    MONTREAL — Many large big-box stores in Quebec will require a vaccine passport for entry come Jan. 24 as part of a shift in COVID-19 health measures introduced by the provincial government earlier this week. Some retailers say that it could make for an overall loss in revenue, even if it does encourage more people to get their shot.

    The measure will apply to businesses larger than 1,500 square metres. Pharmacies and grocery stores are exempt.

      Morrison back at the start of this farce decided to form a ‘National Cabinet’ so that he could fence sit and let the States handle the health response. For those playing at home the National Cabinet was formed with the PM and his little friends and the State Premiers. (spoiler – this is not how our Constitution works, but ‘Emergency Powers’)

      So now the States basically are doing what they want and openly ignoring Canberra.

      Then in late Nov/early Dec Stairman Dan (dictator for life of the People’s State of DanAndrews – formally known as Victoria) discovered he couldn’t continue his pissing contest with Gladys (Chief Mother in Law of NSW) after she got charged with being Hunter level corrupt. So he suddenly makes a statement telling his worshipers that since they have given up their first born they can now look forward to enjoying the Boxing Day Test (Cricket) and the Australian Open (tennis) as a reward.

      Dan promised.

      (okay – the secondary discussion on how ‘big sport’ gets to run events but the great unwashed are not allowed to have a backyard bbq)

      So Dan promised and Tennis Australia promised and they needed the World Number One and because refused to conform or deny he had taken a knee and raised a sleeve, Vic Gov and Tennis Australia had to bend a few rules.

      Except Canberra controls the borders and Canberra were LEGALLY right to say “Hang on! We made rules! We wrote them down and everything! Quick! Put our foot down and make some examples of people before we lose all of our respect!”

      So they did, mainly to put Dan back in his box (remember that Morrison and Dan are from two violently different political parties.)

      AND THEY FARCED IT UP.

      Then they doubled down. Originally they COULD have just said they were Only Following Orders (and also “I love my job”) but then, after getting trashed legally, they went down the path of cancelling him PERSONALLY.

    I am slightly older and more or less grew up with the first three movies and like them… more or less.

    I appreciate the cultural aspects of Star Wars – the way the sound of a light saber is known by just about everyone – and keep telling myself I don’t REALLY like the movies.

    Then I stumble across the Death Star battle and 13mins of eyes glued to the screen later… HOW COOL WAS… I mean… that was okay…

    Interesting little trio of movies. Shame they never made any more.

        1. I have no love of professional team “sports events” either, but did enjoy concerts and motocross events at the Saddle Dome in my youth.

          Along with Trade Shows, gun shows, car shows, RV shows, Monster Trucks, and other non-hockey attractions, a big community arena properly managed usually has something for most people who care to get off the couch from time to time.

          1. If the “City” wants a new arena, build it to last longer than the Saddledome. Make it “sustainable”, meaning easily renovated, altered, major systems like mech and elec, ice system.
            Demolishing the Saddledome after 40 yrs is laughable.
            There’s city run arenas older than that.
            Make all the seating cheap, and let the “teams” charge whatever.
            Don’t build a “palace”.

            How long was the building before it (Stampede Corral?) in existence?

            As for demolishing a building after 40 years, don’t laugh. The Bank of Montreal used to have its main branch on Jasper Avenue near the Edmonton Journal and the Chateau Lacombe. In 1984, it was relocated about two blocks north to where the old iconic Tegler Building stood.

            That relocation wasn’t without controversy. Citizens petitioned City Hall to have the TB preserved, but it did no good. The old structure was torn down, a new one put in its place, and the bank moved in.

            A lot of the older stores near the bank’s newer location closed in the last dozen or so years. They were torn down and a new skyscraper was built on that property. The bank moved in, abandoning its 1980s building after some 35 years. And, yes, the 1980s building, too, was torn down a while back. Since I rarely go downtown nowadays, I have no idea what’s in its place.

            As for the first location of BMO’s main branch (i. e., across the street from the Journal), it was empty for a number of years but, the last time I was in the area, it had been taken over and refurbished by a large engineering firm, but don’t quote me on that.

  20. Dumb Biker…If you have not been watching the clips of Question period on SDA the last year or so here is a little secret…It’s ALL just theater. You ask a question you get a BS non answer. After a while even the cat has had enough and walks away. Steve O

    1. The questions are submitted in advance as well. Go to the Parliament web page. You can review the questions that will be asked in Question Period. There are no out-of-the-blue “gotcha” questions.
      I am not sure but follow up questions might even have to be submitted.

      Thx, but I can’t be bothered to follow that soap opera. It’s nothing more than a joke.

      As far as previewing the questions, when I requested a phone call from my MP, her secretary (or whatever) was quite distressed when I wouldn’t reveal the nature of my phone call. I told her I had a list of 33 questions, which one would she like to hear? She followed up with, OK, generally what is the major issue? I replied that I was generally pissed off with the “Conservatives”. When the call finally came there were a number of gotcha’s and those were the ones that flustered her the most. I don’t know why politicians feel the need to have an immediate answer for every question. “I’m sorry, I don’t have that information right now. Can I get back to you on that?” is a perfectly acceptable response.

    1. The Democrats are going to get thoroughly manhandled in the November midterms but it is still a whole year until the new Congress takes over.
