Money For Nothing

Here are the results of the latest Carney/Blubber Dougie love-in: ever since Canada decided not to bother with any more trade negotiations with the US, taxpayers will now be expected to backfill the losses of those affected by the standoff.

A new “joint steel action fund” that includes $3.5 billion in funding from Canada and $1.7 billion from Ontario, spread out over five years, will assist steel companies in expanding the types of products they make.

The overall plan also includes $2.5 billion for the automotive sector — with the federal government chipping in $1.5 billion.

  1. Another Carney Victory.
The cost of Elbows Up is high and secret; but where is the CCP contribution?

  2. Canada,s economy is not an economy but a subsidy. Canada is not a serious country but a joke.

    1. Steel subsidies? Pay the steel companies to NOT produce steel that nobody wants?

And you thought Farm subsidies were absurd.

    2. Canada’s economy consists mostly of monopolies. Once you understand this it all makes sense. It’s a case of which monopoly gets government money, not so much what industry.

  3. Not surprisingly, this announcement is right after Oct 19. Wonder where the money to fund this is going to come from?

    1. The taxpayers’ funds and equity because there is no public spending except irresponsible public spending.

  6. How can any Canadian hate Trump, more than the will-knots that run this place? Really, who’s going to be the bogeyman when Trump’s gone?
Suicidal empathy, and dumber than a bag of hammers. One thing does ring true more every day: ignorance is bliss.
True misery awaits Canadians, that is if they even friggin’ notice.

  8. “The move to protect jobs comes as the clock ticks down toward a deadline for the U.S.-based owners of Stelco to respond to Industry Minister Mélanie Joly, who wrote to them last week to demand they uphold job commitments made when they bought the Ontario company.”

I thought Stelco already responded: LOLGF to the government

Joly says everything is on the table, except making a deal with the US

  9. When you raise your elbows (or when the government forces you to raise them) your pockets (and wallets) are left unprotected.

  10. Communism by any other name.
    “Investing in industry”.
“Offering bridging loans”,which the industry will never be able to pay back,as government policy will ensure industry remains crippled and uncompetitive.
So “government” will take over and socialize the horrendous losses, while paying huge bonuses to the Liberal bag-creatures,pretending to operate said failed industry.
All the while specifying Chinese Steel for all federal contracts.
    In the fine print $ 9 000 000 000 to “save” 100 000 jobs.
