  5. I just finished watching the first episode of the 1985 TV mini-series, The Last Place on Earth:

    It’s about the race to the South Pole between Capt. Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen. It stars Martin Shaw as Scott and Sverr Anker Ousdal as Amundsen with Brian Dennehy as Dr. Frederick Cook (who lost the race to the North Pole to Adm. Robert Peary) and Max von Sydow as Dr. Fridtjof Nansen.

    One criticism I have is that I think Scott was unfairly portrayed as an arrogant dolt. According to a biographer of Amundsen (who was interviewed by John Batchelor), Scott’s team encountered extremely bad weather, the severity of which happened on rare occasions and could not have been foreseen.

    Still, those were events that happened when real men did real things and were encouraged to do so by statements such as Ernest Shackleton’s call for volunteers for an expedition to the Antarctic:

    “Men wanted for hazardous journey to the South Pole. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger. Safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success.”

    No safe spaces or wokeness back then.

    4. I had a long road trip to take and a friend lent me the audio book Endurance about Shackleton’s first person account of saving all of his crew trapped in the ice by sailing an open boat from Antarctica through the worst seas known to the whaling station at South Georgia where he found help.

        That voyage was re-created for a series that was shown on PBS a few years ago. The reenactors had a hard time even after they got on shore.

          They had a sextant for determining the angle between the horizon and a celestial body such as the sun, the moon, or a star, to determine latitude and longitude but with the seas running 10 to 15 foot swells and the sun mostly obscured by cloud they were forced to mostly rely on dead reckoning. It was an heroic display of sailing under nearly impossible conditions; Shackleton was one tough bastard.

  10. Don’t know about other provinces but in Ontario I see little benefit in having a “family” doctor. It’s almost impossible to get timely appointments, either via telephone or in office….hospital “emergency” visits are where it’s at and long waits to see a doctor in that setting.

    Our medical system is an abject failure, ripe for errors and causing tons of anxiety for many.

      System is setup for Docs to be paid by number of registered patients. Even if you are never seen, the Doc gets a fee.

        Many visits to emergency are not considered emergencies, we go because our own doctors are not available when we need them such as for problems with medications like side effects and advice on what to do, etc.

    I believe I read that the women also will have this problem permanently as the placenta detaches now anytime the women gets pregnant again. Essentially these women are now sterile.

        METHODS
        From December 14, 2020, to February 28, 2021, we used data from the “v-safe after vaccination health checker” surveillance system, the v-safe pregnancy registry, and the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) to characterize the initial safety of mRNA Covid-19 vaccines in pregnant persons.

        CONCLUSIONS
        Preliminary findings did not show obvious safety signals among pregnant persons who received mRNA Covid-19 vaccines. However, more longitudinal follow-up, including follow-up of large numbers of women vaccinated earlier in pregnancy, is necessary to inform maternal, pregnancy, and infant outcomes.

        2. Wrong, it doesn’t mean it isn’t true. It means that the government is embarrassed to release the data because it clearly goes against the narrative (we wouldn’t want to do that now would we?) that these ‘vaccines’ are ‘safe and effective’. Or it means they are too lazy to investigate it and come clean about it.

          Since the spring of 2020 it has not been about the science; it’s about maintaining the narrative for permanent political expediency. There is no upside to the government to resolve this pandemic medically in the west. They simply don’t care about you. Instead they put all their eggs in the vaccine basket and want it to go on and on and on an on. Ask yourself why?

          I do a lot of research examining government data and scientific studies and it is clearly obvious to me there is a huge cover up and this ‘pandemic’ is a scam by both the political and medical establishment (which is funded by the politics and big pharma).

          Hat tip: Never trust anything on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube video or any news paper specific article for the ‘truth’. Use them only as a starting point investigate further with real statistics, studies (from reputable scientific research sources) and logic. Think about what they are NOT telling you.

          Do I believe this one doctor without actual data to back it up? Not sure, but it is plausible, I need further data.

          I do know that if there is a remote chance that to take an new and experimental injection that has not been thoroughly tested over several years (like most vaccines are) and can cause long term injury (like it did to my BIL) then it is a no go for me. It should be the same for everyone else with a thinking brain.

  14. Department of unintended consequences … after many years of pretending to know a lot about the weather, the BC government is now being blamed by some for not warning people that the storm of the 13th-15th would be that bad.

    How the heck would they know? There was certainly a dire enough forecast issued for the event, it didn’t come out of the blue, but as to what damage it could produce, that’s partly a set of unknowns based on a lot of factors other than just the moisture produced, such as the condition of infrastructure (poor in some cases), and just random chance like a particular tree coming down a creek and taking out a bridge.

    The new mantra is “atmospheric river” which is just new jargon for stalled frontal boundary. So the Yanks have a five point scale (like with tornado and hurricane forecasting) which I suppose conveys a simpler message but it still won’t predict exact consequences and it will be closely tied to what we already had which is specific event precip forecasts, temperatures at high elevations to melt snow, and runoff.

    It has been easy for many to be hoodwinked into thinking that this is all “climate change” which does not explain why very severe floods happened in 1948 and 1894. The concept that it’s just an event well within the boundaries of the climate won’t sell in this political climate, nobody could tax you for that. And nobody brings up the irony that our carbon taxes over a decade had absolutely no negative impact on either the heat dome or the November flood. And that is because we are only having a very marginal impact on the weather and we don’t really understand the processes, or how small the greenhouse gas factor actually is in a much more complex scenario.

    Nor will the political or media classes ever have the foggiest idea that they have been sold a crock by sharp investors who peddle solar panels, wind turbines, and now electric cars. By the time the irrelevance of their technology becomes apparent, we’ll all be gone anyway. Victims of age change.

  19. Here in the USA, it’s Thanksgiving Day. There are plenty of things for which not to be thankful this year, as there were last year, but, being one of those who has white privilege, I have much for which to be thankful. I have wonderful neighbors. The city (it has a city form of government; the population is a bit above 10,000 people) where I live is a place where I feel at home. The weather is just bad enough to keep New Yorkers and Californians from moving here.

    This web site is one of the things for which I’m thankful every year. I’ve learned a lot reading the posts and the comments, and I’ve always been treated well by others, so I’ll offer a big mid-western “Thank You!” to everybody here.

    What gets me is that, immediately following the speech, for two days, the corporate media cartel has been shoveling tons of commentary about the housing bubble. Yes, it is true that in the past the establishment media have spoke about high housing prices hurting prospective buyers. But the media have not talked about a bubble that could trigger a recession.

    But the counter-establishment media, including here at SDA, have been warning about a bubble burst for a long time. But nobody in power listens. They only listen, belatedly, when a powerful government figure speaks out.
