We will soon start the multi thousands of years of falling temps to an eventual ice age. I will also suggest that a few more years of natural warming may occur but man will have no control over any of it. Mankind will have to do what mankind has always done, adapt.
The author of that article based his argument on the practicalities of better long term planning on the “inevitable” shutting down of fossil fuels rather than defending using them until they are economically exhausted. And they wonder why the industry are such losers. They would be better off if they just shut up and let Patrick Moore do all the talking. Corporate spin doctors or too many executives who should have stuck to geology, geophysics, engineering or accounting sound like apologists because they buy into their enemies narratives, thinking they are sounding “moderate”.
Anyone who wants an early end to fossil fuels should spend a year using an axe and hand saws to source all their fuel from trees as that is the world that they are advocating for without more hydro and a lot more nukes.

I’ve seen vast wind factories (don’t call them “farms”) that are currently producing 0.04% of our energy needs … and they’ve DESTROYED the environment. Life is full of choices, and I would much rather “endure” a 1deg.F/century rise in temperature … than see hundreds of thousands of acres despoiled by these horribly inefficient energy contraptions. And I haven’t even mentioned the horrible mining and leach fields necessary to extract rare earth materials.
If you haven’t SERIOUSLY considered and calculated the frightening number of “alternative” energy generators are necessary to replace fossil fuels, then you’re a fossilized FOOL.
Engineering decisions are easy for the folks who are physics/math illiterate. XX-Studies grads able to comprehend that heavy equipment and transport can’t be powered by solar panels (no matter how much hand-waving is done) are rare indeed. And, unfortunately, decision-makers in this country are mostly of the leftard/greentard pursuasion (e.g. PM Fuddle-Duddle2, McSquinty, Wynne-bag etc etc etc…
The average Joe knows there is no silver bullet to get us off fossil fuels in the foreseeable future . PERIOD. Renewables need to be backed up by fossil (grid stability) and nuclear (base load). The Germans still rely on coal and French nuclear. So who is the author sniveling to? Lefty flakes who can’t be converted?

Big Oil has a lot of detractors for reasons other than CO2 emissions, e.g. cost of wars and military spending to keep the oil flowing and protect a reserve currency based on oil trade. If those costs were figure in, Alberta oil compares real cheap with Saudi.
