After the federal government announced the new travel measures on Jan. 29, CBC News was flooded with emails from Canadians yearning to know more — including how Ottawa came up with a $2,000 hotel quarantine bill.

So far, the government has offered only broad details about the new rules, but it promises to provide more information in the coming days.

Given that they’re probably making up the “rules” on the fly, it’s not surprising that nothing is available now.  Prediction: When the “rules” are published, they will likely make even less sense than they do now.

  12. If I chose to isolate at home here or my second private isolated US residence should be of little concern to the government of Canada. The 2 1/2 hour air trip will affect no one, any more than going to a local grocery store, which I do rarely and on off-hours.

    I can self-quarantine there easily, as I do now. These travel restrictions are draconian. I need to check out my place. After a year, stuff other than groceries, meds and booze becomes essential! Not to mention, how the government is destroyed my quality of life and mood and depriving me of natural Vitamin D.

    The 3-day test is unreliable and invalid in many cases. They need rapid testing at airports. As well, when I came home last year, I followed all the rules and quarantined alone for 14 days.

    We do not need hotels with medical staff and crappy food on return! Send those medical people to places where people are sick!

    I want to have a careful visit with my Can/American daughter too.

  13. What about people who left the country in December before these rules came into place? It’s one thing for those who knew they’d face this on their return and quite another for those who flew into the US to see family and may have made other plans, knowing what we now know.

    Find a number that is sufficiently PUNITIVE to the traveler … but not so expensive that it would keep rich people and corporations from traveling. But the number must be high-enough to ensure the Hotel Corporation are making OBSCENE PROFITS from taxpayers funds, which ensures their continued financial and public support for leftist politicians.

    It’s not a complicated calculation. But it is very … nuanced.

    Gov’t hotel rate: $100 x 3 = $300
    Shit food per diem 50 x 3 = 150
    Allocate Security 100 x 3 = 300
    Testing and health 500 flat = 500
    Subtotal = $1250
    Federal overhead assessment = 250
    Taxes (carbon gst tourism). = 150
    Shoe polish & socks recovery =100
    UN votes in Africa donation. = 50
    Math is hard = 198
    Total = $2000

    If they’d asked for co-signers publicly, I’m sure they’d have thousands. I’d be one of them.

    Though, my criticism would be that the government, by it’s decisions, is legally, morally and
    politically liable for policies that, prima facie, as per the letter, do not meet the Standard of
    Care owed to the people of Saskatchewan. Everyone who has lost a family member and/or
    their estate has justification to hold the provincial government liable for avoidable economic,
    health(physical/mental) degradation, including death; costs of the Lockdown and failure to
    treat those ill with Covid-19(Wuhan Virus) with, on a balance of probability, Standard of Care.

    The import of this letter requires it to be made public for it to have full effect. An honest and
    loyal news media would have done that already.

    I’d recommend D. Cooper et al, use this letter as part of a crowd funding project to fund
    a Charter Challenge against the provincial government. Rocco Galati has stated a minimum
    to get one to the Appellate level provincially would be about $250,000. His or John Carpays
    group have done extensive groundwork, so adding Saskatchewan is using that as a template.

    Given the cost in lives has been, at least in the hundreds and likely higher, and the lockdown
    cost to individuals and small-medium sized businesses, would be in the hundreds of millions
    of dollars. Crowd funding would be feasible and justify the arguments being publicized
    widely here, across Canada and internationally, as a side benefit.

    Add in those whose Charter Rights to Freedom of Assembly, Religion, make a living, access
    health care (e.i. Life/Security of the Person). This will be The Issue into the next election !

    Sunlight is the best disinfectant for political pathogens with which we are over-run.
    Our Sask. provincial politicians are being held hostage, by their fear of the bureaucracy,
    the Cult. Marxist Mobs and the turpitude of the MSM.
