  1. Go UDI ALBERTA. Albertans need to start calling Alberta a Nation. If a band of 30 Indians is a Nation then 4M Albertans are a Nation. Adopt the tactics of the Natives and shut down the rail lines east and west into Alberta, shut down all truck freight east and west into Alberta. You won’t get this straightened out sitting on your ass. All Alberta’s and Sask. Independence/Separatists Groups need to Unite if not in name then in cooperation and work together. Put aside your ego’s and petty dreams of Grandeur and work for the common good of Freedom Liberty and Independence of our long abused Citizens. Go UDI ALBERTA.

  2. It was once explained to me in slow-haughty franco-tones; “You don’t understand, we all pay taxes. Quebec doesn’t take Alberta money. We just get our share of federal taxes back. You Albertans don’t understand how taxes work.”

    2. They have kind of a point. See once the money is taken, does it really matter so much what province it’s spent in? Let’s say the money comes back to Alberta as equalization or some other more federalized pogey: great now we have more subsidized public art or gazebos or whatever in Alberta. Great it’s still money out of my pocket into dumb crap, except the big words are in English.

      The problem is the size of equalization not where it’s spent. Honestly, other programs like the economic development boards are probably worse than equalization on a per dollar basis (granted they are smaller).

  3. It is within Kenney’s power to end it all but he is just an agent of Ottawa. He has to be pushed overwhelmingly by civil disobedience if necessary to enact and use all the Provincial Jurisdiction in the BNA to defend Albertans Rights. If he won’t he should be run out of Office. Adopt every provision in the Firewall Letter and also completely withdraw from the Federal Provincial Fiscal Arrangements Act which funds Equalization. Get It Done Kenney Or Get The Hell Out.

    1. Will the Wexit Party do the job of pushing Kenney and Moe towards solid action? Having Manning investigate ‘options’ is a waste of time IMHO. The threat of Wexit running in Provincial elections in AB, SASK, Man and BC has to be on the table.

      I just sent a letter off to the BC Liberal Party telling them I would only vote for a Party or candidate who was for UDI. I had already sent that message off to the CPC. Wexit supporters should also move into municipal government as well.
      Easterners are already trying to stymie Wexit efforts by crafting the terms of separation as a futile exercise. At some point Westerners will have to stand up and be counted, particularly our politicians.

        2. Steak – going federal from the start means you intend to stay within the federal union. Look at the Bloc, more goodies within the federal system just so they won’t take their ball and go home. I’ve used that analogy before, it’s contingent on their belief that there will be no game (economy) without them. We, in the west, will switch from football to rugby or baseball or soccer or badminton or volleyball or tag or hopscotch or Red Rover, Red Rover or 4-square or … (append 20 to 30 page list)

          If one is serious about leaving, stay regional.

    Since 07, about $170b into Quebec, from little Alberta. As QC’s economy improves and AB faded, the shell game continued.
    Then that knob Blanchet tells Albertans to stop whining because it won’t work, even though whining always worked for Quebec.
    Especially with the Laurentian elite gated in Montreal and Ottawa, fully bilingual of course, sitting on the throne of Parliament.
    If only our left coast could figure out a way to get a proper free enterprise party elected there, then we could join the party.
    Meanwhile, AB and SK will continue to assert provincial power at every opportunity, maybe even take BC’s lead and usurp it too.
    Oh but UDI is a pipe dream, pardon the pun. Money and crude or nothing. You decide. Quebec came close, so can AB.

  5. It is obvious the government of Canada,in consort with the Elite of Quebec, set this country up long ago to benefit Quebec, it’s billionaire elite, and the Liberal/Conservative parties of Canada. Any benefits to the rest of us is only coincidental and sufficient to keep the peasants happy.
    It seems people are finally figuring it out. Western Canada should be an autonomous region, not a separate country as our current politicians would f*** that up hugely and we’d end up a serf to the USA.
    And all the f***ing socialists who came here from Ontario can go back there and screw up their own back yards instead of ours. That should reduce our carbon footy-print by about half.

  7. Quebec is $30 billion ahead of Alberta. That’s $4,000 per Quebecois or $7,500 per Albertan. We couldn’t imagine how much better off Alberta would be if $30,000 more per family of 4 remained in Alberta. Long live a free Alberta.

  9. Couple points. First, the problem with the equalization program isn’t what Alberta (or any other province) pays in, the problem is with what Quebec takes out. It’s often framed as an Alberta grievance but, in reality, every province should be furious that Quebec gets such a mammoth amount of money from the feds and they all get so little. I’ve never understood why AB/SK don’t sell changes that would benefit everyone but Quebec.
    Second, this scam only works because the urban managerial class in Ontario is, for some reason, paralyzed by fear of Quebec separation. It’s a lesson for Alberta and Saskatchewan. You need the threat of separation on the table to get results. Take it off, and you have zero leverage.

