After the death of Energy East, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) decided to file access to information requests with the federal government asking whether foreign oil imported to Canada was subject to the new upstream/downstream scrutiny.
The answer, revealed Wednesday, is outrageous.
Imported foreign oil is not subject to the same Liberal environmental regulations as Western Canadian oil.
Oil imported from Saudi Arabia, the U.S., Iraq or any other country is not subject to upstream/downstream regs.
We here in Alta/Sask already knew that.

Instead of forming a Federation in Canada at that time and creating a new Constitution amongst equal partners. The Provinces became Colonies of Ottawa under the old BNA ACT which was Britain’s rules to govern the Colony of Canada. The only way that Alberta will ever become equal within Canada is if Albertan’s by a simple majority of 50% plus1 vote for a UDI or Unilateral Declaration of Independence. Then they will have a hammer to negotiate an equal deal inside Canada or be well placed to leave. Alberta and the west are like a huge Woman’s Shelter except the abuser has full access to the shelter. Start with the shutdown of TransMountain to BC. We make our money from it, so be prepared to suffer economically while you burn your bridge, before you have an “out”. It’s old, it needs replacement. So, we shut it down periodically for “safety concerns”, leaving the owners the Federal Government with no oil to ship. The Feds might own the pipe, but if there isn’t anything to ship, they don’t make any money. Build a pipeline to Valdez, or Eagle Spirit, outlined below.
TM is the only pipeline into the Seattle area. Vancouver could not fly an aircraft anywhere without the jet fuel supplied by Seattle area refiners. Supplied for a good part by Canadian crude via TransMountain. The rest of their crude comes from Alaska. Kill two birds with one stone, Washington State and BC. They’re best of buds on anti oil crap (wink, wink), except that they need a lot of it to run things, like drive and fly. The US military, is a big player also in their neck of the woods.
Our “out” is to do a deal with the natives angling to run pipe to the coast…Eagle Spirit Pipeline. Hey, it’s not a bad idea to partner with these guys, they want the same as we do. If it puts the boots to Horgan’s NDP, fine. He gets to fight an unpopular indian war on his own turf on a pipeline that doesn’t even come close to Vancouver like TM does. The indians can block Hwy 1 and 16, pretty much shutting BC down, push comes to shove on pipelines. Railways, too.
On another angle, unless John Horgan can invent an efficient electric truck, that runs well outside the Lower Mainland BC in winter, without having to re-charge at the top of Coquilhalla Pass, he’ll be importing and exporting with diesel burning trucks, despite his desire to be “carbon free” and his economy will need fossil fuels for some time past his term in office at a minimum.
The other alternative, which I have posted here numerous times in the past is to run pipe to Valdez Alaska. It’s even closer than running it to Kitimat from McMurray, or Rupert. The trip to Asia, which TM oil doesn’t do (TM oil goes to the USA only, because of tanker size limits into Vancouver harbor) is shorter than even crude from US ports on the west coast. A lot shorter, like several days shorter. I’ve documented it in the past. Tanker rates aren’t cheap, so saving on time at sea is a good part of shipping contracts.
The other issue is that Canadian crude isn’t just McMurray crude. We do produce plenty of lighter grades that go down pipes and they are used for different purposes. McMurray oil is used to make diesel, the stuff that runs industry and trucks. The same stuff that comes out of Venezuela and ships up environmentally free to eastern Canadian refineries. That’s probably why the US is getting involved in Venezuela. It’s shorter than McMurray even for our discounted crude and it’s the same damned stuff produced in McMurray FFS!
Notley deciding to build a refinery (to play to her Alberta Federation of Labor) is cost prohibitive, and frankly an unneeded addition to refining capacity out here. We supply everything from Winnipeg to Vancouver with existing refining capacity, as it is, right out of Edmonton. The rest comes from Texas pdq. Another “Come by Chance” boondoggle IMO, just like all those rail cars we’re gonna buy, with money we don’t have.
I’d urge a bit more patience on issues that concern us out here. The place isn’t gonna die before the Alberta election and if Kenny get’s enough letters instructing him on your wishes he can’t ignore them. WRITE the bastard on paper. As for the Squish at the Federal Level, forget it. He and his Party are status quo (read milk cartel). Vote Max. T2 get’s back in (if he isn’t farmed out b/4 Oct), the LPOC wears the breakup. Even discounting the accuracy of most polls, this is disappointing news. That so many Canadians are so limited in their ability to assess leadership qualities, basic intelligence and emotional maturity, is troubling. To where do us seniors, or indeed any grown up, relocate?

And—Mr Kenney should concurrently take the preliminary steps of exploring the possibility of Alberta becoming the 51st state in the USA. With Pres Trump sitting in office it would add yet another layer of liberal heads exploding all over the place. Here’s the caveat…If Pres Trump offers Alberta a good deal (his first offer is usually his best)…take it. Don’t use the offer as a means of getting a better deal from Ottawa–because it NEVER works. And then sock it to BC and charge them 98% tariffs on the use of all the roads, rail roads, pipelines and other infrastructure in order to ship their stuff east to the ROC.
I really do not think there’s a remote chance the West will separate or of Kenney advocating for it. What we need is Kenney in Alberta with a Conservative government in Ottawa. IMO that’s the best we could have for getting things rolling and the pipeline built.

Here’s a plan for action: Knock off a few conservatives in a few ridings by voting PPC, and the so-called opposition might start recognizing the cost of ignoring the concerns of the PPC supporting citizens and incorporate their wishes to the party platform. This is the natural tendency of any political party facing competition from parties close to themselves in outlook and ideology.
But they first must prove they are true competitors by hurting the CPC at the ballot box.

Voting for PPC is a great plan to put the crooks back in power, exactly what they are counting on. Any conservative voting for any party other than Conservative at this time cannot complain about corruption or carbon tax or anything else they decide to do. It’s a great plan for bringing to power a government worthy of free people. Third parties paradoxically improve the chance for ideologically similar parties to gain power by hurting them at the ballot box, because the natural reaction is to change the party platform to bring the third party into the larger party.
The CPC as it is now is merely heading toward the cliff at a lower rate of speed than the Libs. The end result will be the same, and bring the end of confederation, to boot. A reformed CPC could easily turn the country around, in a short amount of time. Why prolong the agony? Vote PPC.
