With climate change being the 800-pound gorilla in the room, one of the drum beats is to reduce animal agriculture’s contribution to greenhouse gases (GHG) by reducing the numbers of beef cattle. The Western Watersheds Project, a nonprofit environmental conservation group founded in 1993, is an advocate for a reduction in beef consumption in our diets. The reduced beef consumption would require fewer acres of land devoted to producing food and fiber for beef cattle. However, much of the land devoted to grazing is utilizing a resource that humans cannot consume (grasses).
It’s why the eco-Marxist Trudeau Liberals seem impervious to arguments that the escalating carbon tax will destroy western Canadian grain and beef production — it’s not a bug. It’s a feature.

Has anyone ever studied the possibility that grasses simply left to grow/rot over the seasons and eaten by small animals and bugs likely produces the the same amount of gases; but does not produce food for human consumption as it would with livestock? At some point Westerners have to accept that there is no place for them in Canada. The economic and cultural identity of eastern Canada has no connection to the West. In the coming election Westerners have to vote for the Maverick Party if there is a candidate, if not then park your vote with the PPC until there is. The CPC has to be destroyed in the West. Pressure has to be placed on Kenney and Scott Moe to start de-coupling of federal/provincial institutions. That means pensions and policing. That is fundamental. As Bernier recently pointed out, if the West does not make those fundamental choices they will not be taken seriously. To date it sounds like a lot of whining out of the West, as usual.
Alberta and Saskatchewan should be meeting with Quebec to form a joint effort to limit federal power in Canada. I doubt Quebec will support this as they receive billions of $’s each year to play along with Ottawa. From a propaganda perspective it is a winner for the West. As a British Columbian I continue to be embarrassed by my provincial government and many of the people in the lower mainland. That said I think the support for a distinct Western Canada will gain quick support in BC if leadership is shown on the Prairies. I was sort of kidding. In reality, I did try rabbit once. It’s not much better nutritionally than snacks like trail mix, etc. The pies I made were mixed with a bit of beef and pork. I guess I got good advice to mix it in with other meat but I never bothered making them again, they were a little too ‘earthy’ tasting for me but others liked it. In a pinch, though, I’d eat that again rather than nothing. Let’s hope we never get to that here in Venezuela, ah, I mean, Canada. One never knows what will happen with the political sociopaths we now have running things. We need hope and change!

I knew this guy from the city who, as a youngster, would go hay making at his relatives place in the country in July. He told the story how his eyes went big when the meal at noon was T-Bone steak. The relatives loved him dearly and appreciated his free labor. Out of the blue, when working, he’d start singing the latest hit songs from the 50s hit parade. He was quite a singer. They all listened as they’d work till the work was done. Friend passed away a couple of years ago. He was so loved and is missed.

And cannot crop effectively for a variety of reasons such as lack of rain and groundwater for irrigation, hilly terrain, stones, and potholes. Grazing is truly a way to create value where there is otherwise none.
When I first heard the environmentalists attacking beef production as a poor land use, I knew they were propagating another lie on the uninformed urbanites. My father-in-law was a cow-calf farmer in Alberta. His grazing land was arid, alkaline soil that would grow nothing but grass. He cropped every quarter section he could. Why, because he could make a lot more money raising crops over raising cattle. I remember him breaking up grassland and trying to crop it only to eventually reseed it back to grass after a number of crop failures.

Cattle are truly amazing chemical factories when you think about it. You give them simply grass, water, oxygen and sunlight, and they produce meat (which is full of protein, amino acids, etc.), leather, milk, and more.
But global warming cultists want to demonize anything and everything related to progress.
