    1. @Arty Right. They saw the forecast was for cold weather so they quickly slapped together a huge coal power station and now they are toasty and warm.
      Amazing.
      But what’s this?
China, under fire for approving new coal power stations as other countries try to curb greenhouse gases, has completed the first 1,000-megawatt unit of the Shanghaimiao plant, the biggest of its kind under construction in the country. […]
China is responsible for more than half of global coal-fired power generation and is expected to see a 9-per-cent year-on-year increase in 2021, an International Energy Agency report published this month said. […]
A report published this month by researchers at China’s State Grid Corp. said energy security concerns mean the country is likely to build as much as 150 gigawatts (GW) of new coal-fired power capacity over the 2021-25 period, bringing the total to 1,230 GW.

      1. Whatever strokes your CO2 neurosis, I’ve never bought into it myself. I’m more concerned about China’s other shortcomings, real pollution, strip mining the oceans, organ harvesting, increasing belligerence, disease epicentre etc. But I’m too old to get real worked up about those things even.

        1. @Arty Whatever strokes your CO2 neurosis, I’ve never bought into it myself. Ho-hum.

My CO2 neurosis? You must mean your mental disability.

Western governments are making disastrous policy decisions in an insane attempt to stop “catastrophic climate change”. This article merely highlights the idiocy of destroying our own economies with “green new deals” using borrowed money. Meanwhile China builds more coal power stations, which we are shutting down. The fact that they signed a piece of paper saying they’re going to stop some day, means nothing.

You may not be interested in war climate change, but war climate change is interested in you.

          1. China and India are refusing to share our fantasy. We’ll eventually move beyond it too but not until we’ve traded the cow for some magic beans.

        1. @very old white guy Yes, the Chinese understand it’s not a pollutant, but they didn’t fire up this “giant coal power plant in face of cold weather” as Arty said. Weather had nothing to do with it. It’s for China’s latest “great leap forward” in which they’re leapfrogging over the US and the EU. They continue to build power plants at a rapid pace, while Western nations are busy shutting them down and wrecking their own economies. Unless the Chinese communist government implodes like the USSR — a possibility but it seems unlikely at this point — they will soon dominate the world. To some extent they do already.

    1. Latitude, I mis-read that phrase – I read: for the past 50 years…..all of Covid increase has come from China and I thought, so true.

    2. The part I get the most amusement from is that for the past ten years or so, China has a larger per capita carbon footprint than the EU, one of the most suicidal jurisdictions. If the Europeans ever catch on, heat will will be produced by burning environmentalists. The heat content of environmentalists is measured in Merkels in Europe and in Gores in the US

    1. Neither are they woke. Never before has a world war been won so easily, basically unless you count the Wuflu, without firing a shot.

  1. I remember debating on The Guardian site back when it was a great place to do so. The Guardian was gushing on how China and India were so co-operative when it came to international climate agreements, and how America should follow their lead.

And I made the point that signatures on paper meant nothing, and that these countries would be responsible for massive increases in CO2 emmissions in the coming decades, overwhelming any abatement in Europe and North America.

It was not a popular position. Symbolism seemed to be more important than reality with The Guardian readers. I wonder if they’ve reconsidered.

  2. As far as cheep, safe and reliable coal is hard to beat when it comes to electricity.

I’d suggest buying generators to supply your own emergency electricity the way Trudeau’s Canada is pushing for wind power and renewable power.

Remember when the grid crashed in Texas. Think of that happening in Canada when it’s -30. Won’t take long to freeze the liberal voters.

  3. They’ve been stockpiling grain and fertilizer as well. It’s possible they know something we don’t.

    1. Good time to break away from the US Reserve Currency Status as complete Chaos is currently running rampant in the Western Nations as soon now they’ll start to realize their own governments and politicians locked them down for sweet fuck all.

It being prepared as they know the economy will eventually collapse on itself with debt and idiots that they helped to put in our government power positions.
      Not a brain amount them.

  4. China, also, has eighteen (18) new nuclear power plants slated to come online by 2027. The closest country to that number is India who has seven (7) set to come online in the same time frame. US…two (2). UK…two (2). Canada… zero (0)

  5. I’m not going to hold this against China. I used to burn coal for heat, and never had an issue with Pennsylvania using its significant coal reserves.
However I don’t know much about the quality of China’s coal. I burned Anthracite, which is exceptionally clean burning. It just sits there and glows red. By contrast, I only burned wood as a last resort. Now that is a dirty fuel.

    1. C

Yep…pre ordained if ya ask me. 1 month of Screeching “Omigodicron”…and here we have 300 or so of likely the healthiest have their tournament cancelled over what amounts to the Common Cold….although, I’m not all that sure of what said supposed bug would do to those Dbl vaxxed..??

      Time will tell..

      1. and here we have 300 or so of likely the healthiest have their tournament cancelled over what amounts to the Common Cold
Perhaps, or maybe they don’t want these healthy fully vaccinated kids to drop dead from heart attacks and really screw up the narrative.

  6. But but but glowbull wormening,
Don’t they care about climate change?
Oh wait they’re the self assured Chicom terminator not the gullible self-flagellating westerners.

  7. The Chicoms protect themselves.

It’ll be easy to take over a land where 9/10 of the people are frozen.

  8. We shall use exactly the same memes of compliance,When the Nation of Buffalo rises from the ruin of Can Ahh Duh..
Oh yes,you impotent nitwits,we will meet your request..in 30 years or so..
    Promise.

  9. Should be good for Alberta. Send those coal trains out through BC to Pt Robert’s.

I’m not sure what % of the world’s coal reserves Canada has but it is significant.

    1. At 8:00pm MST Alberta coal is running at 80% capacity, approx 2x what wind is supplying to the grid. Solar=zero, in the darkness.
Nat gas is now the largest installed generation.
As long as wind & solar are down the list we good.
