  1. o Wear a hoodie indoors. Most body heat is lost through the head

o Wear a toque indoors – see above

o Double socks keep feet warmer than one pair.

o If you can afford it, Canada Goose makes many fine garments rated down to -58 deg. F

o Sit under a blanket Fort while reading a book. No TV … it takes too much scarce energy to operate.

    1. ° When finished said book, gather the family ‘round to burn it in the fireplace. Enjoy the entertaining glow and imagine the warmth a roaring fire would provide.

  2. Change your LED light bulbs for good ole’ incandescent light bulbs, they emit a lot of heat that your central heating will not have to work as hard to provide you with.

Yup this is a scientific fact.

    1. My TV is an old Pioneer Elite Plasma … it gets so hot you can burn your finger if you leave it on the screen too long

      1. Turn on the holiday fireplace channel and it will be even warmer!
(BTW: the holiday fireplace channel is an actual channel on Canadian cable TV. Not sure about the US)

        1. Hey, I tried that once…those crackling embers were so inviting…

The wife and I tried snuggling but that didn’t work when we both got frisky.
Throwing the covers off just made us colder.

    2. Not many incandescent bulbs to be found these days. I stocked up on GE & Sylvana 3 or 4 years ago, but am just about out now. So I ordered some online because I prefer the quality of the light over LEDs, but they weren’t all that easy to find. And the bulbs I got seemed second rate – the metal base of one was odd, and they don’t last very long.

    3. CF, I have two cases of incandescent bulbs. Bought them over 13 years ago when this bullshit about light bulbs started. It quite amazing how few of them I have used in that time.

      1. I stocked up with a variety of bulbs in 3 large boxes when they were threatened with selling them being banned. Baseboard heater or incandescent bulb, use both to heat my house….

        1. Guys, You can still buy 100w contractor work light bulbs. A harsh light, but at least it’s still available.

    1. If that becomes policy in B. C., I guess I might be seeing a lot of my canine step-brother when I go to my house in during the winter.

Then again, any time is a good time to give him a good cuddle.

  3. The amount of heat radiated by a closed oven and an open oven is the same. It adds up to the amount of heat that was in the oven in the 1st place. These people, and the idiots who believe them, are scientifically illiterate.

    1. Only the chocolate chip…
Not sure about the OREO’s because of the white stuff.
Weird Al has a good song on that subject.

  4. Go to the king’s forest, cut down a tree, haul as much as you can home, and next year at this time you’ll have some decent firewood.

Look loving into your sad English girl’s eyes, lie to her of how beautiful she is, then have sex with her, that’ll help.

and, what exactly do the Brits get for this additional tax?

  5. Bottle dog farts for use later.

Only funny If you met Tazer

    Or

How about we get an infrastructure capable of keeping us warm? Using easily accessible natural resources???

  6. Try to get infected by some sort of virus that gives you a fever. Hey! A thought occurs to me ……

  7. Yeah everyone… what were you thinking? That we deserve modern, forced air heating to keep us comfortable? Next you’ll be hearkening back to bright light bulbs. Just like air travel now, we just don’t deserve those things anymore.

    1. I do the ‘fuck you’ government and turn up the thermostat to a more comfortable temperature.
A little more cost but the comfort from it is worth it.

  8. You lose heat through whatever is exposed to the air. 3 wick candles, in a smaller room which is easier to heat. Down comforters. There are little tabletop firepits. Incandescent light bulbs are available at some grocery stores.
And, how about some sensible utility companies and governments.

    1. It just disappears into the 8th dimension. That’s why, if you just leave your oven door open a crack when its off, it turns into an air-conditioner.

    1. Three dogs in the swag. Frost on the canvas, but I’m warm.
Can’t breathe, but I’m warm, ok?

  9. Well at 30 below when you are dressing out a moose or caribou, warming your hands in the steaming entrails works really well.
I assume whale guts work as well..
And there are an awful lot of Land Whales pushing the collapse of civilization..

Of course burning the homes of the halfwits who regulated you into fuel poverty..that there is a much more British pastime, usually leaving the occupants inside..

    1. You can still keep warm by the crackling fire your standing by.

We don’t exactly live in a warm country and butchering in the cold was almost natural in keeping your hands warm out in the freezing barn.
You didn’t have a stove out there as the hay was quite flammable.

  10. Ok….. so we go back to the single room hovel, shared by the livestock so that their body-warmth helps warm the room.

I know from practical experience that 2-3 dogs under tge doona is very warming. Hairy hot-water-bottles. The trick is to get them down at your feet. They prefer to jamn themselves hard against ribs or back.

  11. Enqire as to weather your said political candidate is a mental case. Woke or what not. Then vote accordingly.

  12. From the site:

“SSE’s vision is to be a leading energy company in a low carbon world.

To achieve this we’ve set four fundamental goals for 2030, putting sustainability at the heart of our strategy.

These goals are not just important to SSE, they matter to everyone – that’s why they’re directly linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

There you go. UN sustainable development goals. I’d say it’s working.

  13. Fill your house with (cute) hot flashing post menopausal women. Noise cancelling headphones required…..May interrupt quality time between you and your tv…..

  14. Open the curtains in the winter? I live in Winnipeg. Windows are cold. The curtains help insulate the room from the windows.

Open the oven door after cooking? So are you saying that if you leave the oven door closed the 1st Law of Thermodynamics in no longer valid and all the thermal energy inside the oven vanishes? The heat still leaks out into your house.
