Waiting for the “Racism” Excuse to be used – 3 . . 2 . . 1

Living in America for the past 5 years, I’ve been a keen observer of how my fellow Canadians down here describe things back home. In almost all cases, any explanation will be in relation to America and Americans. Some examples include: “Canadians have a good leader, not Trump.” “Canadians aren’t so dumb.” And at a slightly deeper level, I’m convinced there’s an underlying moral superiority attitude, which definitely includes the topics of law & order and corruption.

With that background in mind, a most interesting story is emerging out of Ryerson University. Allegedly the heads of the Students’ Union, elected in May 2018, have been on quite the spending spree with the university’s credit cards:

The heads of the Ryerson Students’ Union have been given one week to explain approximately $250,000 in credit card spending, which critics say includes numerous questionable expenditures over an eight-month period.

The credit card statement, which is addressed to student union president Ram Ganesh, includes purchases at LCBO locations, a shisha lounge and a credit risk company in Stratford, Ont.

The expenditures allegedly date back to May 2018, when Ganesh began his term as president.

Ganesh and vice president Savreen Gosal took over the student union’s credit card and began using it themselves, according to reporting by The Eyeopener.

Three immediate questions come to mind:
1. When will the police be called in to file criminal charges?
2. How long will it take before Ram Ganesh and Savreen Gosal cry that this is all a racist plot and they’re the victims of white privilege?
3. Given this callous disregard for spending other people’s money, how long before they become federal Liberal Party candidates?

not the first such incident at a toronto university…

“An outspoken member of Black Lives Matter Toronto is being sued after
leaving her job with UofT’s student union with a $277,508 severance deal
with a $277,508 severance deal that included 1,975 hours of overtime.”

“The union wants former executive director Sandra “Sandy” Hudson and
      her co-defendants
      — who allegedly approved the package — to jointly
pay it back, along with another $200,000 in damages for breach of
      fiduciary duty.”

  1. The reconciliation was to have been finished and presented yesterday (Feb 1). Any more info about this or is it all to be buried under “diversity”?

  2. I long questioned the usefulness of students unions. I had to pay for the one at my university alma mater when I was an undergrad and, as far as I’m concerned, it was a complete waste of money. To this day, I’m still not quite sure what I paid for.

Equally as useless were the grad student associations and, yes, I had to fork over money for those as well. While I was working on my first master’s degree, I represented my department at the GSA council meetings and, for the most part, those were largely concerned with how much free stuff it could get out of the university. That wasn’t surprising to me as most of those in attendance never had to work for a living. I, on the other hand, already had two years of actual professional experience, so I was well aware of the obligation that one had to pull one’s weight in society.

I quickly became persona non grata when I often was the only one who voted against the proposed freeloading.

      1. The only people who benefit from students unions are their executive members. Their involvement with those bodies gives them a background that will be useful to them when they finally decide to run for political office, including corruption.

An emergency meeting of the Rye High student union council was held on Friday. A forensic audit of the expenses has been ordered.

A motion to remove the Ryerson student union execs from office will be put forward at an meeting on Monday. Only one has resigned voluntarily so far.

The chief embezzler, Ram Ganesh, somehow found the money to retain a white lawyer to do all the talking for him. He has supposedly gone into hiding out of fear for his own safety. More probably Ram is making plans to be safely in India by the time a warrant is issued for his arrest.

  4. Excuse me, how do you rack up $250,000 in c.c. debt? Generally those types of cards are limited to $5-10,000 and you need to get authority as well?

  5. The corruption in this country exceeds many third world countries in terms of the greater amounts of money involved and the fact that the country is still wealthy enough not to notice or care.

  6. For your first question, police will be called in to file criminal charges right after Hillary Clinton is arrested for her crimes South of the Border. The same people are holding both “Legal” repercussions in abeyance.

  7. Just once, just once, I’d like to read something about my old alma mater that didn’t embarrass me. It has been many years since that happened, and many years since I’ve sent a cheque.

  8. But, but, but, … its their enriching culture.
They are the maharajas now, they can use the money as they please.
    Aren’t they enriching? Ee ..eee…
Be inclusive, isn’t that what the idiot in charge tells the proletariat? He know what Canadians want, he tells them over and over what they want.
They will even vote for him.
    Yeah.

    1. I have seen that unjustified insufferable arrogant Canadian smugness everywhere I have been in this world. It is our very worst trait. Ok. That and our stupid reflex love for the Liberal party.

    2. It’s downright embarrassing. Far, far worse than any “ugly american” stereotype. The smug Canadian is pathetic.

  9. And our arbiters of what a free press is supposed to look like wouldn’t allow commenting on the story. But it the leader of a foreign country sends out a tweet the CBC allows its brood to comment.

  10. Many years ago Pamela Waloon a CTV bingo caller (before she went on to become a distinguished Senator) had a television show, ‘the smartest kanadian ‘ or something along those lines. It was based on a popular US program at the time.

Waloon who was widely known to… ‘have slept her way to the top’ was the show moderator. It was basically a trivia.

game. The winner got a 6 pack of some diet beverage. (something Walooon coulda used herself).

In any event at one point in the program Waloon declares that ,”Canadians are smarter than Americans.” Whatever possessed her to think that and then blurt ot out?

It must have resonated with the librano crowd because once Waloon’s ahem..’charms’ were no longer eagerly sought and she fell destitute johnnie potine appointed her ambassador to NYC. He did the same for Dim Cambell.

Maybe he made the ’rounds’ in the evening after question period? The dawg….

      1. Killer: you think you figured out who I was referring to? Musta had the spelling right – right? Maybe you’d care to correct it?

As to the ‘ rumors ‘ you refer to I’m not the first guy who ‘reported’ on this. The national press beat me to it by decades.

  11. Canada has become a 3rd world shithole when it comes to corruption and welfare fraud. The only thing keeping us from achieving full-fledged shithole status are the last few of us stupid enough to keep funding the corrupt parasites.

And don’t even get me started on smug Canadians acting like they’re some kind of royalty.

  12. What an awful little article. Pure racism.

It is well known that corruption and fraud are endemic to India where Ganesh or his parents came from. Corruption and fraud are cultural practices. And anyway Ganesh was named after Ganesha, the god of success, the many armed elephant god. Those arms were designed for a purpose you know.

How dare the writer question the Cultural Practices of Ganesh. He has a right to carry on just like he would in his earlier homeland.

We MUST respect all cultural practices because they are all great. We are Canadian we know this.

  13. Am I correct in assuming (hoping?) Ram Ganesh and Savreen Gosal are not accounting students?

Oh, grievance politics (aka the galloping gimmes) “studies,” aka liberalism to the minus-1, aka progressivism, aka neo-Marxism.

  14. Wow, good to see so many others sharing the observation of that unearned “Canadian” smugness. The “ugly American” is a pleasant fella comparatively.

  15. Diversity … definitely is their strength, so much so that the RSU had a VP specifically dedicated to look after it…

  16. stuDENT unions.
    key word: UNION

here’s a weeee anecdote about the mentality of st union types.
I was photo editor for a univesity late 80s whilst also finishing my BSc.
assigned to get mug shots of all the candidates. I set up the lites and stool @ my place and give them my address.
one of them refOOOOOsed to show up, claiming we ‘already had’ the necessary pic. which I had *already* looked for and didnt find.

then he bytched when we published the names, pics and comments of the candidates sans his mug.
