The True Heart of CUPE’s Leadership

You may have heard about the widespread oppression of the Venezuelan people the last few years. If not, watch this.

One would logically assume that CUPE members have access to such information. It’s thus quite puzzling to understand how the CUPE leadership vehemently supports the dictator of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro:

“The Canadian government was one of the first governments in the world to declare support for Juan Guaidó. In doing so, they have chosen to side with a self-declared leader over President Nicolas Maduro, who was duly elected by the people of Venezuela,” the Canadian Union of Public Employees said in a recent statement. “They have also chosen to side with Donald Trump and U.S. foreign policy.”

It’s most fascinating to see how CUPE members are willing to so callously let poor Venezuelans suffer, and perhaps die, on the bonfire of a failed socialist experiment. Didn’t being on the Left once mean that you actually CARED about people?

  1. Fortunately, our Minister of Defnce, Harjit Sajjan, says it is too early to consider a military option in Venezuela.

Apparently Maduro has just breathed a massive sigh of relief at finding out Little Canader will NOT attack Venezuela!

Them spick bastards wouldn’t last two days if our boys that attacked Vimy Ridge went after Maduro!

Unfortunately, that was THEN, and we live in the here and now. Could we realistically field a brigade ,even a company, a squadron of Fighters, and support troops? Or as always, will any military option be left to the Awful Fascistic USA?

And we can sit back and criticize their every move and then call them warmongers.

Or we can let them starve, which is the New “Canadian Way”? I’d rather take in a few thousand refugees from Venezuela that Syria or Somalia, but I guess our government doesn’t have the same view.

    1. “Unfortunately, that was THEN, and we live in the here and now. ”

To an extent it is true. Still, if the men responsible for Operation Medusa were to be unleashed I would not want to stand in their way.

    2. “Unfortunately, that was THEN, and we live in the here and now. ”

True, and the difference is not in the quality of our soldiers. They are among the best in the world in tactics and fighting ability.

The failure is with government, who disparage them at every opportunity and won’t fund necessary equipment. They have to make do with obsolete and/or worn out ships, subs, planes, helicopters and tanks.

    3. “Unfortunately, that was THEN, and we live in the here and now.”… Yeah, the fighting forces of Canada were scary fierce thats for sure, God help anyone who came up against them… Too bad the Liberal Party executed Canada… I’m sure the world shakes in fear at the mere thought of the pantless, sis gendered, french talking Trudopian Brigade… they’re secret weapon is blathering incoherent nonsense until the enemy commits suicide… its called Turdholing the enemy 🙂

  2. Guaido is also a socialist. Don’t expect much to change. Just one dickhead replacing another.

    1. @So What:
But he is an engineer, surely he can’t be another rabid moron hard left socialist. Surely he is close to the centre.

  3. Sorry, I went raving off topic there. I will say, however, that the people I worked with in the government employees Union for 11 years, were self centered communists who loved to spout the the rhetoric and Marxists slogans but couldn’t give a damn about anyone else.
At one point in the early 1980’s, we were taking a strike vote at a Union meeting, but at the same time the Province had been hit with a devastating recession. In the city I lived in, the forest industry had just gone the same way the oil industry has now, and unemployment was over 30%.
I stood up and voiced the opinion we should NOT be talking about a strike when so many of our fellow citizens were out of work.

I was met by shouts of “who cares”! We took the vote,it was about 80% in favor of strike. I refused to go on strike and continued to administer the forestry contracts I was in charge of at my own expense. I became a pariah in the Union, and management thought I was insane, wouldn’t even talk to me. The only people who appreciated my stance were the contractors whose projects I administered.
About 18 months later, when we had layoffs, I was offered positions in some remote stations, but by then I was so disgusted by the attitude of government employees and the drones who are supposedly managers, I left and never returned.

CUPE are fatcats, wouldn’t give a shit if every child in Venezuela starved to death as long as the branch of the comintern remained intact.

    1. This is the problem I have Don. For years we are asked to care about the starving Venezuelans who are eating zoo animals to stay alive. The minute we take action we are told to leave the country alone. I say let’s wait until all the zoo animals have been eaten. Then let’s wait another 10 years. By then the right kind of socialism will surely be in place.

