  1. Gates is a sane man. Interesting to see him get so animated/emotional about the issue. The number of twits he must encounter almost daily who think they are smart but are in reality impressionable, indoctrinated fools has to infuriate him.

    1. Except for one mighty contradiction. Gates has often been quoted as one of the Greentards. His foundation routinely donates to greentard causes.
Either he is a duplicitous douche, just another virtue signaller posing his way to lefty heaven, or he has now seen the rampant hypocrisy of the envirolooney left.
Methinks he keeps donating to greenie causes.

      1. Yes. There are a number of videos on YouTube of Bill Gates speaking at American Universities and pushing radical
population reduction as the solution to fighting climate change. He needs to lead by example and leave this planet.

  2. There is no [energy] substitute for the way our economy runs today. Will his comments even make a dent into the MSM? At least people like Gates are speaking out.

  3. What impresses me about a speech like that is the simple clarity of thought and presentation.

That is all too rare these days, sadly.

    1. Gates sounded so fresh and delightful in his little diatribe because we are so accustomed to hearing people who are trying to kiss all asses at the same time They come across as shallow and stupid … because they are.

The energy problems will go away the same time as the global warming myth finally goes away.

  4. Beat me to it. ” There is no substitute for how the industrial economy runs today.” In precis. Bullseye. Explicit epiphany.
I see Steve beat me to this too, but it bears repeating, again and again until our science and math addled masses get it.
But there is no substitute to the BS taxation excuses statists can blow by hapless serfs, blinding by scientism and ignorant media.
This is their final stand, their Waterloo; they cannot lose or it all goes away, along with their phony baloney jobs, money and power.
These watermelons tax something that isn’t a commodity, then expect people to use less of it, despite total dependence on it.
Gates has outed these duplicitous traitors to free enterprise and liberty. It’s all about power Bill, but I think you know that too.

    1. These watermelons tax something that isn’t a commodity, then expect people to use less of it, despite total dependence on it.

As agriculture affects the “environment” more than any other human activity. We should tax food to reduce agriculture.

  5. As a Rotarian I am well aware of what Bill & Melinda Gates have done globally to help 3rd world countries. Our joint work on polio has likely saved many millions of lives. The key thing about Gates is that he brings a bottom line to his work that demands accountability and results. Miss one polio carrier and the disease can re-establish itself quickly. Rather than miss that carrier teams test sewage as a backup. Simple and effective.

  6. Just so you know whose retirement you are funding! Collected 3.9 billion from Canadians -3.2 billion in expenses! But they have averaged 11% annually over the last 10 years. Really? Meanwhilhttps://www.msn.com/en-ca/money/topstories/why-mark-machin-—-the-man-responsible-for-our-national-pension-plan-—-thinks-its-okay-to-spend-dollar32-billion-on-expenses/ar-AABCFnr?ocid=spartandhpe the percentage of your salary you must contribute is continuing to increase.

  7. The cognitive dissonance of the FAKE eco-hysterics who have drunk the koolaid is shocking. And WHEN they’ve crashed our Western lifestyles by cutting-off reliable energy and Product manufacturing … they’ll sit back and say GOOD! … now all those little people can “live with less”.

Look at all the $green$ we made by talking UP green technology … and then SHORTING it. Ah ha ha ha ha ha !

See: Tesla stock price chart. All the investors who failed to see there was a LIMITED market for an electric car that wouldn’t take you very far without plugging it in and waiting a long time to go again … are getting a haircut. No, they’re getting an economic guillotine.

    1. Kenji…couldn’t happen to a more deserving bunch imo.

What worries me here in the Cdn West is that PM dipshit may decide that Climate Change is a defacto “CRISIS”. The last time we had a “crisis” was in 1970 with the FLQ issue (Quebec Seperatists who shot and killed a guy). Pierre Trudeau enacted the War Measures Act – Martial Law…!! ffs.

One can assume PM dipshit is fully aware of his ability to do so should he desire – majority in parliament and all. This is just the kind of thing that I believe this 2 bit trust fund punk – despot who’s in the Polling shitter might pull to secure his Power. (I recall Daddys famous words: “Just watch me”)

  8. I’m old enough to remember when the excuse given for stopping economic development in the western world was that the world would run out of oil, for which everybody still accepted there were no practical substitutes.

I’m rather looking forward to the day the oil does run out—in Saudi Arabia, in no more than 15 years.

      1. You really think the Americans will tolerate an Islamic state to their north? We’ll be annexed long before that, and the USMC will be greeted as liberators.

    1. … sure to net more than Weed taxes.

Both Dopers AND alcoholics like to rub one out. TWICE the marketplace.

  9. I think Gates (the college dropout) has figured out the “rent seeking whores” of the wall street crowd. It’s filled with MBAs who have all been well indoctrinated with progressive dogma and the amoral tenets of rent seeking and when you combine that with the political class pimping hysteria and feeding the beast from unborn yet looted taxpayers you have the insanity of the “green energy pursuit” conveniently restricted to two typically unreliable sources incapable of supporting industrial societies.

    1. re “Filled with MBAs”. Here is a summary of various degrees:

      BS= bull shit
      MS = more shit
PHD = piled higher and deeper
      MBA = much bigger ass…

      🙂

      1. The way I heard it, MBA stood for “master of b****r all”, which, considering most of those with that degree that I’ve met, is an accurate description.

  10. As the madness rises, more sane men will be frightened enough to speak out against it.
The actions of Gang Green threaten to destroy our civilization.
Our progressive comrades seek to destroy everything that makes us civil with each other.

