The Cheque Is In The Mail

Blacklocks- Losses Rise, Prices To Follow

The post office reported a $748 million pre-tax loss last year, its steepest loss since the pandemic struck in 2020. Management blamed an ongoing 17-year decline in letter volumes and surprise loss of market share in parcel deliveries to non-union rivals like Amazon.

“These low-cost private operators have gained significant ground particularly in the last two years by focusing on serving international retail giants,” wrote management. “Our estimated market share in parcel delivery has quickly eroded by more than half.”

  1. Low cost private operators = companies miles and miles more efficient than the useless quasi government agency.

  2. If CP’s courier service is losing market share there must be a sound business reason: climate change, lack of diversity, racism, colonialism, or white privilege.

Or perhaps your rates aren’t competitive.

I order lots of items online, and my favorite delivery service is Intelcom, fast and they warn you they’re on the way about 3 hours before they make delivery.
Maybe the postal service as it was originally established is no longer needed, like a modern day Pony Express.

The salary of the Prez of CP is surprisingly low at only $500,000 per. Hell, the Prez of B.C. ferries make more than that!

    1. Hey!
They will make it up in the new real estate going to built above each office as Dear Leader sayz.

  3. If the gov’t refuses to grant “right to work” and hobbles non union companies it should be noted that people have the right to use non unionised companies for their day to day activities.

    I’m somewhat pleased that the #Libranos gov’t of tier 2 Canada doesn’t see this…
    It confirms some things.

  4. I buy and sell vinyl (records) utilizing the special USPS “Media Mail” rates. When I started collecting again … about 10 years ago, the media Mail was about $2.00 for a uniform vinyl mailer box. It’s now $4.13 min. increasing by weight. Typically … about $4.50 will get a single lp shipped in (usually) about 5-days.

If the rates go up … the USPS may price themselves out of this market segment, and vinyl buyers and sellers will look for more cost-effective shipping methods.

Psssst … hey quasi-government entity! There is such a thing as pricing yourselves OUT of the market. You may have read about it in your Econ 1a textbook?

      1. I found a Shakin’ Pyramids album on Queen St. For a buck fifty the other day. ~:D

  5. Liberal gov’t be all like “Y’all ready to collect those guns now?”

    1. The rating agencies lost most of their credibility when a souple were caught fudging ratings during the ’08 housing crash. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if they were one of the first financial institutions that were infiltrated and co-opted to the globalist agenda.

  6. “The cheque is in the mail.” ranks right up there with “The dog ate my homework.” but the third biggest fib and the one least recognized is the supposedly obligatory letter sent by Canadian banks “Our records show that your account is dormant.” The Canadian banks have turned over to the Bank of Canada somewhere in the neighbourhood of a billion and a half dollars taken from ‘dormant’ accounts. Very convenient for the Bank of Canada to receive these funds and hold them in custody.

And we all thought the UK Postal scandall was big, nobody knows how much money the Canadian banks are holding in “dormant” accounts, what is turned over to the Bank of Canada after a ten year dormancy period is only a fraction of the funds the banks hold of customers money.

  7. To paraphrase PJ O’Rourke, wouldn’t it be something if government concentrated on national defence and jailing criminals, and let UPS deliver the g-d mail?

The feds could eff up a ham sandwich.

    1. The Feds couldn’t organize a free beer dispenser in the middle of the Sahara Desert!

    2. A ham sandwich? They have the merde touch. They would eff up a rock fight.

  8. Canada Post has not delivered any successful orders to my address recently, unless it is tiny. Mail is late or missing.

  9. I suggested over a decade ago to my MP that they should utilize the Greyhound bus service for toting mail and parcels around the country. They could have put mail into trailers towed behind the bus. 2 birds with one stone so to speak.
He looked at me with a dumb look on his face. I’m sure his union support would have quashed that idea.
Now Greyhound is gone from Canada.

    Were you surprised?

  11. Heh…you mean the average drooling idiot can move a package from one place to another for less than $20/hr? Who knew?

    1. What I love about the Posties is that $20/hr is poverty now. Remember when they got $15/hr and everybody else was working for $5/hr? Yeah, payback is a beeotch. >:D

  12. Canada Post needs to go right after the CBC. Let Fed Ex, Amazon Prime, Purolator delivery the mail. They’ll actually deliver the mail, and do it 7 days a week.