      1. We’re supposed to just TRANSFER our wealth to Venezuela … and all the basket case, dysfunctional, Central American countries … but NEVER help the people of those countries to be FREE. Never help their economies become vibrant, thriving, Free Capitalist economies. That’s what ALL the Demoncraps have been saying. Just send all of America’s wealth to Nicaragua and Guatemala …. and no more caravans will come. Ha! What do leftists use for brains?

    2. Well said, and exactly. The left has never cared about the people, only implementing their evil ideology.

  4. Wrong.

Being on the left has always meant you only cared about yourself. Being on the left, means you are evil. Always has, always will.

I am beginning to doubt that socialists were ever even human. You become a socialist, your soul just seems to be gone forever.

    1. Not necessarily. I believe it was George Bernard Shaw who said, “If you are not a socialist when you’re 20, you don’t have a heart. If you’re still a socialist when you’re 40, you don’t have a brain”.

I was a socialist at 20 Over the next 20 years as I learned about history, human nature and economics, I morphed into a conservative capitalist. There’s still hope for Venezuela, but not necessarily for CUPE.

      1. Gotta agree.
        One union membership, never again.
Have a very hard time with the CUPE position vis a vis Venezuela.
        REALTY BITES.
Unless you are a hard-core socialist; in which case ….all kinds of excuses !!!

        1. While I was teaching at a certain post-secondary institution, we had a staff association, which acted like a union in dealings with the administration.

How effective it was in representing or even defending the staff depended on who was in charge. We had presidents who didn’t hesitate to appease the administration, complying with whatever they were handed. We had one president who thought nothing of sacrificing a staff member if it meant that the administration came up with some goodies in the next contract negotiations.

Only once, while I was there, did we have a president who was willing to fight for an individual member’s interests and rights. Unfortunately, internal staff association politics resulted in her leaving the position.

After seeing those shenanigans, my faith in unions or comparable bodies was completely demolished.

    2. Socialism means killing lots of people, just ask the victims of Lenin, Stalin, Mao. Oops they are dead.

  5. The left is not happy that Trump temporarily supports their hand-picked community organizer in Benezuela. According to a in house Is lamb O File from the mop and pail : https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-how-canada-almost-saved-venezuela-until-washington-crashed-the-party/?utm_medium=Referrer:+Social+Network+/+Media&utm_campaign=Shared+Web+Article+Links .

Trump got in the way of Trudeau’s master plan to save communism in Benezuela. Ha!!

Trump will require Mr. Guaido to hold real elections soon after he gains power which will give an opportunity to non-communists gaining control. Not what Georgie of Sorrows wanted.

    1. …and once done can kiss mine as well…for that matter ANY of the Public Trough Feeding UNIONS.

DE-CERTIFY them all…for they truly are the ROOT of ALL the Leftist Communist EVIL on this planet.

  6. Canada has joined the legions of hoarders, wreckers, saboteurs, profiteers, Trotskyites, Kulaks, counterrevolutionary elements and Jews who are responsible for the economic crisis in Venezuela. Sad.

    1. @MyHover:
You were doing ok there until you lost me at ‘Jews’.
Crawl back into your outhouse hole.

      1. That is the thing about Jews. They can be evil, or stupid, or smart, or good; just like anyone else.

I often wonder how many Jews in Germany voted for Hitler. Just like I wonder how many of the children and grandchildren of the Holocaust survivors vote for socialists today…

I wonder how many children and grandchildren of the survivors of the Holodomor vote for socialists today…

How many children and grandchildren of people who survived the sharks to get out of Cuba, voted for occassional cortex…

Just cause your parents or your brother chose sanity, doesn’t mean you will. And vice versa.

No race or country appears to own a sanity gene. Just because you start free doesn’t mean you stay that way.

        1. Exactly correct Kevin. Yet, you chastise me for “virtue signaling” my exact same attitude … about blacks. Curious?

  7. The fact these disgusting commie sycophants wield any influence is a black mark on Canada society. Public “service” unions are symptomatic of the liberal disease that will destroy western civilization.

You know they would have been Stalinist/Mao/Pot apologists as well.

  8. I assume that the “public employees” assume they would be the overlords in a communist dictatorship. It’s always the people who assume they will be the overlords, or the people who will be getting free stuff who support communism. No one who supports communism makes the assumption that their property will be redistributed for the greater good.

    1. Reminds me of a comment by P. J. O’Rourke. He said that as a young lefty in University, he and his buddies were “one with the working people”. But they never intended to ever be “one OF the working people”.

