Blacklocks (paywalled): Canada’s chief public health officer yesterday in an official report on the pandemic deleted all references to garbled advice on masks. Dr. Theresa Tam as late as April 3 claimed there was no evidence masks protected Canadians from Covid-19: “It is absolutely mind-boggling.”

    2. The masks are sure sign that Americans and Canadians and I suspect the EU weenies have all gone insane. I don’t know if it just part of the evolution of our rather stupid, but desirable western society, or if it’s part of a pandemic environment, but insane is the most appropriate adjective.

      Masks may help a wee bit if they are clean, snug fitting, made of the correct density of material and you also avoid being too close to other people.

      HOWEVER …

      Most people are wearing a mask, have them sitting very loosely over the mouth. The nose if often sticking out the top. I can’t criticize that because the masks do interfere with Oxygen intake and trap CO2 on the exhale.

      I think the mask is one of two things, or both ….

      1. a fashion accessory
      2. a sign of obedience to the state.

      Otherwise, they are nothing but a placebo.

    Interesting aside near 50% of Canadian Voters now don’t bother.

  6. They would have more credibility if they admitted the error. They could have used the excuse their understanding of the virus has changed. Instead, they try to hide it hoping most Kanuckistanian sheep won’t bother to call them out on it.
    Just like the corrupt Kanuckistan MSM who praise Dear Leader’s (mis)handling of the virus and disparage President Trump who actually took action when others called him a racist.

  7. Masks, well, stupid does not begin to describe the response. When a so called medical expert thinks a mask can stop a virus then the medical system needs a complete overhaul. When a virus that is 100nm and can only be seen with a electron microscope, is supposed to be stopped by the best mask, as touted by many stupid people, the N95, which can only block things 300nm and above will stop that virus. Many people here have contributed much information on the truth and facts surrounding masks. Bottom line, they won’t stop a virus. If one could it would suffocate you because you would not be able to breathe through it. When the hell are we all, millions of us, going to stand and tell them all, no more, we will kick you asses into the ground and we WILL NOT COMPLY.

    1. I refuse to wear a mask whenever I can. Funny, but I haven’t heard of any mass deaths as a result of that.

  9. Just returned from a three week trip to the States. Wear a mask if you want but the mandates there are beyond ridiculous. Salem, Massachusetts was the worst. Masks have to be worn even while outside. Didn’t matter if you were in an empty courtyard all by your lonesome – some officious busybody would come outside and tell you to get it on or else…. More obnoxious was the spying. While in a darkened museum presentation, some staffer would be observing the audience from cameras in the ceiling and would come on the loudspeaker to inform so and so sitting in row, seat, etc. to get that mask back over your nose or be evicted. Masks while entering the restaurant but not once you are seated. Perhaps COVID only exists about four feet. LOL What I observed was that most people keep a mask in their pocket or car and use it MULTIPLE times in multiple places. Everything that you are not supposed to do.

    Most laughable was flying there and back. In a packed plane in business class (it was too cheap to pass up) they are still serving cold meals, so for an hour all masks were off while everybody ate and drank. Had to surpass a guffaw when the flight attendants informed everyone to stay socially distance while de-planing? WTH.

    And our government really does care – SARC on. Received an email from the Government of Canada this morning asking to fill out a “voluntary” questionnaire on my quarantine status. Voluntary my a…… I ignored it and three hours later received a phone call from them. After a number of questions, I was asked if I was able to get groceries/supplies, etc and if not that it could be arranged. When I answered that if the government was paying for the groceries, I would happily take them up on the offer the questions ended.

  11. Dr Tam was talking economics and equity just yesterday, she said we need justice.

    She didn’t say exactly what she will do to Canada and Canadians, only that there will be changes.

  13. Much of the research that shows that masks work didn’t appear until the beginning of April. For instance the experiments with masks and coronavirus, flu virus, and rhinovirus that showed that masks were able to effectively stop infected people from breathing out virus particles in droplets or aerosols. Interestingly, they don’t work much better than a chain link fence for flu and rhinoviruses, but they do stop coronaviruses for unexplained reasons.

    Note that this was published April 3rd. The case for masks has been building as knowledge of the transmission of the virus has increased. The WHO made a comment that masks didn’t work in July and took it back the next day as the research community pushed back with all of the recent work that has been done.

    A couple of things about that study, it was done with common cold coronaviruses, so the talk of low viral load doesn’t apply, and talking increases aerosol production (vibration of the vocal cords), and they didn’t have the study participants talk while they scanned their breath for virus particles. Also at the time of the study, little was known about the spread of the virus by just breathing the air in an enclosed space around an infected person who might not even have symptoms.

    Nobody wants people to wear masks for no reason. The idea that this is some kind of conspiracy is nonsense, but it doesn’t help that people have politicized the pandemic to a ridiculous degree. Maybe once the election is over and Trump wins, things will get better.

  15. 800 people die every day in Canada. The current “resurgence” has about 20 people per day dying with Covid over the last week or two. During the height off the disease earlier in the year, the average fatality rate with Covid was 150 a day for about a month.

  16. I have to wear a mask or lose my job. My glasses are fogged up all day and I feel like I am suffocating. If the stupid mask ends up giving me bacterial pneumonia, which is the primary cause of death, that could be upsetting.

  19. The mandatory wearing of masks is an authoritarian edict based on politics not health. Mr. Tam knows damn well that masks won’t stop this virus or any virus. Its like trying to stop a sneeze with a chain link fence. Mr. Tam was right the first time back in May when xe said “masks don’t work”. Yeah, we know…. Hey, if Mr. Tam and the Turdhole Government really gave a shit about the health of Canadians they would’ve shut the borders to China and other “covid hotspots” instead of inviting the virus into the country. The “New Normal” is corporate fascism, house arrest, forced isolation and poverty. IMO, Fuk mandatory masks and the authoritarian pricks that dictate them. This country is full of scared little sheep. By all means lets continue to ignore Sweden.
