thereby at that point withdrawing authorization for its use, the Emergencies Act is in force now as the Governor General signed the Order in Council invoking it. As the NDP props up this minority Liberal government parliament will grant no relief.
Parliament has UP TO 7 days to ratify the Emergency Act; it can be done sooner. Trudeau will want to ram this through as quickly as possible, before politicians get cold feet. If you haven’t done so yet, call and email your MP and your Senators. Make sure they know this vote isn’t a slam-dunk for them.
I have a question. Does getting the Emergencies Act legislation passed give the Trudeau government the power to ram through Bill C11 into law? If so we are screwed.

Lots of people could stop him. Lots. Starting with members of his own caucus. Then there’s the NDP. Or all the premiers could vehemently refuse to endorse implementation of the Emergencies Act within their province. Or the courts could intervene. Seizure/freezing of accounts on the pretext of “financing terrorism” is ludicrous and gross overreach on its face. A court could say the government’s actual use of the law is not a proper use as prescribed. The bureaucrats could down tools. The banks could refuse to comply. Canadians from coast to coast could rise up in protest.

I am wondering how quickly a legal challenge can be mounted, the concept of freezing bank accounts because some past donations now appear retroactively illegal (i.e., they support a cause now deemed to be illegal, but not so at the time of donation) seems to violate basic legal concepts. Every leftist in Canada should carefully consider what pre-crimes they might be committing if the political winds change, maybe in 2025 some conservative government will decide to freeze the bank accounts of everyone who gave to environmental causes, Greenpeace, almost anything vaguely progressive.
Once this sort of thing gets loose, you can’t easily put it back in the bottle. 99% of the people who might have donated to the truckers convoy funds two or three weeks ago were probably thinking along these lines — the convoys have the same basic aim as myself, an end to all mandates and a return to normal living. Now that the convoys have done whatever they did and those things have been retroactively defined as illegal, what was a reasonable and rational decision is cast as the equivalent of terrorist support. This is ridiculous and bound to lead to severe regional tensions in Canada given the differences between east and west (or prairies and BC) in regard to support levels for the mandates and the protests.
I hope parliament has the good sense to render this legislation null and void before it spirals into a crisis. If they confine the bank operations to a few accounts of key organizers, that would be one thing, if they extend it to thousands of ordinary citizens who have no other way to signal their discontent (the past record of the Opposition in parliament being what it was until the past few days) then there will be trouble, provincial premiers in the west will no doubt find it expedient to return to earlier anti-Ottawa positions and trouble will escalate. As it probably should given the arrogance and self-interest of the current government and its cynical partner(s) in a minority parliament.
A word of caution to anyone who is withdrawing money from their bank in cash. Make sure you have a very safe hiding place, in case the police come to seize it directly when the bank tells them you cleaned out your account. Also, if you were a donor to givesendgo and you are doxxed you could become a target of ordinary criminals based on the reasonable supposition that you have withdrawn funds from the bank to protect them from government seizure.
Since the “they hate us for our freedoms” attack on 9-11, the government has required the government-regulated banking system to monitor all of its customer activity closely, under the mandate “know your customer”.
All transactions over $10,000 require the banks to complete a “suspicious activity” report to Fintrac.
If a customer withdraws money repeatedly in amounts less than $10,000, the banks will report “potential structuring” activity, which is a criminal offence, if the withdrawals were made to intentionally avoid the $10,000 threshold.
In the US recently, the IRS wanted all financial transactions over $500 (?) to be reported to the agency. The IRS also announced that facial recognition would be required of tax-filers to access certain online tax systems. The IRS subsequently relented on both requirements, which is its usual MO when wanting to gradually accustom people to onerous new mandates.

1) The American “machine” is watching. Don’t be predictable.
2) The bogus 2020 election was effective since those living off profit, mostly GOP, felt that their financial future was safe. They did nothing to resist the coup. Be very careful about who you might depend on. Some folks will only respond if there are “$$$”s in the equation. “Freedom” has no cash value to them.