  9. 8Leftists are awful human beings. Period. For them the political narrative trumps everything including basic humanity, decency and morality. If Maduro were a rightwing dictator, they’d be praising Guaido like he was the second coming. There’s no hypocrite like a leftist. CUPE can kiss my a$$. They deserve to be tarred and feathered.

  10. If there was video of Maduro and his cronies and every member of CUPE getting hanged I’d buy a case of beer, sit back and enjoy.

  11. This whining is coming from the same entitled far leftists who scream that Hillary is the real president. They also claim that 39.47% of the popular vote was a mandate for Trudeau in 2015, but 39.62% for Harper in 2011 was not. To them, Maduro’s election rigging is a good thing because they truly believe that authoritarian socialism is the future… if only it could be implemented with proper vigour. Venezuelan & Cuban socialism is a good start in their eyes. CUPE members of course would be the “benign” administrative body that would necessarily dictate and enforce acceptable prole behaviour here in Canada. Many CUPE members already believe that their government jobs are sacrosanct and untouchable, so it’s not much of a stretch for them to believe in leftist authoritarianism.

Classism is real, but it’s not just the (leftist) elites versus us proles. It also includes those elites’ sycophantic CUPE allies in the bureaucracy who already believe that they are part of the entitled overlord class.

  12. *CUPE true believers should be on the next plane for Venezuela.
There to mount the ramparts. To defend the Marxist economic policies that bankrupted an oil rich nation.

Mind you, that also describes the Trudeau Liberal economic policies for oil rich Western Canada, eerily so !

*(Best to pack toilet paper, beef jerky and a dog or two for when the jerky runs out.)

  13. CUPE are enemies of everything that is good and decent and ought to be treated as such.

  14. And in response to letting poor Venezuelans suffer… They voted for it. They deserve to enjoy it. They deserve to get it good and hard.

Who are you to white knight, to ride in to protect Venezuelans from the consequences of their own bad decisions?

    1. It’s why I stopped giving to food banks, and other charities; they have all been compromised in the long march through the institutions.

The pessimistic view, is that the entire world is the fruit of the poisoned tree. Every organization, from the Salvation Army, to the coaches of your high school teams.

… yet Bono STILL hasn’t learned the lesson about sending money, food, medical supplies, and machinery to Africa. STILL hasn’t learned that FREE governments, and Free Markets are the ONLY thing that lift basketcase countries and their people out of poverty. Just sending $$$ is as counterproductive as “Aid to Dependent Families” which serves only to encourage poor 14yo black girls to drop babies in exchange for money, housing, EBT card, CHIP, etc. etc. etc.

  15. Oh come off it. Who was the last leftist you met who cared about anyone but himself?

Leftism is the faith of people who think they have a right to get what they think they want immediately and all the time—a belief that the rest of us had given up by the time we entered kindergarten. To leftists, other people are nothing but tools and toys to be discarded when no longer useful or amusing. In a word, they are sociopaths.

Like all sociopaths, who are notoriously the despair of psychiatrists, leftists are incurable. The only place for them in a civilized society is in an institute for the criminally insane.

    1. Equally as dreadful are those who liken socialism to a divine commandment, as if that ideology was established or otherwise blessed by Christ.

Then again, there are lots of passages in Scripture that support slavery. Go figure.

      1. What can I say? Some people deserve to be slaves.

I look forward to the day when leftists find themselves doing the backbreaking manual labour they once swore white people wouldn’t do, for the privilege of not being starved, beaten or shot if they refuse to do an honest day’s work.

  16. “Didn’t being on the Left once mean that you actually CARED about people?”

Tens of millions of ordinary Russian and Chinese people would have an answer to this question. But they were silenced.

  17. I think some here are misreading Robert’s last sentence.

NEO, everything on the left is corrupt.

  18. CUPE shouldn’t even exist. Public servants enjoy virtual immunity from markets, competition and economic cycles that private sector workers can’t escape. Unions are essentially racketeers shaking down employers and their members, eventually destroying most of the jobs of their private sector members. Public sector unions are inherently in conflict as they seek to control both sides of the negotiating table by directly engaging in politics. Supporting the socialist / communist regime in Venezuela is a statement of power and prestige these looters and thugs have been allowed to accumulate from decades of shake-down of the Canadian taxpayer.

  19. “Didn’t being on the Left once mean that you actually CARED about people?”

    Never, that’s when.
