    The good people of California, and the United States, owe a debt of gratitude to Kenny Heslep for exposing (in every sense) his faithless wife. At bare minimum, he should be excused from buying his own alcohol ever again.

            Confucius’s advice to young men was to devote themselves to absolutely putting all forms of vice, impoliteness, temptation and improper living resolutely out of their behaviour patterns, so once they got old, through long habit such things would simply not even be thought-of, much less considered.             I’ve wasted many precious minutes pondering what I, as leader of the world, would do in the event of one of my subordinates doing something lecherous, demi-fraudulent or publicly obscene. the conundrum is that on the one hand, he’s a public leader; it should be up to him to set an example for the great unwashed. But on the other hand, how can one censure somebody for something that everybody else is doing all the time, and are now clamouring for his head only because HE was caught doing it? Several examples spring to mind; Little Potato and his “remembering it differently”, or Anthony Weiner (boy, THAT’S an appropriate name!) sexting an under-age girl across State lines.

            Well, after long cogitation the best I could come-up with was a simplified flow-chart, boiling-down to “Was what he did against the law?”

            – if yes, let him be passed-off to the Prosecutor; and my sole further concern will be to ensure that he receives no favouritism under the Law, no, none at all. Anthony Weiner was facing a very long sentence; I would ensure that he served every last minute of it.

            – if no, then however heinous his conduct, he is to be referred-back to his constituents; do they still want him as their representative? Little Potato again (sigh…) who despite his arrogance and faulty memory, got himself re-elected in his Riding.

            – Maybe it’s best that I’m NOT the ruler of the world – not even close…

        2. Personally, she can have sex and look for love however she wants, providing her partners don’e “percieve things differently” in the words of a famous Canadian philosopher.

          What I can’t stand is the hypocrisy; she would have demanded resignation ofan opponent in like circumstances – and all her bleeding heart lecturing of us how to live.

  3. My power is still out … by pg&e’s “choice” … for “safety”. And a new “wind event” is due Tue. thru Thur. So I may be without power for nearly ONE WEEK!

    CA is no longer a 1st world country. We are a dysfunctional shithole.

    To make matters worse, the Verizon cell tower in my neighborhood is so jammed with everyone using their phones at once, that I can barely get anything to open. No mail, no messages, no internet. Nada.

        1. I left Communist Quebec in the ’70s. It wasn’t easy. I haven’t written too much about it here at SDA because doing so means reliving it. It was not without much pain. Since I left, I haven’t looked back. In retrospect, it was for the best. In life one tends to only remember the good stuff. Time has a way of erasing pain.

            I still like the Habs and the Washington Nationals Baseball Team, which as you know, I’m sure, the latter used to belong to Montreal and were formerly known as the Expos. Used to go to their games too.

            How about that, they are in the World Series! The Nationals lost 7-1 and in games, are behind 3 to 2. Haven’t been watching it much but will definitely tune in for the last game. My guess is that the Houston Astros will probably win the whole thing. Are you rooting for them? The World Series is great – represents the last of summer for us up here in cold Canada.

            BTW – Glad to learn that you have power OB. Was wondering about that.

            Do not give up hope for a Nationals win. My Minnesota Twins won two World Series, even though they lost every road game, TWICE! 1987 and 1991. Maybe the Nats will do the unlikely, and win every away game, even though they lost at home. That would be one for the record books.

          4. Out here in the buck brush the power is still on….for now. It seems to me that power outage is all around us with increasing frequency. It’s only a matter of time before we all fade to black – perhaps with some permanency.

            My personal preparedness is fairly high but I know what living without power entails. One is the loss of refrigeration. I have 3 freezers and 2 refrigerators. One is dedicated to trapping stuff- dead and stinky’s – not for food. The other 2 have edibles.

            I have generators and gas on hand but if you had to make the winter without power you had better have a plan. I have heat (wood stove) and water plus propane lights but again they only last until the propane runs out. I have a good supply of propane.

            Big game season opens here this week. I am going to can my meat this fall rather than cut/wrap/freeze. I like canned meat. Grew up on it.

            I really enjoyed an extra long game a few years ago when the game went into overtime and there were so many innings to try for the win that the OT lasted into the wee hours of the morning. When all was said and done it was like watching 2 full games! Can’t remember which teams did this. Was one team the Kansas City Royals?

