The Potholes Will Have To Wait

There’s more important things to deal with first.

Calgary Herald- ‘Just get rid of it’: Single-use items bylaw repeal public hearing to be held Tuesday

The new rules — still technically in effect — require grocery stores, restaurants and other food vendors to impose a minimum $0.15 surcharge on customers for a paper bag or $1 for a new reusable cloth bag at the point of sale. Those rates would have climbed to $0.25 and $2 respectively in 2025.

The bylaw also put the onus on customers to request single-use items and foodware accessories, such as napkins and plastic utensils.

    1. Then the rest of Alberta needs to separate from Calgary and Edmonton.

  1. I cannot believe that the taxpayers didn’t revolt against this crap imposed by our ”Betters”
Seems as well, that the 10% tax increase has just been accepted – just some sniveling around the kitchen table.
    What a bunch of losers!

    .
We already have that here in Toronto…
I ordered from K-Fried-C the other day and I sat down to eat and realized when I opened the bag that there wasn’t a fork for the coleslaw or any napkins.
Can you imagine eating K-Fried-C and they don’t even give you napkins!
You have to ask for them.
You have to ask for napkins at.. K-Fried-C !!!

  3. The current toronto bylaw requires you to ask for bags, napkins, forks, straws, and cups, which is stupid for drive thru…

I make a point of asking for extra of all of the above, since if I have to ask, I might as well ask for multiples.

And then send the extras to my useless councilor.

  4. I couldn’t imagine being a politician, if you were half sensible you would be attacked every day by our betters in the media and completely useless incompetent left wing opponents. On top of that you’d spend all your time with completely useless bureaucrats trying to get anything done. I’d rather poke needles in my eyes.

  5. Consumers pay twice for that container; first when the business accounts for the cost of containers, and again when Gondek mandates businesses “must impose a surcharge on customers”. It’s another attack on the private sector.