Emotional reactions are useless when real production is called for.

Praising the power generated by using Unicorns is wonderful, until you remember/learn there are no Unicorns.
Being a self praising member of The Cult of Calamitous Climate is to self identify as too stunned to be in any position of power.

Canada is introducing a Charter of Digital Information or something, apparently it is all about TRUST.
So we are expected to obey and trust the destroyers of Rule of Law?
    Trust blatant liars and thieves.??

I have only one digit to inform Professional Parasites with, I believe the French accompany this signal with the phrase;”Rotate”.

The Cult is definitely on its last legs when the likes of Bill Gates finally lose their political correctness.

I need a new country,do we really have to wait for October?

  11. Wow! A genius who isn’t hopelessly stupid when viewing the real world. Someone who promotes solar energy in California is stupid. Someone who promotes it in Alberta is a stupid retarded moron. The big lie in CO2 is that anything humans can do anything without slashing our standard of living which has fossil fuel as its driver. A bigger lie is that humans affect climate on any level. Belief that we can fix warming is actually stupider than belief we caused it.

    1. PG&E ..and their supposed REGULATOR … the PUC … have both embraced solar, and wind. And I have to PAY for their virtue-signaling stupidity! Fkcuing aggravating

    2. Someone who promotes [solar energy] in Alberta is not a stupid retarded moron. The person who buys it is. Such as the government…

  12. Bill Gates should also admit that governments don’t give a rat’s behind that there’s no substitute for how our economy runs today.

Today’s governments – and the British Columbia government, in particular – have found a cash cow in the Climate Change concept and THEY WILL DO EVERYTHING IN THEIR POWER to keep it that way.

For example, British Columbia is charging a carbon tax of 128% of the cost of household natural gas. Interestingly, they just announced MORE “incentives” for people who buy electric vehicles. They are taking money from the less wealthy and giving it to the more wealthy AND THEY DON’T CARE. It keeps them in power and keeps their unions happy.

    It’s the money, honey.

And it’s always been that way.

    1. Let’s suppose that a carbon tax actually causes people to drastically reduce hydrocarbon consumption. How will the government replace the revenue from: carbon tax, federal and provincial taxes on hydrocarbons (e.g. gasoline and diesel), royalties and other oil and gas taxes, and sales tax?

      They’ll tax electricity.

  13. I don’t think Bill Gates is anywhere close to “getting it” with the MMGW hoax. From just today….

Bill Gates: This is what we need to do to tackle climate change.

    https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2019/05/a-critical-step-to-reduce-climate-change

“Wind and solar power generation is expanding around the globe at record rates, allowing more people to get their electricity from clean, renewable sources than ever before. This is great news.
So, what will it take to reach the goal of zero carbon electricity generation?”
“We must solve two challenges. The first challenge will come as no surprise. We need to do more to harness the power of the sun and wind. And thanks to falling prices for solar panels, wind turbines, and other technologies, deploying renewable energy systems is more affordable than ever before.”

  14. Jason Kenney should start a poll in Alberta. All those who believe in AGW would get special green license plates for their car that make it a crime to put fossil fuel in it. Their natural gas and electricity meters at their houses would be locked out with a special green lock. If they have children they would be taxed for each child. Etc etc. Would be interesting to see how many people actually believe CO2 is harming the planet enough to quit expelling it and how many are just virtue signaling sheep. I think we all know the answer.

  15. Years ago in Seattle, I went to a program on Quick Basic. Bill Gates was to give a short talk at the lunch. Once he started on programming and discussing programming with this audience of programmers, he was in heaven. His “people” kept trying to get him to cut it short but he sat there among us for almost 4 hours just talking programming. He really loved coding. I still use many of the tips he passed on.

  16. as much flak as Bill got from Microslop’s predatory practices, well, that’s business eh?
otoh, HIS company was the foundation of MY 10 year career in desktop systems, I started by putting them together from parts (actually easy to do, the standardization thing), contract programming, and teaching at private schools.

and then the Bill Gates Foundation that has done everything from fill up shelves in the local library to combating malaria.

    I like the guy.

and another thing, Howard Hughes’ innovations like flush rivets saved Billions in fuel costs, faster and further trips, and the Howard Hughes Medical Foundation *continues* to innovate and save lives.

  17. Hey Bill, do you have anything in your desk like a spare billion, that you won’t be needing to end of month?

  18. ” There is no substitute for how the industrial economy runs today.”

Yet the madness continues. Almost like a death spiral.

  19. Bill Gates may have bought a modified version of Unix to work on Intel processors, but that did not make him
stupid. He was a genuine electronics geek. He understood that the concept of renewable energy was pure
BS! The closest thing to the mythical perpetual motion machine (energy without cost) is hydroelectric. Solar
thermal, solar PV, wave energy, wind farms, Hydrogen fuel cells, and other pie in the sky schemes are pure
pipe dreams and do not even try to engage me on the concept of pumped hydraulic energy which is the
most expensive form of electricity to cross the minds of scientifically illiterate liberals!

Any moron who falls for this bullcrap needs to spend some time in Cuba or Venezuela. One million percent
inflation rates, people digging in garbage dumps for scraps of food, people who have eaten their pets, all of
the animals in the zoos and every critter in the woods will tell you of the folly of socialism.

    1. AAAAAABsolutely.
*anybody* who has ever been caught in the surf, done a drift dive or etc knows how much PUSH water has, and how steady the momentum is in general.
as compared to ye olde winde.
so which source of energy of the 2 gets the lion’s share of publicity right now? and why?