Of course, the latter’s power lines only run over deserts mostly. My electric bills have increased drastically since LADWP has “gone green” or in Scottish “gang green”, but at least I still have power 24/7, so far.

      A few years ago we lost power in an ice storm for 7 days. Night time temperatures below -10 deg C. For 3 days we couldn’t even leave our property due to fallen trees. But with a few chain saws and portable generators we even hosted Christmas, complete with a stuffed turkey. Nothing like the sound of a Honda generator purring in the background. Kenji, you might want to invest in one. I don’t think your government is going away any time soon.

  9. CO2 production. The USA and China produce more CO2 than any other nations. US frequent fliers produce more CO2 than the annual CO2 of Canada and the UK combined. PM Blackface needs to shut down the Air Line Industry and Bombardier rather than focus on Alberta. He also needs to quit flying and use the Bus and the train. Take away his airplanes. He probably produces 25% of Canada’s CO2, at least as much as Fort Mac.

    I was in Seattle back in the day for a Blue Jays/Mariners 4 game series. Rocket Roger vs Randy Johnson. A pair of fire ballers. (Rocket won).

    Mose Allison was playing Parnell’s a local jazz spot. Of course I went and had a seat close to the piano. Mose did the above tune.

    Baseball and jazz…doesn’t get much better on a vacation. Mose is no longer with us but give the tune a listen. Have a snicker and forgitabout power outages and politics.

      2. You an actual trapper? I taught my 4 kids 2 boys 2 girls to hunt and fish and bushcraft etc. The girls love fishing. Also taught some of my grandkids the same. I am going hunting this fall with my eldest son and his 4 daughters, my granddaughters expecting fun. First grandson I took hunting, he saw a rub and wanted to know what it was, explained that. So he pulled his hunting knife and started hacking at it, I says what are you doing, he says I want to leave my mark too. Fell over laughing, he was 12. My son is the only guy I know that never missed hunting and always took his daughters and still got his meat. The oldest grand daughter is a crack shot at 14 and only her Dad can outshoot her now, they cook bread in dutch ovens and such. She is 14 and can skin, gut, and cut up a deer better than many city hunters. Sure looking forward to some time in the bush with those gangsters. PawPaw still has a few tricks to show them. Very proud of them. Their other Grandpa is a licensed trapper. Going up there this Friday. I roll my own, and my son wants to learn about that.

  25. Made the trek to Calgary this weekend and went to see one of my faves Tom Russell. Ian says “Russell writes songs about whores and knives”, or something along those lines. He co-wrote Navajo Rug with Tyson.

    Got a chance to talk to him briefly after the gig about another of his songs, ‘Tonite we Ride’, which he didn’t do…damn.

          I’ve had the good fortune to see Russell quite a few times and talk to him a number of times.

          He was living in NYC and driving cab thinking about his future in music when by serendipitous happenstance he picked up Jerry Garcia. They talked as he drove and Russell his sang Gallo Del Cielo for him. After hearing it Garcia insisted he reinvigorate his music career.

          He persevered and became successful. Has a big following in Europe and lives between Texas and Switzerland.

          2. That is so very true ABT. It is genetic I think. I mean here I am past 70 and in Love again. I was married for a few months short of 40 years, and although a wild rake in my youth, I never cheated once and raised 4 children, at the end I spend the last 5 years 24/7/365 at her side day and night until she passed away with cancer. Almost killed me too, I was worn down to 146 lbs the Health Nurse intervened or maybe I would have kept going until the end. I had given my word. And my word is my bond. When it was over, I was a broken man. My daughter said Dad please come to church with me. And I told her I can’t honey, God has forgotten me. And she cried for me. Shortly there after this wonderful Lady, my Sweetheart found me. And this imperfect man is in love again. With an imperfect woman. Is it worth it, Love is always worth the effort. Will we live happily ever after, how the heck do I know. Love is a tough business, but it is the best business in the world. And we can’t always choose who our heart will love. If all we have is each other in the end that is more than enough. Material possessions do not satisfy like companionship and love and family bonds. And good friends and good humor. Without these things we may as well be animals.

  34. The media continues to cover up muslim crimes in Canada. A hate crime occurred in Newmarket Ont. today. Police report that a gay man was assaulted. Almost all the media didn’t mention the attacker’s name. One did however. It was obviously a muslim name.
