Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Did you see the extension cord on that tractor?
Love it! These “hope-the-sun shines” things and the so-called bird killers are created and maintained by using fossil fuel. And where do you bury them after they are of no use? I would suggest a huge green trash depot close to all Parliament buildings in Canada, covered with native grasses (weeds).
Hoping the Sun’s shining at night…damn, I’ve been had.
No power at all generating then, that’s why they sneak in the fossil fuels generators at night.
Backup up batteries are huge and expensive and don’t last long before needing replacements.
Oh, oh, I see hail coming…is that a tornado cloud forming?
Massive expenses for little return on this investment that your taking decades to cover the debt loads.
Shit, I can’t afford my cows now…
Just devices for laundering power .
I wonder how the Amish do it.
Kerosene lanterns. Oh nooooo! That’s a fossil fuel!
Far cheaper and more economical.
Government banned whale oil…
Whale oil is renewable and organic.
Grow more currant bushes.
The tractor us using more energy and producing more GHGs than the panels it is cleaning off. And it’s not close. It will take the panels at least a few months to produce the amount of energy the tractor is using. It’s long past time to understand that renewable energy like solar/wind was simply a scam to get us to consume more oil and gas.
…welllll…??? , I think it was more like a SCAM to ensure the Developers (at least of the large industrial sites, be they Wind or Solar) to scam the .03 – .05 $/kwhr FIT money into their & their Political backers Pockets, all their installations provided SFA for usable energy and substantially increased electrical costs…..due to this BS never being able to produce baseload power and more often than not, requiring very expensive Nat Gas back ups..
“DOWNWIND” the movie is an excellent expose….on the ENTIRE scam (Ontario), including the Fascist “killing” (by Gerald Butts no less), of any potential legal action a County could have previously proceeded with to prevent construction.
Wind is fine if you have a couple of 100′ towers with 15-20′ blades generating 3 ph, a large shed holding 24 Sarret 1V 3 ft tall batteries, a 5000W & better inverter or a home wired for 48V with appliances that can utilize said voltage…..yea better also have 3-4000 kw of Solar….oh, and you’ll likley need somewhere to hold the excess energy – maybe a 10-15,000 Gallon Tank via electrical heating strips or something like that….
Once you’ve done the cost benefit ratio…..its simply not worth it In my opinion unless you start at 20 yrs of age…, Built your own “2000 style home with every bit of it foamed insulation on 2 X 10 walls , triple pane windows etc etc….
Why bother…?? Once you’ve got it complete – it’ll be time to replace the batts..!!

Well no. the principal use of RE was to provide a figleaf for the antinuclear programs of the oil and gas companies. There was never any intent for them to be self-standing; any engineer can run the numbers and discover that, the more wind you build. the more gas you have to burn for an electrical system. And there is no such thing as a utility scale battery system capable of providing a significant amount of power for any significant time period. Nor will there ever be.
Obviously what you need to do is deploy them vertically, then they won’t get any dust on them…
or maybe get those protective tear off sheets like they have on the nascar cameras so that ever so often the sheet slides down and is clear again….
or drones… something with drones….!

No no no! Jobs jobs Jobs!
I mean, once CERB and all its variants finally runs out, what a make-work opportunity!
After a fully subsidized 3 year applied arts degree in Solar Healing Idiot Technology, every useless tit who wasn’t fortunate enough to land a public sector job could become a panel wiper!
Creating energy jobs is easy. Line everyone up, hand them an axe, point them at a woodlot and say, “Start cutting your firewood.” The question is how valuable the work is what what it achieves.
The squeegee kids finally have found their calling… although seems like too much work for them maybe.
I have often said that the only “green jobs” these things create are for illegal migrants, Manuel the gardener can keep the weeds from overgrowing them, and Consuela the maid can dust them.
We should be using solar mirrors to heat up giant pillars of salt … because I saw a Hollywood movie once that showed the “highly advanced society of Atlantis” using mirrors to burn the sails of enemy ships. And Popular Mechanics did multiple articles promising that all of mankind’s problems will be cured if we only used mirrors to heat up giant salt columns. So kewl. So fresh. So fresh. So innovative. So … bankrupt … So dead and non operational.
https://libertyunyielding.com/2020/12/14/an-obama-era-solar-failure-could-cost-taxpayers-510-million/
that is not all,
solar panels produce less electricity over time
after about 20 years they produce so little electricity that its better to replace them
recycling them is very complicated and uses a lot of energy
Solar and wind have some limited uses. They been using solar and wind chargers and a 6 volt battery on electric fences for like 100 years now. For pumping water into horse troughs, etc..
It is simply unsuited to a base load application. And it’s as pointless as arguing with an Atheist about God. It’s religion, and you’re a heretic if you don’t agree.
In cities they’re useful for powering safety lights or other low-wattage services where running a power line would be difficult. In my city they allow credit card parking terminals to be sited in any parking lot without having to tar up the tarmac to run cabling.
as long as everyone remembers that it takes four (4!!) dinner table-sized panels
in full sun to power a coffee maker, we’re all good; most people haven’t a clue how little energy a solar panel produces.
H
Exactly.
A two-foot by two-foot panel powers a single flashing red LED light at a rural highway intersection.
My town has 3 ‘Entry’ signs with really nice backlit letters that gently illuminate the signs at night. Yes, powered by a small solar panel.
They worked for about 1-month. Haven’t seen them illuminated ever since.
The person above in the comments who is throwing insults at Kate obviously has zero knowledge about solar panels.
In fact that person is very under informed not only about solar panels, but about electricity in general,
about how much energy is required to do any work or heat a house,
the cost,
the rare earth metals mined to make solar panels,
the fact solar panels quickly lose efficacy over time,
the fact they are almost impossible to recycle ,
and two dozen other things such as the fact that the largest solar plant in the world ( Crescent Dunes, Nevada) was abandoned as it was TOO INEFFICIENT and one that cost several million dollars in Medecine hat, Alberta was also abandonned as it was TOO INEFFICIENT.
People who love solar panels are usually ignorant about solar panel and electricity production.
They have no idea that even if you covered an entire car with solar panels, the electricity produced would barely be enough to run the radio.
They know NOTHING of the science behind solar or wind, yet call us science deniers.
Is that a solar powered tractor? And if it is was it made in a solar powered factory? Oh I bet there are no petroleum based parts on that tractor. Clearly it was made from the tears of mother earth herself and not a tree or squirrel was harmed in the production.
