    The way this med shit is being manufactured and stockpiled one gets the impression that we will forever more be obliged to wear those fucking masks for the slightest of health reasons

      Was at Uhaul yesterday to get a trailer and didn’t have the mask over my nose.
      Got yelled at to pull it up.
      I made the mistake of saying I got asthma and can’t breathe with the bloody thing on.
      Guess what.
      Didn’t get the trailer.
      Got booted out and a permanent red flag attached to my account which will bar me in the future from renting from them if they so choose.
      I gotta buy my own , but the screws are digging in deeper.

      2. Yup. I’m reminded about that every time I try to fly either to or from my house in B. C. Airline staff Stasi and security Red Guards are obsessed with my nose not being “properly” covered. Those people don’t impress me as being all that bright and I’m quite sure they love the power they get to exercise.

        One problem is that one can’t even be sarcastic about it without being threatened by them. Woe betide one if one shows even the slightest resistance.

      3. A couple of days ago I went to the Hospital Oncology Centre for my scheduled Chemo blood checks. You wait in a large Atrium waiting area with about 20 other patients until called, and after, you have to wait approximately 3/4 hour for the results to be processed. So far so good. Since this is early morning and I have not eaten since previous night I am hungry and my usual response has been to walk down the corridor, around the corner, to the other side of the Hospital where there is an in house Tim Hortons franchise doing great business, despite all the placards on all the walls stating no food or drink allowed. I buy my usual muffin and coffee and return to the Atrium waiting area. As I open the muffin bag and take a bite Nurse Ratched appears and tells me, by name, in a loud voice for all to hear, and no uncertain terms “No Food Allowed in the Hospital”. Cowed, I shrink back in my chair and comply. Who am I to question their diktats. Just get in the damn box car why don`t you.

        1. DHL, Maybe you should have asked loudly in reply, WHY! Will the food affect the hospital operation in some way? then how come they serve, a sort of, “Food” to the patients in the wards? Probably her reply would have been, “that’s the rules”, which my loud reply would be, “I don’t agree with the rules, just because they are rules, they need to have some valid reason to exist”. I know it’s easy for me to pontificate after the fact, but I like to mess with such “Kens and Karens” just because!
          So I do when ever the opportunity arises 🙂

            A while back, I severely injured my thumb. I checked into an emergency ward and, after waiting for 2 hours, it was my turn. I was escorted to a bed and told to change into a hospital gown. I looked at her and told her that it was my thumb that needed attention and I surely didn’t need to undress for that.

            She shrugged her shoulders and told me those were “the rules”, but she didn’t force me to change. But that was well before this virus horse hockey, so I imagine nowadays I’d be ordered to do as she would tell me or else.

      5. John Bosley… it is against peoples human right to refuse service… you should have said you had an exemption of which you do not have to prove.
        It is also against the law to refuse you service, you should file a human rights complaint against U-Haul for discrimination.
        It is against the law to discriminate service for any reason, whether it be religious, colour of skin. french language, or choice of clothing it is against the law to discriminate. They can’t refuse service because you are black or irish or because you have asthma.
        If you have the time you should make a human rights complaint on the basis of discrimination. For the hell of it.

    1. in order to be able to sell to hospitals, you have to jump through a whole bunch of hoops to get Health Canada approval, which costs money, and takes a long time, and thus is slanting towards the incumbents…

      it’s similar to what a large number of N95 (construction) mask manufacturers went through when they offered to provide N95 masks to the medical community, and the health authorities told them they needed to get the N95 (medical) approval before they would be allowed, despite both doing the same thing

    There’s never been a shortage of surgical masks.

    1. My mask lasts for months. Hangs from rearview. When I lose it, go to big box, get another.

      I wear it just on tip of nose so its real loosey goosey on sides and air flows nice and easy.

  15. Any mask that actually blocks the ChiCom virus is barely breathable so for the only good these masks do (prevent droplets from passage), you can buy machine washable cloth lined face-diapers to appease the store owners complying with the Health Gestapo.

      John, that is not the case. Any construction-grade N-95 dust mask will certainly block droplets, and a properly fitted organic-fume paint respirator with N-95 replaceable filters will filter out the virus itself. According to 3M, the N-95 can filter out at least 95% of test particles which are smaller than the virus. Comfortable enough to wear all day long while working. If you are extra-super-duper paranoid you can go N-99, which filters 99% of test particles. That’s what they wear for asbestos abatement. A little Google will tell you how big the virus is and how big the test particles are, I looked it up but I can’t quote it from memory. Research builds character.

      So I wear the big frreakin’ 3M paint mask when I go anywhere. You want a mask, @55h0lle5? THIS is a mask! Comply as inconveniently and ridiculously as possible, make them look stupid and unreasonable whenever you can. Maybe wear the full DefCon5 paint mask with built-in eye protection and the hooded paper suit too with the little disposable booties over your shoes. It looks like what you wear when T-Virus is escaping in Raccoon City. If I was getting on an airplane, I’d wear that just to be annoying. But Hell will freeze over before I get on an airplane these days.

      Do you -need- that level of protection? According to the CBC and the public health weenies… yes/no. They’re trying to be on both sides of the fence at once. As far as I’m concerned, I’m being lied to from all directions all day long. It is irritating.

      I agree that cloth masks are utterly useless theater at this point. 10% reduction in exhaled droplets for a cloth mask, at best. Paper surgical masks are a little better, but not much.

      2. Several times last year I had to haul my sorry self to the hospital and stay for a few days (I live in the US). If I was wearing a hospital-provided paper mask, the only way I’d get a new one was to ask for it. Otherwise, whether it was one of theirs or a cloth mask of mine, I could wear the same thing for the entire several-day stay, and so did the people who shared a room with me.

        If the nurses were not around, I pulled the mask down. There were times I didn’t have it up when one of them came in and the majority of them didn’t care if I was wearing it or not.

          Both WestJet and Air Canada are obsessed with that, as I have frequently been reminded. Woe betide me if my mask isn’t “properly” over my nose.

          One way I manage to avoid wearing one is to be visibly eating or drinking. I make sure to stretch things out as long as possible.

  19. No surprise here…In early 2000s we had designed a product for military and were testing it at NRC in Ottawa and it passed tests with flying colors.
    However, the Military representative pulled us aside to tell us we had no chance to win a contract because we were from Western Canada. He was trying to prevent us from wasting any more of our time and money. Gotta love Liberals.