    2. While I do not disagree with some of your points, the problem IS that a welfare system exists for other provinces and political parties. Cannot provinces mine their own resources and political parties solicit donations from their own members?

      Canadians have this foggy notion of where money comes from and are fine with it being diverted here, there and everywhere.

      It’s time for some accountability.

      Alberta needs to withdraw from national schemes and make eastern Canada bleed or this entire country will go completely under.

      1. Yup. And that’s where PEI becomes the perfect example. Either it is a place you can live or it is not. If it doesn’t support 154,000 potatoes then some of those spuds should FO elsewhere. No different than “artists” who want a guaranteed income to be paid for by everybody who works for a living so they can sit around and peel potatoes and call them sculptures.

          2. PEI is probably the most overgoverned piece of real estate on the face of the earth. The population of PEI is about 153,000. It has 4 MP’s or about 1 for every 38,250 people. Alberta, by way of comparison has 34 MP’s for a population of 4,300,000 people or about 126,470 people. If Alberta had the same ratio of MP’s to population as PEI, it would have 112 MP’s…not 34. And it’s not like PEI could argue that their MP’s have a lot of territory to cover given that the area of PEI is 5,660 square km or 654 square km per MP….Alberta is 661,848 square km or 19,466 square km per MP or about 30 times the geographical area as MP’s in PEI..

            PEI has 27 MLA’s or about 1 for every 5,665 people. Alberta has 87 MLA’s or about 1 for every 49,425 people.

            The capital of PEI, Charlottetown has a population of 36,094 and it has a Mayor and 10 councillors or about 1 for every 3,281 people. Calgary for comparison has a Mayor and 14 councillors for a population of 1,239,000 people or about 1 for every 82,600 people.

            The GDP per capita for PEI is $44,180 while in Alberta it is $78,213. And PEI receives $419,000,000 in equalization, or about $2,738 per person.

            Government appears to be the biggest “industry” on PEI and likely every person in the “province” is connected in some way to a government paycheque.

  12. I remember many years ago transfer payments to the provinces. Quebec got six billion. Leaving one billion for the other provinces. Ontario got a few million out of that. A letter was published to a newspaper out west, purported by a Quebecer. They gloated and said the fools had fallen for Quebec’s cries of separatism. No justice at all, Quebec got things down to a fine art. No killing the goose that lays the golden egg.

    1. Canada no longer needs Quebec. Let every dime federally be removed from the province. That would be no more pensions, no more transfers, to hell with them. Go to Cuba and enjoy the warmth that you will not get here. I do not care, they are leeches on Canadian society and why we have allowed it is disgusting and has to be addressed. The end game should be an independent West leaving Ontario to have to live with the spoiled Quebecois who, like an enormous Indian Reserve (essentially an ethnic ghetto marinating in resentment), hold the ROC in contempt while they, shake it down for everything they can get with idle threats of separation.

    Rather than rant about terrorizing BC (most of whom would likely want to go with the Prairie provinces. worst case, geographically isolate the brain-dead green pockets to be Eastern Canada’s problem), make it about Quebec. The corrupt Eastern elites that control the Spawn / Butts regime will have to go on the defensive as their world will crash and burn without Quebec. If the West is seen as more anti-Quebec than pro Western, the Eastern power establishment, rather than mocking the “western losers” for wanting their own nation, will encourage our departure. They need Quebec more than we need Canada. The battle ground isn’t about East versus West, it’s about political Eastern establishment (pro Quebec) vs the economic Eastern establishment who know their cost of Western separation. The West has to reinforce the former by attacking Quebec directly.

  18. Think twice about separating, when Alberta goes you get to keep UnMe. As much as I appreciate Western separatist sentiments it strikes me that building a wall on Quebec border (after generously donating Ottawa and Moronto to them) would be a good alternative for all concerned.

    1. Give the French Canadians a reserve in Labrador, hundreds of kilometers from any pipeline, and build the wall around that. They want heat in winter, let them chop down trees.

      The English built everything in Montreal worth keeping. They should be allowed to keep Montreal—and, when they’re done clearing the slums east of the Main, take a wrecking ball to Montreal’s pharaonic monuments to French Canadian vanity, from the Oratoire to the Olympic stadium.

  19. Someone needs to ask Justine ala the Feds why isn’t Church Hill Falls included in Quebec’s GNP?? Yes that’s right the fortune they earn from selling hydro isn’t included in their government transfer formula. Include the money from Church Hill Falls and Quebec wouldn’t get a dime of Alberta’s money.

  21. Would Trump pay a trillion bucks for Alberta to join USA? One time payment of $250,000 to each Albertan of voting age who has lived in Alberta continuously for over a year if we vote to exit confederation. That should leave a decent nest egg to set things up and I think that would easily bring a majority of voters onside with separation. Plus the added benefit of having the USA as a protector and using their trade power against the rest of Canada to smooth any separation anxiety Quebec et al may have waving goodbye to their golden goose.
