I personally recommend Dr. John Campbell on youtube. He’s been doing a very fine job of describing what is going on and what to do about it. This virus is sneaky and fast because you start shedding virus before you have symptoms and the incubation can vary from 2 to 14 days with some outliers being 27 days and it can survive on surfaces for up to nine days. However it’s “weak” compared to viruses like Ebola because the fatality rate is about 2% maybe less if there are many unreported mild cases. Anyone catch the pictures of Costcos around Canada? Canada is panicking.

Most corona cases are a case of the sniffles that go unreported. Add that to the total # of cases and the death rate drops to a fraction of what is being reported.

I medium agree. It won’t be a catastrophe if coronavirus becomes widespread (which it seems like it will) but it’ll suck. Measurable hit to the economy, significant stress on the healthcare system, not fun. Which is why the current measures being taken are both well justified and not worth panicking about.
Costco is cleaned out. No meat, no toilet paper, no water, tons of empty shelves. I heard about Richmond Costco but this was Victoria. Other stores over the weekend had some obvious preppers but nothing like Costco.
So, let’s say that it keeps going at the current rate. In twelve weeks, almost everyone on the planet has been exposed. The majority have been infected. Many have recovered from their first infection.
Roughly 10-15% of everyone over the age of 75 have been killed by their first infection.
Persons who are of retirement age fare better, but they get hit pretty hard, too.
Then, it makes it’s rounds again. People who haven’t quite fully recovered get wiped out.
Health systems are completely overwhelmed and hospitals are no longer safe for other health issues.
If things don’t slow down, this is going to kill tens of millions, maybe hundreds of millions.
