Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

George Alexander Trebek has had his reward. I used up all my tears on the Biden/Harris coup. I have none left for some “celebrity” I didn’t know personally.
Get back to me when the rest of us can return to mourning our dead properly.

Unfortunate news but not unexpected.
Pancreatic Cancer is a mean bastard, it proves fatal to most everyone diagnosed.
Steve Jobs, Trebek, and yes, that hero of baby killers everywhere, RGB.
My uncle passed 30 years ago from it, and turned a boisterous gregarious braggard of a man to the grave in less than 6 months.
Its one of the cancers that our health system hasn’t made much progress on at all.
I have a friend who is currently coming to the end of his battle with it. 24 months is usually the longest survival time from an early diagnosis. Usually it is in hiding and the decline once discovered is very rapid.
Best quiz show ever. Many answers and questions, unlike other shows that just waste time. Alex was a great host. Rest in Peace.
Ironically, Turner Classic Movies has been advertising his book recently.
Farewell, and we thank you.
Now he can try to Reach For The Top.
RIP. He was the perfect host for Jeopardy. It won’t be the same without him.
Wonder what Sean Connery said to him first?
Heh, that was my first thought.
Connery last weekend. Trebek this weekend. If I were Norm Macdonald or Will Ferrell I’d be extra careful the next few weeks…
Loved Jeopardy and it’s host for years. Thank you, Canada, for that gift!
… Also, I think Ken Jennings should assume his responsibilities.
RIP Alex. If Ken gets the nod, it will be pretty easy for him, he won’t have to look at the answers, he’ll already know them.
Happy Sunday folks. I know Alex would have wished us the same. TY to him from me for enjoyable years of watching Jeopardy.
Peggy…that is an astute recommendation. Ken is the guy for sure.
I loved Alex, and I even admit that as a guy from North Bay, who always thought that Sudbury sucked, except for Alex. North Ontario folks may appreciate that reference.
In fact, in the 1970s, national lampoon featured a one pager comic titled “Like, North Bay, Ontario, Eh?” That comic dissed Sudbury.
Sudbury gets the last laugh, however. For what it’s worth in the withering north….
Excuse the digression….
Ha Ha -North Bay boy here as well – look for the maclean and maclean sudbury song. My best friend married a Sturgeon Virgin 🙂
Todd! My dear mother was from Sturgeon, so my dad married a Sturgeon Virgin too, I do believe. Ha….
I think that Jeopardy without Alex would be like Paul Harvey without Paul Harvey. Not the same. Alex was Jeopardy. He was why it endured so long.
He fought hard. Most don’t know it but he had dozens of surgeries over the years.
RIP Alex Trebek
Sad. RIP Alex. We’ll miss you.
Don’t know his full story or how he got to where he ended up. I do know he grew up in a small, maybe 1000 sq ft at best bungalow up the street from my aunt and uncle in Sudbury. 98% of his neighbours, including my uncle worked in the nickle mines. Amazing
I’m old enough to remember Art Fleming as Jeopardy host. That’s when I became a fan of this show which tested a broad range of knowledge. For me, Trebek exuded airs that appeared a bit of a put on. Fleming was classy, yet … I believe understood he was just a Game Show Host … nothing more. He felt more ‘genuine’ to me.
When I was 8 years old, the old Jeopardy! was on at 12:00 noon. I would run home from school as fast as I could. My mom would have my lunch set up on a TV table, and we would watch it together. With prizes from $10-$50 in the first round, and $20-100 in the second, it wasn’t as big a deal as it is today. I would get a lot of answers correct, and I said to my mom “I want to be on that show one day!”. Well, I finally made it; unfortunately, mom passed 20 years earlier, so she didn’t see it.
I was a contestant on Jeopardy! about a dozen years ago. I lost (knew the answers, was always late on the buzzer!). At the end of the show, Alex comes over, and they take a souvenir picture of him and me. Alex puts his arm around my shoulder, leans in, they take the photo, and then, as he stands up, I swear to god…
Alex Trebek goosed me.
Howie Meeker today as well .
Sean last week. Alex this week. Is there a chance for Hilary next week?
NOTE…
According to Sandie Rinaldo of CTV NEWS tonight…
Alex taped his last few “Jeopardy” shows a couple of weeks ago. They will be aired during Christmas week.
