  5. I’d like to be the proverbial “fly on the wall” in Trump’s office right now, while he has to deal with Iran, and later in the day meet with Trudeau.
    Is Iran the number one sponsor of terrorism in the world or does the title still belong to Saudi Arabia? At different times,Trump has claimed each is the numero uno.

    1. Trump understands above all else amd more than anyone else that ALL politics is rhetoric, polemics and bullshit. He uses words as weapons. He feints, ducks, says one thing one minute, a d another the next, to keep his opponents feeling insecure and uncomfortable. He uses his enemy’s tactics against them, and it is driving them nuts. Lookit, Iran is finished as a regional power. They are rapidly aging, they are bankrupt and sclerotic, their government is weak and desparately clinging to power against an increasingly restive citizenry. He has maneuvered Iran into a position where they are starting to do stupid stuff, and they sill get fecked up as a result. I suspect Saudi, Israeli, and Turkish assets are already in place. He has played blitz chess when his opponents think they are playing tournament-timed checkers.

All of their attacks on oil tankers and now U.S. military equipment is being put into a ledger where there’s already a target the U.S. wants to take out but they just need enough justification. Like Han Solo says “Keep it up fuzzball”. At some point the fur will fly at 4am and at 6am when the smoke clears the U.S. will just say Iran had it coming and something very dear to their ambitions will have gone poof.

    1. I don’t expect President Trump will be loading up pallets full of cash in the form of Danegeld to buy quietude like the Obama-Nation™. For starters nobody is dead, so a targeted asset will likely get slated to ‘send a message’. ie proportional response, tit for tat, to let the Iranian regime know that their pugnacious ways come with a cost. In short, open international waters are not up for negotiation.

  16. Trump’s tweet is perfect. There is no threat, veiled or otherwise. War? Trump said nothing about war. Punishment? He didn’t even say he would punish them. Just that they made a very bad mistake. Leave it up to the imagination of the rulers in Iran as to what might happen next. Economic sanctions, surgical strike, you name it, anything and everything could be on the table. They’re going to be in a frenzy trying to figure out their next move.

    1. No, because China Japan India would then bid up non Gulf oil supplies, perhaps leading to global recession. Remember the US has 600+ million barrels sitting in salt domes in Louisiana, enough to make up for months of Saudi output. Of course, if they close the Strait, all the supposedly peace loving Euro trash will be braying for war, to be fought by the US to restore their oil supplies.

Give em what they want. Leave Kanaduh and run pipelines to Valdez, Alaska. It’s shorter by a week to Asia from anywhere else on the west coast of North America. They could use our oil and gas.

        Ottawa is 3500 km east and staring at their navels, while picking out lint taxing you to death. They could not find Alberta on a map, or Valdez, Alaska either. Safe to say most Albertans in Edmonton couldn’t either, with pipelines connecting to Fort McMurray Rachel and her fire bugs can. Vancouver….well it’s too rainy, or sumpthin. The ones in Tronna couldn’t find North Bay, let alone Thunder Bay. A “horizon” west of the Ont/MB border would skeer them to death, for lack of glass and steel buildings.
        Westerners need to grow up, cut the umbilical chord and get on with their futures, not central or eastern Kanaduh’s version.

    A real bonus would be if the US response would trigger an upset in Iran and send the Mullahs where Allah went.

  21. I am not entirely convinced these events are exactly what they are said to be, one needs to consider who benefits and who loses from any actions that lead to hostilities against Iran. The only reason I am somewhat willing to believe the US military version is that Iran’s leadership openly profess belief in apocalyptic end time theologies that might overcome any reasonable oversight of their conduct, since on the face of it, attacking ships while hosting an important visitor to their country (Abe of Japan) makes no sense.

    If I have doubts about such entities as the US military or the State Department, that is not automatically distrust in Donald Trump, he has to take these reports on faith himself, and in past cases he has chosen not to have faith in intelligence presented to him.

    We of course may never know what’s really going on. If it leads to a heating up of the situation, then that will create new circumstances and people will forget all about the original situation. But be honest, what can you really trust with so many anti-Trump people embedded in many areas of the government, even in the military which I don’t imagine is as anti-Trump as the State Department but is it 100% supportive? I doubt it.

    The timing makes one wonder what is really going on over there. There must be many Democrats who would like nothing more than a messy war in the Middle East. It would reduce the Donald’s chances of re-election and they could inherit it, thus removing the need to start it themselves as they like to do.

  22. Who’s pulling Iran’s string on all this? Who’s biatch are they? Don’t think China isn’t behind this? Given that The Deep State are all anti trump, they wouldn’t try to trip him up on a useless “war”, would they?
    Targeting a US asset is something different than a third rank one as has been done lately, to try and draw the US (Trump) into rash action, is the aim here. That drone can be replaced, no US lives lost, so let Iran push the limits on starting some action in the Gulf, with anyone. I don’t think they have a death wish. At least not for themselves.
    Ramping up the hardware is good optics, as is that last minute stand down. They’re “testing”. Just keep the newbies away from the firing buttons, thank you.
